A peak at the Dwarf Ironguard
July 30, 2010 by lloyd
In this one Johno cracks open the Ironguard box to have a look at the tasty metal command squad within. With a commander, Musician, Standard Bearer and champions we suppose this would be compatible with any well know fantasy wargaming system - not that you KoW fans are gonna care come October 😉
The more we see of these Dwarf models the more we like the art direction they have taken. Yes there is a certain comic book style about them, but they are also mean as hell - we think in a straight fight between GW Dwarfs and These Guys the GW ones look a little well GIRLY 😉
So an interesting thing to keep in mind, Ronnie Renton was the brain behind Apocalypse in GW and almost single handedly pushed the Apocalypse project through, so you can tell he's a fan of big models and big battles - I wonder how long before we start to see large war machines coming out of the Mantic studios? What would be on your wishlist?
Why not check out the new Kings of War groups and ask whatever questions you have:

Yeah I was looking for any kind of sneak peak at the Iron Guard all over the net today but a video on it will do I guess ;D
Is this one of the boxes they brought along just to open or do you get to keep them? If so, you should show us the glued together and painted version! 🙂
I think the perfect gift for John is a big box of bubble wrap -depending on the mood it could be a gift or a… distraction…
John where do you buy those cool T-shirts? Some sort of e-shop or sth?
I dont think thats an appropriate link to be posting on a website that is used by younger members of the community!
Yeah that was a bit much so it’s gone now.
Ah I didn’t know it was an adult site, I just wrote the url out randomly as a joke :S
I’ve been loving the Mantic Dwarves, can’t wait to get some at GenCon.
Jesus Christ, its an AT Gun! 😀
Great review and shirt John!
Hope to see a Painting (3 Colours Up) video of the Mantic range soon!
keep your eyes open for it 🙂
I think you are way too biased on plastic miniatures.
It is debatable how much easier to acceptable and easier to customise plastic miniatures are and how much the sacrifice of detail is worthy over metal miniatures.
I am on the metal camp of minis and would love to see metal miniatures presented for their good attributes and not as something that “its ok its not plastic, you will not need many of them so don’t worry”.
I dunno. I’m trying hard to like those dwarfs. I mean if I ever really played fantasy of any sorts I would go with the dwarfs hands down. But these guys seem a little bit too uniform. I’m talking about the helmets. If I ever bought those, I’d probably have to use a lot of GS to make their beards and helmets look better and stand out a little. Otherwise, they’re great. Especially the proportions (the knees! they got knees!) and details are good enough too. There’s just something in them that doesn’t work for me even though I appreciate… Read more »
I think their Dwarfs look hunchbacked, and those bucket-helmets really set me off.
On the other side, their heroes (or the GS versions I’ve seen) are the best after that necromancer thats in every mantic art that has the undead.
And I laughed out loud when John popped the bubble-wrap!
I am really liking Mantic, but myself and a friend have had stuff missing from our orders, and so far Mantic havent responded once, it has disalutioned us slightly.
Also the figures seem a little small for 28mm, there definetly skinny.
