Kings of War Zombies Unboxed
September 14, 2010 by warzan
So we have been having a look over the Kings of War Zombies for a few days now and we gotta say they are a really great addition to the Kings of War Undead range. We had high hopes for them after seeing the resin 3-ups and the plastics are great.
If you would like to contact Andy Wedmore (the painter)

First off although the sprue is quite small there does seem to be a lot of room for swapping components about and customising the minis to ensure you don't end up with that old 'sameiness' issue. We found the plastics go together very well, and even found really nice touches where the deltoid (shoulder muscles) on the separate arms blended really nicely into the model when glued.
The set will blend nicely with the ghoul sprue (which we cover a bit in the video) to give even more options. The only drawbacks we see is that some of the head options seem a little more Ghoul than Zombie but the inclusion of a head identical to David Ike made up for that and the gates to the base of the zombie legs is a little short meaning a craft knife would be a better option than your clippers.
All in all a good set and you shouldn't suffer too much fatigue putting 60 of these together 😉
If you like these then maybe the Kings of War Undead is the army for you check out the Undead section on our site for more - click here.

Holy Crap, Warren? What are you doing here?

‘Nuff said.
lol nice.
Anyway… I’d prefer to use Desert Yellow (more earthy) for zombies, and necrotic flesh (more spooky) for ghouls. Just my taste, though.
Warren, were have you been?
Did john die ?
Zombie John is watching you
Another great video. But wher’e is John ? 🙂
Yeah, the zombie looks really fantastic. Base for the zombie diggin’ form the ground- just epic.
In Mhorgoth’s Revenge there are 15 of them, so there will be lot of fun…
Hooray! Warrens back! 😀
These guys will work perfectly for my nurgle lesser daemons in my csm army 😀
Nice work Warren. Zombies look great, looking forward to get my hands on a sprue (or 20 ;))
Thinking of either starting a KoW Undead force, a WHFB Vampire Counts force or going completely nuts and trying to create a Undead Imperial Guard force for 40K! 🙂
If you go by “Return of the Living Dead” and “Dead Alive” zombehs can still operate as freaking piles of organs.
The zombies looking good. The idea to make them compatible with the ghouls is cool, thanks to Mantic for that.
Nice to see you back, Warren!
Thanks for the mention guys… 😀
Andy 🙂
Good to see Warren, awesome stuff from mantic yet again 🙂
Warren is back and he is not a Zombie. 😀
Wb Warren good to see you
i like it!
I don’t remember watching a 3 Colors Up involving zombies… Or was that on Youtube in which case I probably missed it.
Hi @kingpiccolowned, it wasn’t a 3 Colours Up, it was a special program during Kings of War weekend. 🙂 You can see it here; http://www.beastsofwar.com/kings-of-war/john-hands-collectors-edition-mantic-zombie/
There’s no 3 Colours Up. A 3 collectors edition up was painted for a video but not filmed being painted:

Does anyone know a way to find a local retailer for KoW models or do they only cater online atm? Thanks for any replies. I’d love to get some but it would be much cheaper to find them around here then to ship across the ocean lol.
Hi ladasn. Try contacting Mantic directly for info on their stockists in the US. There are some, but your best bet is to speak with Mantic to find your nearest stockist. They are very friendly & helpful at Mantic and answer queries a damn site faster than GW!
Mmk, I’ll try and give that a shot, hopefully there are some in Canada atm! Appreciate the reply.
I have seen them here in Canada. The elven spearmen were selling for $17.50. Wich is a hell of a lot cheaper that GW’s $42.00.
Holy crap that scared me when I saw Warrens face instead of Johns.
Showing the minis assembled is an excellent addition to the unboxing video – nice minis as well 🙂
Warren? Did that cold, John had, turn into a necrotic disease turning him slowly into undead? Ah well, I guess that’s fine as long as John is coming back eventually.
And how are you Warren? Haven’t seen you in a while. Any bite marks? 😀
Me no like – too scawy! lol
Especially when painted up (‘orrible work there Andy, but in a good way!)
If You are poorly John, get well soon!

Just thought of another way to use the legs-spine parts. Maybe you could try and make it seem as though the zombie has been shot/cut/etc in half and is still crawling around by using a disconnected torso. I might have to do this when I get mine… lol
We tried that… but the body has a ball (of the ball & socket joint) to slot into the leg sections, while the spine piece also has a ball section. I was going to try to cut the body flat and file down the spine section to make a flat face, then glue them together. However, if you do that, the spine is a bit too long and you need to repose the arms a bit or the “crawling body” is too big for the Mantic base… far too much hassle! We only had a short period to complete the… Read more »
