John’s getting chaotic with the new Daemon Prince
August 6, 2010 by johnlyons
Well it's about time this baby came out in plastic. And what does John think? Well you'r going to have to watch to find out! This has been a very highly anticipated kit for a long time now ever since the first pictures were leaked on the internet and in White Dwarf so we let John loose to hear his opinions on it.

my mates been waiting for this for a long time… my pups not soo much 😛
Very nice. Kinda wish they had a head that looked a lot like belakor’s head.
Blood For The Blood God!
That is a seriously nice kit. I’m tempted to start a Chaos Daemons or DoC army just for that kit.
Oooh this makes me want to go back and redo my iron warriors army, along with the forge world pre-heresy armor
Good stuff! Though as was stated, the faces are kinda…..meh.
last things pointed out on the first sprue are remnants of a csm backback not fantasy arms…
also legs don’t fit 40k too well, seem kinda skinny and unarmored compared to the top heavy giant armed torso
I don’t like the heads either, but all that does is motivate me to try and consider some interesting conversion possibilities….
BLOODTHIRSTER ABLE MODEL FOR THE WIN?
As a model on it’s own i don’t think it’s all that amazing, but it has a lot of possible applications.
I think mine will find itself as part of a dragon ogre shaggoth that i have planned.
they cud included a nurgly type of demon prince as there is not replacment 4 the metal nurgle demon prince
Its a pretty nice model, but its missing some of the flavour you get in other kits in its size range I think, they’ve given you two swords and an axe all on right arms, seems like whoever laid out the sprue was just told to fit lots of options on rather than making sure the options were actually different. It would have been nice to have more options that tie in to one of the chaos gods, there’s an axe but its just a generic one rather than being khornate, there’s hands that could be casting spells, but really… Read more »
Yea that’s awesome . It is what i’m waited. That model are incredible. I can’t wait when John build that and painting ofcourse . Shall you ? I’m waiting for respond. 🙂
Nice model! I agree with Cazboab though, that they could have fit more/better options on the sprue. However the converting possibilities are many and varied. Hope to see a newer Nergal model in the near future!
Not a really a fan of the model as a whole but as ade73 said there is huge scope for kitbash/conversion work using many of the pieces from it and also for building a nice sized starting point for converting up a really nice unique daemon prince.
Haha i just love the fact we were meant to get this AGES ago but some goldfish in GW dropped the master cast and well need i say more? 😛
This is the model with this Daemon release that has the least “wow” effect on me. I am not overly crazy about it, and the biggest flaw about it is the heads and the next biggest flaw is the lack of God specific customization. Thankfully the kit gives you several options and I think I’ll end up buying one at some point or another but as it is now, Be’lakor (being as expensive) is a more pleasing models. Nevertheless this kit mixed with the Chaos Spawn kit will hopefully be able to create some great conversions and hopefully the Chaos… Read more »
Well, I’m probably going against the majority (again) by saying that this kit is…well, crap, for want of a better word. Some of the individual pieces are alright, but the overall pose and appearence is very lacking, and the faces (all of them) are goofy and stupid looking. There’s very little variety, and the whole thing just feels like a wasted opportunity. It does not even remotely compare to the far superior metal Daemon Prince for 40K, and Be’Lakor for Fantasy. Let’s also not forget how relatively useless Daemon Princes are in Fantasy right now (for both armies that can… Read more »
I don’t know if you’ll really be against the majority, the model itself has a couple of pretty good looking set-ups possible, but the actual kit is a bit of a let down- that seems to be something GW end up doing a bit more often than they used to now, for example the basilisk/chimera re-release, the Chimeras and hell-hounds end up looking fantastic, but the road wheels sprue gave you lots more options for modelling and converting and they really missed a trick by putting the hull bolter onto the chimera turret/accessory sprue, If it was or the hull… Read more »
cool kit, ONLY 2 things I would change, is have different options and more detailed heads, they look very human like with horns, I would rather see a demon head with bones protruding and stuff
also the swords and stuff would of been cooler if the arms were not attached so you can do more this them, like have him stabbing it in the ground or anything else
You missed the best part about the axe. It is flipping the bird to people
wow what a fantastic looking kit, ive never really liked chaos but i think im starting to feel the warp….
The “thin arms” on the first sprue are actually daemonic-ified versions of the “arms” on a Chaos Space Marine backpack.
You could get two DPs out of this with some work (on a back and legs), which is cool. Unfortunately, the legs seem bland to me, the poses are all the same and the wings are too angular.
Good job on the video, excepting the arms/backpack screw up 😉
i got mine yesterday and its built already, converted to look iron warriors worthy. its a great kit!
Looks great, and every day I feel more like collecting Daemons. BUT I really don’t like the heads. Might have to green stuff a deep cowl over one 😉
The conversion possibilites with this new plastic Daemon prince are endless, just look at those wings there huge, i could see those swapped out for the LOTR Balrog or plastic Nazgul wings giving this model some awesome extra height, the head looks as though it fits on a ball joint on the torso, i’m wondering if an Ogre head would fit on this or look to small, maybe even a Giants head, the swords & axe look massive which is brilliant, you cant beat a huge looking bestial weapon when it comes to chaos! another suggestion would be to swap… Read more »
Frankly, demon princes in 40k and fantasy are different enough that they should have taken the time to make two kits. This is one moment where they should have put in some extra time and design work… neither build really hits its stride.
I’d go with a Reaper Minis model, they have a ton of Demon Prince worthy models that are worth their weight in metal. This is a low-value kit except for the epic-scale weapons.
