Unboxing: Relic Knights – Black Dragons & Sophia Drake
May 10, 2016 by dignity
Hey guys, this week we're taking a look through more of the Relic Knights from Ninja Division.
The Black Dragons are not something to be trifled with and from what we can see, could be quite easy for the beginner painters too.
Sophia Drake is a beautiful sculpt with even more armour with less armour... somehow. We don't quite get how that works but the miniature is fantastic!
What do you think of Sophia and the Black Dragons?

Can’t watch the video until later so apologies if this covers anything that was said. These were a fixture in the Black Diamond cadre that won the North West regional a few months back and which made the final of the Vapnartak tournament. Heavy firepower, back-to-back activations, and Sophia’s ability to ignore Recover make them one of the most dangerous combos in the game.
These are next on my “To Buy” list because, even though I haven’t actually played RK yet, I’ve picked up most of the Black Diamond minis. After all, who doesn’t like an evil PMC?
Ahh black diamond, my boys (and girls) right there. Really need to get myself some Black dragons soon, course still have to wait for my friend to actually get his models for the game. Also Jon, Black Diamond have mini tanks in their army, just sayin.
The ease of painting is a real attraction with Black Diamond, but I went Shattered Sword instead for my first faction, which aren’t too bad to paint either.
These are a definite combo to take for Black Diamond as they work so well together, especially due to Link.
While the core of Black Diamond are ‘bad guys’ – their Esper affinity is corruption after all, they’re not all bad. Sophia Drake for one seems relatively principled but is just too good at her job to be replaced by someone less ethical.
N.B. A held Esper can be used as 2 of any colour.
Unless it’s changing in 1.5
True enough.
This was the first faction i got for myself and those 2 units are the best, i love ’em! Sophia Drake is usually the first target of my friend lol
Still need to “paint” them though (and i’ll go the easy way on that 😉 )
I must admit I never really liked this stuff. I mean the game is ok. Had a friend who was helping promote the game here in the states back when were going to be in metal. He still has those versions. But when they switched to this part plastic part resin junk it all went down hill. You can even see it in the video at 4:47 when John is holding the gun the back is slightly bent. Having wanted to give the game an honest try I found this to be the case with many of the figs in… Read more »
I think there’s a recognition that the plastic material isn’t as good as it could have been, which is why all new miniatures since last summer have been in resin, where the quality is much better.
In terms of the bent pieces, they easily bend back into shape under hot water, so it’s not a
In some ways it seems strange to see unboxings of miniatures that have been around a while, but not enough people know enough about Relic Knights yet (or they’d all be playing it) so this is really great to see.
In the main I’ve had no issues with the plastics. The odd mini has been soft on detail but that’s been it. They don’t make for the highest quality minis and once Ninja Division took over the production from CMoN they made the decision to switch to resin as @shinygames says. The last few releases from Darkspace Calamity and all the subsequent releases have been in resin. It has some rough edges in its first iteration, but no worse than the… Read more »
