Reshaping bent resin is possible, just get a bowl of warm water and stick the bent bit in, reshape while warm and then stick it in cold water to set it.
The commissar is definitely one of the models more suited to finecast, the worst one I’ve seen so far is Njal Stormcaller in GW Glasgow, three models of him every one had a big thick piece of flash through his face were the mold had cracked and one was missing the most part of his psyber eagle.
Is Darrell not mic’d in this video? For every wide angle shot, it sounds echo-y, almost like his voice is being picked up by a microphone on the camera.
i may have made an oversight in the edit fixing it now 🙂

This is probably one of the nicest Finecast modells out there. I really like the pose and the style of the miniature and the quality looks good too.
Did you accidentally cut off the bit that whent into the slot thinking it was flashing? Ive dont that a few times.
I like resin one model i think really benefited from finecast is some fat nurgle thing. I dont know what it was called but the finecast really brought out the spots and other gross stuff. I didnt see anything wrong with it and if there where any bubbles it wouldnt have mattered because, its nurgle and it probably would have a bubble on its nose anyway
I’ve got the Commissar Yarrick – in finecast and found it to be an easy model to put together and apart from one tin, easy fix bubble in his coat, was error free. They are VERY light and feel kinda wrong…
This one has been dusted undercoat, base colours and a wash, still needs more detailing but you get the idea.

Very nice work there
I have to say I ve been to a games workshop this week and examined every blister of finecast modells and couldnt find any obvious casting errors at all , maybe they are getting better at this . lets hope so !
Thats a nice cast, and I do like resin, indeed, if they all came out as well as that, I doubt GW would have a problem, even with the price, people will pay for quality.
Its about £10 I think, and whilst its a lot for the ancient sculpts like Dante and Abbadon (that doesnt even fit in with his troops any more as hes a smaller scale), its pretty much the same cost as a warmachine hero type mini , although infinity ones are easily as well sculpted and a third less,
I have to say, I’m impressed with your Commissar model (though I suspect you may have cleaned it up before filming?)- I’m working on one at the moment and was absolutely disgusted with the amount of mould line and flash that was on the model- thankfully I didn’t buy it, I’m painting it on commission but I’m massively unimpressed. I also think being told that they bounce, and that you can drop them is, as a selling point in GW stores is the last thing I would want to know. The whole Finecast idea- along with other recent events definitely… Read more »
Resin does have advantages, and it clearly shows on this model… I’m very impressed ! As I said before, GW should have moved to resin ten years ago…

I don’t like metal models, I’m a lazy builder and hate all the extra work metal needs.
I’m most excited about the next gen of sculpts that are made FOR resin. If they are half as good as some of the forgeworld stuff then they will be awesome.
Exactly ! For now, we’ve only seen the old sculpts, some of them quite the caricature… Few of the GW sculpts so far actually do justice to resin. Perhaps one day they’ll sell miniatures of a quality on par with their price…
Oh, but I’m being mean, and I apologize. Apart from the miscasts, the new range isn’t bad, really… Better than the metal one, really.
BoW Romain
Just been trying to clean up a Citadel metal model and it a pain in the rasp.
Wish it was in this new stuff as there are a couple of things on the model I am not happy with,
Remodelling would be a breeze with plasiresin
I have also cut off some details as there are no instructions and the moulding made the detail look like flash! doh!
I think we’ll have to be keeping our eyes open during this monster magic thing. Massive monsters in resin: in theory, easy to put together! Metal monsters are a nightmare!
I bash GW as much as the next guy…this figure however looks great.
Dynamic pose, seems flawless casting, no stupid flash everywhere and no silly bent all out of shape worries. If its less than £10 id consider one just to paint and enjoy
well i think theres a little bit of flash on the cap but thats easy to take care of.

I love the new product for no other reason that it is not metal I don’t see how people can enjoy working with metal it’s so very horrid, I mean I would prefer it just to be normal plastic but how can you like metal?
Give me plastic every day of the week.
I love metal miniatures but it’s not about enjoying working with the material but rather holding them, feeling their weight.
Plus they don’t melt in sunlight as plastic and finecast ones have a risk to do.
You could make your wedding ring from great looking plastic but people prefer gold for some reason…
This has little to do with the video but I find that I get a grin on my face when I see the sponcers for the video are not GW but the group they look down on, Wayland Games. Good for them for being the better men. Also that Infinity is a sponcer for a 40k vid had me scratch my head. Good on you guys as well 🙂
I like the cute cartoon add for salt/sugar free snacks, all bright and jolly.
Then you get Warren or Darrell! 😛
You have to love the incongruity of it! lol
err, these new BoW posting banners with your pics on, why does this one say Justin with Sam’s face on there looking terribly nervous
(unless I’m getting you all mixed up, except Darrel, him you can’t mistake)
No no, this is Justin.
Sam has hair.
BoW Romain
oh dear, hat means I’ve always had those two mixed up, my bad
Its OK for the longest time I thought Sam was Andy 🙂
Did anyone consider air bubble on commissar’s belt at 4:22?
Well spotted ! It’s an easy fix…
And there are air bubbles in a lot of resin miniatures, even high quality. I know, I know, there shouldn’t be. You shouldn’t be paying for a product and expect such mistakes…
Most of the bubbles aren’t placed on crucial details, in general, except with the finecast miniatures as of late (and that’s probably just because it’s the beginning… They’ll be ironing the kinks out, I believe).
If you find a flaw that prevents you from painting the mini, you can (and should) have it replaced by GW… It’s free.
Just my two cents.
BoW Romain
Agreed indeed. I don’t want to whine about prices, quality and what I should expect from finecats. Of course I understand that sometimes we buy a miscasts that we can freely exchange for really high quality models. And we always have issues with models. Moulding lines mostly on plastics. Nasty nap like things in metal. And now we have small air bubbles. Our hobby about modelling too, after all =)
Oh lol – “finecats”, nice typing error.
The arms should be magnetized to move them 🙂 , just my thought.
I know it’s easier to do with resin, but it’s a bit “overkill”, since he has no replacement arms… Don’t you think ?
BoW Romain
Haha. Nice idea.WH40k Action Figures! In stores NOW!!!
yeah that’s Justin he just looks like he’s about to be violated by shakarosurus, thats some mad skills @tinracer.
I’ve gotta say although I’m really not a fan of GW since the price rise, that commisar is quite nice and £9.50 not as crazy a price as I thought it would be its not great but it could be worse.
Yes, nice vid, nice fig.
I builded plastic all of my life (40 years modelling experience), but started to use and LIKE metal just 2 years ago…
I am really gonna miss the metal GW series.
It has its ways working with metal, but hey, I’m a blacksmith/armourer/jewelry maker for my profession… I have to like metal…
so far i like the resin from what ive seen the detail is awesome
Well I have to admit I am curious about this material, and yeah I’m no GW fan – but I may buy something from the range – the tzeentch flamers maybe as they are one of the few actually cool looking and lovecraftian creatures in 40k that arent boring-bipedal-humanoid stuff – plus to be fair, £15 for 3 models seems one of the better/more fair prices for GW stuff…
After hearing a lot of bad press about the (alleged) shortcomings of these new resin products, I bought the Lord Commissar in order to make my OWN mind up! My one had about 3 tiny bubbles in areas that didn’t show after construction. Clean up was no problem, easier than metal. Fit of parts was very good except the tab that was meant to go into the slotta-base was far too thick and needed thinning. (Might be easier to cut it off and glue the figure’s feet direct to the base, as we have just seen done! 🙂 ) The… Read more »
Sorry I do not buy the better detail, resin does hold better detail, but from pics I see the detail levels on these are the same and massive Voodoo agrees with that on their finecast article
http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2011/06/games-workshops-finecast-review.html
That’s probably the best review I’ve seen – and its good to see both models undercoated for comparison finally – they eh, look the same to me. And the note on things like Studio McVey ect is what I believe too – small companies like that have been doing “finecast” for years – I fail to see what’s so cutting-edge about it.
It is better detail because they unlike other resin users have a secret blend that flows into fin detail. Shhh, I know thr secret, its MSG. 😉
So who only clicked on this vid to see Darrel rant about Finecast? I’m sure I’m not the only one.
What do I think?
I’d hunt down a metal one based soley on price (hey, I live in Australia – so choices are paying through my bleeding orifice or buying through some online source that’d be painful to return any bubbled or miscast finecast figures to), though the thought of not needing to pin the arms in place *does* appeal.
