Let’s take a look at IG Heavy Weapons Teams
January 20, 2011 by lloyd
Darrell likes his big guns and today has the Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons team to un-box. They seem to be a good unit for any Imperial Guard player and worth giving a shot.

These are ideal bits boxes for me. I get corpses, and lots of guns, and some bases to mess around with. Whats not to like? 😛
9:50 ”By all means … fist your imperial guard heavy weapon team if you get a chance”…”give them a good round of fisting”…That’s kinda gross
You dirty Cheese master
Hah! Darrel doing an unboxing! Great! why not?
nice build
and I loved the Expert Advice given during the unboxing/ reveiwing
Its even better when you get the Battleforce!
You get the BF and 3 more 60mm bases then you make say lascannons with what comes in the Squad then put them with the Infantry and Command squads. then you take the 6 men you took away and build say Rocket Launchers or mortars. or you can take the 6 men and make a special weapon squad with bitz!!
Actually Mortars are regular blast, not large. (page number 69 for reference).
not so sure about the crewman firing the missile launcher
think he’s going to be eating the back blast…
I agree, there is a shoulder mount on the base of the launcher, so that the Guardsman fires it like a normal modern rocket launcher.
Love these, Got 7 of em 😀
7 bases or 7 squads?
I used every heavy weapon in the kit to make my heavy weapon teams. They work well with the other guard kits.
I like Las-cannons since with the orders Front Rank Fire Second Rank Fire still applies to Las-cannons. Imagine a Veteran weapons team BS 4 firing 3 times at whatever you want dead. 🙂
even for the weapons teams? The rules seem to say lasgun… Please yes it is so, my upcoming guard army could do with some anti-ork-horde kit
core8ball, where do you find the rule that allows you to FRF, SRF lascannons? The IG Codex, page 36, clearly states that FRF, SRF applies to lasguns. It says, “…models firing lasguns…”. I am an IG player but trying to stretch FRF, SRF to lascannons is a bit too cheesy. If I am wrong, let me know and I will work a unit of lascannons into my army list.
I don’t know about Darrell. Take his “good round of fisting” comment plus his comment on an earlier video about “ramming a vehicle in the soft rear armor” plus the failure to recruit a sexy female assistant (also on earlier videos), we got Sam instead, and you could make an argument about him swinging from the Eldar side of the plate, if you know what I mean.
But hey, who are we to judge??
I was taught that trick when first learning how to play 40k during a GW academy class. Since las-cannons are just larger las-guns with external batteries the same rules should apply. The book even says “models firing lasguns fire three shots rather than just two” Which in my mind means anyother weapon can shoot twice with LAS-guns/cannons shooting three times. I might be wrong but I’ve played this tatic before and no one at the GW where I played has stopped me and said that’s a no-no. Lets see if the BoW guys think it legal or bad cheese?
I don’t think it works on any weapon with “las” in the name. Just lasguns and maybe hotshot lasguns. I find it hard to see how 3 weapons (that don’t look overly mobile) can fire in ranks… I could be wrong but thats the way I interpreted it.
according to the official FAQ Hotshot lasguns cannot be used with FRF, SRF. and from what i seen at a tourney a lascannon cannot be used with it either
i actually like these mortars look really good look great in bunkers
The only downside to mortars is practically everything gets its armour save against them, but you can counter that quite easily since a full platoon armed with them only cost 430 points and you can combine the 5 infantry squads so you have 5 mortars that fire together and can be given orders such as fire on my target. FOMT is at first glance maybe not so useful with that low AP- but a unit with 5+ armour in 4+ cover has to use the cover save as its the “best” save(page 24 of the rulebook “models with more than… Read more »
I liked this vid, odd joke here and there, good advice and got to see the models. Unboxings are a lot better seeing the kit made unpainted after I think.
