Strike from the Sky Brothers! With the Assault Marines Squad
August 11, 2010 by johnlyons
John takes a look at the Assault Marine squad for Warhammer 40k. This kit is nicely laid out and the parts are easy to assemble without taking ages to do. The only downside is that the box only contains 5 marines. Anyway guys take a look at see what you think.

need so many of these dudes. shame there are only five in the box and they are so expensive :S
As a Blood Angels player, I love Assault Marines. I only have 5 at the moment but in every game I have played other than 1 or 2, at least the Sergeant has survived through the whole game. They are my lucky charm unit and they are great for capturing objectives on the opponents side of the field with the Descent of Angels special rule and the 12″ move they have. They always serve me well in games and I love having them in my army.
I wish Skaven was in the 40k then I would prob start playing 40K. But the reason I stoped playing 40k is it so freaking expensive and it is hard to be both a gamer/game collector and play 40K but yeah I played Marine allot when I played, but I wish Skaven would make it in.
but yeah does Assault Squad looks nice but man I looked up the Swedish price for it and man 40bucks for 5 units ><
Skaven are the most interesting race in the Warhammer universe, I love Fantasy and the Children of the Horned Rat are one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite army. 40k seems to have a few more modeling options and more in the way of plastics kits however the style of game is better in Fantasy in my opinion. As far as those assault marines are concerned I have to say that they are superb models, lots of optional modeling bits which I think is great. As far as price goes I have to say that a thread I… Read more »
aah yes Children of the Horned Rat is great. But yeah I would start 40k if the make skaven for it hehe. but yeah I also love WW2 so thats why I plan to get in to flames or war cuz it is cheaper than GW. But I still collect some Skaven models I have a few skaven rat assassins and rat oger´s.
but yes music cost allot more than collecting GW even sport is I was playing allot of hockey before I broke my own back and now I can never play anymore.
I looooove hockey, so your story saddens me man! I’m a huge WW2 nerd, ever want to chat about it just let me know!
Thanks man ^^ yes ww2 is rely interesting.
Can you dual-weild plasma weapons, and would that just be a waste of time?
You can on the sergeant, but the you can only ever fire one pistol and the other is an expensive way to get an extra attack in close combat.
‘Can you dual-weild plasma weapons, and would that just be a waste of time?’
Yes you can, but only plasma pistols i think. It would be a waste of time, because you have to be a monstrous creature to fire them both. I think bikes are an exeption to this, but i am not sure.
only attack bikes, so no then.
No u cant, but it would be really cool if you could 🙂
The regular torsos aren’t just something you don’t need to concern yourself with, you can drop the jump packs for a free(in points, you still need to give the goon on the till money for the model 😉 ) rhino or drop pod, now that might not sound great given that the drop pod really only lets them deep strike a bit safer than they normally could and give a storm bolter and the rhino stops them assaulting 18″(move 12″ assault 6″) a turn, but you can use it for drive-bys or to fit the theme of your army (E.G.… Read more »
the advantage for this could be that in theory you could use regualr marines with the correct weapons upgrades for assault marines, which could save you money
When I still played 40k I had a small marine army made of bits and pieces I’d picked up for free off people over the years…the only part I really went out of my way to buy was a 10 man assault squad with 2 flamers to back up a jumppack chaplain. To be honest I’m really not a massive fan of basic marines, they’ve always struck me as a bit boring. When it comes to the specialists such as assult marines though they are a lot more interesting in game play, background and the miniatures themselves. Even just small… Read more »
Hey John, How do you like to or how would you setup vanguard vets? Weapons and such?
Look boss! Beakie stormboys!
As a new Blood Angels player, I remember opening my first box of assault marines looking at the sprues and getting ANGRY that there were no flamer or meltagun! D:<
WTB Blood angels assault marine kit…. oh wait… Death Company!
Am i correct in thinking this is the only kit that comes with the studded shoulder pad?
with regards to the death company kit i think its a pity GW sculpted so many of the DC crosses onto the DC Hands, legs jump packs, would of been great as a full BA accesory kit. which ive still used mine for just being selective on the legs etc. pads and heads are awsome.
no the combat squads have a studded shoulder pad aswell and i think the tactical squad has two.
‘Am i correct in thinking this is the only kit that comes with the studded shoulder pad?’
That sprue is actually the Tactical Marine sprue, so you get 2 studded shoulderpads in a Tactical Marine box as well.
5 man squads are good in rhinos especially if you are a blood angel player
I was thinking about getting some of these.
They look neat but very damn expensive.
I like these guys very much and can’t wait to get mine assault guys
And I would like to see what’s in the box of the Space Marine Commander if that possible BOW 🙂
only complaint about set is that there is no thunder hammer
I make mine into space wolves by putting on the space wolf chain sword, wolf tails and space wolf heads.
What options you will advise for this squad? Need plasma pistols or will be enough power fist for sergeant?
Assault Squads in a Black Templars army are pure gold!
