Quick Look: Decrypto

Decrypto is a game from 2018 which takes word deduction games that little further along the evolutionary track of the subgenre. Made by Canadian studio Le Scorpion Masqué the game has an engaging theme and some of the most innovative components I have come across. The design on the cover sets the scene well but the components functionally add to that code breaking atmosphere. The cards can only be deciphered when put inside the screens which is a really cool touch. The code cards look like minidisks on the back and have all the little details of a 60s/70s cold war aesthetic. But there are great points of parody around the box which are superb. If you really enjoyed codenames and want to move on to something different then Decrypto is a more involving word deduction game with each team trying to intercept the others code.
If I were to say the owl quacks at midnight, what would you say?

looks like some of the 80s spy toys from the magazines you get back then.
Great game and a lot of fun. Makes for a nice change of pace compared to Codenames where it can feel like all the weight is on your shoulders all the time. I like that it switches up and it’s been awesome coming up with ways to fool opponents whilst also get your friends to guess what you mean – very clever game.
OTT Decrypto Champions 2018!
sounds like the waste of a good pint, after another everything needs decoding.
Uh! this is a game for me, for sure! I would have missed it entirely if not for this review. Thank you
