Flames of War: Polish Reconnaissance Tank Platoon
July 21, 2011 by darrell
Darrell has a look at some TKS tankette's from the Flames of War range and here's some photos I found, to let you guys see just how tiny these little tanks were.
I really think these are one of the cutest vehicles I've seen from ww2, but if you guys had to pick one what would be your vehicle of choice?
Good to see you doing a load of non GW stuff Mr Cheese- ww2 is full of great minis. For silly tanks that look fab you got to love KV2, Char 1bis, Matilda II, Maus, Japanese and italian mini tankettes. KV2- huge turret on kv1 chassis Char 1 bis- little gun and small cupola Matilda- massive armour for time, ting gun vs Tiger Maus- why??? others- oh dear, let me shot you with my pistol re polish they got stuffed by their allies, shamless really. We sat in France doing nothing whilst they got overrun. Then at the end of… Read more »
dont forget they also got some revenge against the luftwaffe fighting for the raf and what we done to them at the end of the war was really the usa fault not churchills
yes they did a rather good job flying for the RAF
Did you want to use possible facts vs a rant?? 😉
WW2 is a real blot in history- shocking behaviour, millions of deaths of innocents
but it makes for some great wargaming
ps
will Mr Cheese be trying ASL?? i like these counters, so i do. But cant they be plastic and 4 times bigger?
Not only did they fly for the RAF, lots of them Escaped to France and then to UK and fought later on.
Especially interesting is their role in th Falaise Pocket during Normandy Breakout. Where they held Hill 262 also known as The Mace.
those tanks remind me of the 1s in newcastle and portrush where you use to put in 10p for a ride
ill never play flames of war and probably never buy one of these models but i love seeing them unboxed and hearing about how they were used etc. 🙂
Oh I love tankettes. I think I have some little L3/35s somewhere around my apartment. As to the question at the bottom of the article, a Mark IV. Probably a late G model.
And yes, Poland got an unfortunate hand in WW2. Of course, basing their entire war plan on the French attacking Germany when the Germans attacked Poland proved to be a particularly unsound decision. They did okay for the odds against them.
proud to be half-polish *waves flag* …thanks mother !
and btw ….. Darrel talking about how he would have fun to gun ” all ” down ….should we worry ? o..O
German tanks in 1939 also had this coin-thick armour and there is a record of a squadron of TKS tankettes with 20mm guns routing German tank squadron and subsequently gunning down tank crews escaping their machines.
The tankettes were also meant to be used to tug artillery.
The factory producing them had a very 40k-like logo:

wow a flames of war review…with darrell behind the cam, impossible. I bet if you examine those tanks real close he found some way he could incorporate those into his space wolf army. Look out for roxied 40k cheese. It is the only way darrell would be seen with polish tanks, on camera, talking about the war the USA won. I know that statement is potentially controversial, and feathers will ruffle, but the fact is, all the countries of europe fought nazi’s using either American equipment directly or with equipment American money bought. Period. In fact, there is a long… Read more »
I’m really pleased to be seeing this, as I thought FoW really lacked some stuff for early war armies and I have a late war werhmacht force and really wanted to expand into early war stuff but couldn’t be bothered. Until I saw these…
