Unboxing: Warhammer 40k – Forgebane Battlebox
March 17, 2018 by johnlyons
It's time for us to crack open Forgebane, the new Battlebox from Games Workshop which sees Necrons clashing with Adeptus Mechanicus in Warhammer 40,000.
Inside the set you'll find new models for both sides with the Adeptus Mechanicus getting the Knight Armiger Warglaives and the Necrons finding themselves under the command of a new Cryptek leader.
The box also tells a new chapter in the story of Warhammer 40,000 and contains all of the rules you need to play these two sides on the tabletop.
Will you be picking this up?

Dammit! I really want it now! You know….for those too pissed to paint but able to build moments! I’m currently painting mythic battles stuff so I’m feeling the need to build!
You’re not fooling anyone Dammitprawn! I bet you’re procrastinating and drinking wine?
Dammit! You got me!
This is the first time I hav ever come across your posts but I like you.. 😀 Anyway who enages in serial self monologues is alright by me . 🙂
The Mini Knight just keeps on looking better the more of it I see. I just wish there were more weapon options in the box. And I bet Forge World would gladly provide those new weapon arms in the future.
This is a very nice box. I am not a 40k player but this has 2 armies in it that have some appeal for me. I am almost tempted, but the “Squat Grudge” prohibits me from buying this, but close GW .. oh so close.
I like that the knight has 4 different head options. Also that the weapons, armor plates and 2 heads are on a seperate sprue, making new variants easy to make for GW in the future.
Another nice video guys and have to say I am going to be bankrupt what with all the new stuff GW is bringing out.
It’s a great value box, but as an existing necron player it really isn’t worth it for me. Not convinced on wraiths even with the new profile. Lychguard I can never find the room for and all ready good for immortals and deathmarks don’t offer enough.
Gonna buy 3 boxes. Just need to load off the necrons…
You’d tempt me with the Necrons to be honest.
Very very nice box indeed. It’s tempting, but I need to be strong, have other things in my buy list going first… Damn thos knights look sweet.
diddy knight allies for the prussonians? 😉
Looks a really decent box, just never been interested in either army! Im still not :p
But was nice to see!
I’m out of 40K, but this box does look tempting. A good start for anyone who would like to try the game and is into his mechanical gribblies.
The mini-Knights are awesome and are a comforting option if you can’t afford the big Forgeworld models.
So tempted to buy this just for the Knights…
Kinda sad that the Necron “green rod of doom” is on it’s way out and the most accessible “non-painter” army is less so. It was always an army you could assemble and paint in a day, and now you gotta use TWO whole colours of paint at the bare minimum to make them look complete (cos you gotta paint the energy bits now. obv.).
Heck, if they cast the bodies in metallic grey, you wouldn’t even have needed to paint them at all. Who needs prepaints?
I just watched Justin´s and Sam´s blog from Prague, and this tournament stuff is quite a thing. Now I want to dive into WH 40k. So, a cute little box, I thought. But I´m not quite sure anymore whether to have a go at Dark Imperium or this Forgebane. There´s a full rulebook in Dark Imperium, but there are two factions in Forgebane that are special and kind of more unique. And still I haven´t found out when to get an index and when to get a codex or both are necessary. Would it be enough for a tournament just… Read more »
@jemmy the indices were stop gaps to use until an 8th edition codex was released, all 4 of the box game factions (Space Marines, Death Guard, Ad Mech & Necrons) have a codex out now, or about to have one released in a week or 2. Given how competative a 40k tournament is, you would need full rules and then some (not unheard of for players to have every codex to get the inside line on any potential opposition), i would suggest getting to your closest GW store and having a few intro games (they always have a table setup… Read more »
Thank you, this is useful!
the new mini knights do look good.
If I wasn’t getting Star wars Legion this would be my jump in point for the new WH40k.
I wonder if they’re going to do more of these basic 2 player starter kits, ’cause it looks really good.
