Flames Of War Unboxing: Panzer Kampfgruppe
March 29, 2019 by dignity
Justin and John take a look at the Panzer Kampfgruppe set for Flames of War from Battlefront Miniatures.
It's a monstrous set of German armour contained in the set with Panthers, Panzers and Tigers all ready to make an Allied player feel unsafe on their side of the table. the guys are pleased with the additional material included in the set as well with bags for the sprues, easy to follow assembly guides and an A5 rulebook of the core Flames of War rules.
If the Fairy Godmother turned Justin and John into tanks, what tanks would they be?
Interesting tidbit: The Schurzen panels were actually made to combat the PTRD anti-tank rifle. It just so happened that later down the line, they realised they could defeat shaped charged weapons too.
I am spending most of this with the start of “Bravestarr” going round in my head – “Speed of a PUMA”
and the most wunderful thing about Tiggers is the battlegroup has more than 1…
Tiggers ?
Why do I suddenly feel the need to paint htem bright orange with black stripes ?
😉
Bleedin eck that box packs quite a punch!
Ahhh…there is nothing like seeing the steel beauty of my favorite nations armor fist to melt my heart with sheer delight 🙂
Awesome starter kit, i have been uming and arring over what might first 15 mil purchase would be and know i have found it. Tank you very much chaps!
Also just to put in my two cents, it wasn’t in this set but my all time favorite Panzer would be the Königstiger or literally the “Royal Tiger” or if you want to be super basic the Tiger II.
Good looking set.
That’s an awesome late war starter set!
You are saying there is a reason to play the game with something other then the minimum number of infantry? If I wanted to play an infantry game I would not play Flames of War. That is a good looking box.
Tigers, Tigers, Tigers
I miss not be able to field Tigers, ok, i can but not like i used to.
Miss the warriors from V3 to V4. Otto Carius was and is still my favorite Russian T34 killer.
so many kills, the barrel is white with kill rings.
beautiful sprus beautiful minis
How many points is this set ?
Is this ‘tournament ready’ or does it need a few extras ?
I hope we’ll see equivalent sized boxes for all main factions soon.
love the cats, but I do wish they would mount the 88 on wheels.
Those are some really nice looking tanks
Bit of a bad starter set/beginner box…. No sign of the most common German Tank during the late war (Stug), instead packed with the old wargaming trope of Panthers and Tigers (with the Panthers outnumbering the few PZer IVs?). Most powerful anti-tank gun option and most powerful armoured car option. Really a box like this needs to build the CORE of an army, and allow the player to expand upwards with more powerful options (if they wish) or continue with getting the COMMON equipment that was around during the period. By adding the most powerful kit, you force the Allied… Read more »
Valid points … OTOH I must say that this box has pretty much all of the goodies I’d want in my late war German list. I know too little of late war German army to even know what a decent core is supposed to be like, but I do know shiny … and this is very shiny. Another part of the problem is that the purely historical customer already has enough knowledge to build such things. They don’t need such boxes, although it would help the ones who want a more historical correct version without having to do a ton… Read more »

Let’s see what you’ve got 😀
A great army in a box.
Oh,
You’re that guy !?!?
Nice box but it does feel ever so slightly overpowered. The comparable allied box must be massive!!
Such a good kit!
It is/was a nice set, although it is not longer available as Battlefront is getting set to release the updated rules for late war. Not sure why you are doing this unboxing now, but the models in it are indeed all good and you will be able to use them in the new rule set (with updated point costs)
Here is a link to the product on the FoW website showing it is no longer available:

This is a great starter set to draw in the non historical gamer. Not sure it’s very balanced as a force but you get enough of each type to be able to build out from there. The models themselves are very good and fairly easy to put together, just don’t do what I did with the 88 and put the gun on upside down…
