So guy’s I’ve pulled out an old favorite the Space Marine Command Squad, and im going to show you just what you get in the kit and what you could do with it.

I got this kit from my dad when i was like 10-12 years old. (soon to be 19)
The marines are now converted chaos tho but i still have some bits leftover from this kit that i usually see in my bitzbox 🙂
This brought forward memories! Thanks BoW!
ah but was it your first warhammer 40k kit?
and do you still have it? 🙂
BoW Justin
I think it was like my 4-5th kit but it was my first and only Space Marines kit tho 😀
lol what was your first?
BoW Justin
A blister containing 3 Kasrkins for the guard 🙂
And yours?
I think i had an older kit tho, cause i cant remember the kneeling legs…
I think that nunchaku is a pair parchment rolls. Chaplains have the same things.
They’re the Honour Rolls, where the deeds of the battle brothers are kept. They’re important on Librarians and Chaplains for obvious reasons. At least, that’s how I justify them.
You see this “mystery” part in quite a number of plastic sets. I’m guessing its either a container keeping scrolls, or some type of censor.
Yeah the nun chucks are scrolls, another small thing, the bit on an apothecary’s arm is a Reductor, the narthecium is the backpack and the vails of drugs and balms on his belt.
I don’t think you can actually make 6 guys from the kit since you only get 5 rear torsos, but the assault marines will have 5 spare complete torsos, so ad the spare legs and arms from a comand squad and two tactical squads and you get a free combat squad.
The reason GW cast so many torsos is they’ve standardised the marine bodies to reduce the overall number of sprues that they need to cast that body sprue is the same (only) sprue you get in a combat squad box, two of ’em and a special weapon sprue in a tactical and one and the guns for devastators, only the assault marines have a different sprue to accommodate their pistols and chainswords.
Two wee rules corrections, Combat sheild is only a 6+ invulnerable save, but the champion gets it free if you’re giving anyone power weapons in the squad you might as well take him though it precludes him having a plasma pistol if you’re going that route, and you can’t give them all plasma or meltas because the apothecary can’t take any upgrades at all and you have to take him.
I think you don’t see as many of these in games because the blood angles version made the apothecary seem a bit weaker since the BA version gives any unit with a single model within 6″ Feel no pain and furious charge for the same points (though their champion has to pay for his shield), and I think people are more included to take a chapter master over a captain for the orbital bombardment, and you need a captain to get access to a command squad, chapter masters get the much less flexible honour guard that comes with power weapons pistols and artificer armour standard all the while being allowed to keep their bolters.
Thanks for the vid!
I was looking to get a couple of boxes of these guys soon for my Blood Angels as I want to have a 4000 point sanguinary guard army and with 4 flamers in each Honour Guard squad I can provide some much needed horde killing.
theres only one flamer in each box man but if you have some spare ones that should work fine
BoW Justin
Yeah, I’ve got some spares incoming from Ebay. I think the classic combo for them is lightning claw and storm shield, but I think in an army of elites like the sanguinary guard, I need units that can just spam damage in case I fight a horde.
They don’t even make my first kit anymore. It was the small boxed set for Tyranids that came with 8 termagants and 8 hormagaunts. They r somewhere in my massive nid army now.
My first kit was a space marine tactical squad. But now since a month ago, I have gotten bored of the space marines and now I fight for Tau’va.
Nice vid, my first kit was a space marine bike. Was in town with a mate who played 40k and he wanted to go into Games Workshop, i had a spare fiver so thought i’d pick something up and the bike was what i went with. can you guess when that was that it only cost 5 quid?!
