Mad Dok Grotsnik gave him his new metal head. I always liked the model myself. I bought two of them, one set only for the legs to make an inquisitor scale squat. I am glad that nothing really got lost in the translation in the move from metal to resin.
The resin for big cast things are a good thing as the joints will hold longer than metal. That is the 1 big advantage I see with the metal to resin change. Small thin things like staffs, blades and thin arms will be a pain in resin for good reason.
I like the look of this one – seems to be nicely detailed. Plus this rubber/resin/plastic stuff for me is just great because metal models always seem to fall off somewhere at some point in their lives and at least if a finecast one has a breakage it won’t take as long or feel as painstaking to fit together again.
Wish I had had this resin stuff for my Demon Prince model in my old Chaos Marine army.
I actually remember when this guy orginaly come out as metal miniature as part of 3th Armageddon war campaing.
we need a good old fashioned world wide campaign like this one again …. was a great thing !..but this time the outcome should actually have some sort of effect on the fluff and maybe also on the game itself
his right arm looks awfull.. moldlines all over it
I don’t see the problem with resin models- they paint well and look great!
Yeah but do they paint better and look any better than the metals?
These reviews are classic! 🙂
If you don’t want the models you should do competitions, or something like that with them..
Dude, you always give us a good honest review, keep em comin!
Im not buying any finecast stuff, infact im not buying any more GW stuff. Im moving to flames of war or something that isnt a GW game, maybe clevage. To hell with GW with their misscasts and hairs. Its disgusting, over charging models which have bubbles on their noses and half their ammo belt missing. I dont want that. Goodbye GW, ill come back if you sort yourselves out,..IF
Darrell, stop moving the sprue under the close cam. 😉
I’ve only got one of the new Finecast models – Commander Dante – and even though I’ve only had a chance to clean it up, I already thinks it’s superior to the old metal version (which I also have). It’s easier to clean up moldlines, and easier to glue together. Plus the detail just seems much sharper than the metal. Can’t comment on the painting as yet, but I’ve never liked painting the metal figs, so I would imagine that’ll be better too!
I wanted to see more of that 40mm base!
I paused the video a few times for camparison and I can see more detail on the Finecast miniature, although its not much to be honest. The mould lines aren’t really a problem either, just needs a bit of tidying up and when it comes to knocking a Finecast model off a table and doing the same with a metal I know the metal one would smash and the Finecast one would just bounce about the place in one piece. When these Finecast first come out I really wasn’t happy because the amount of miscast but GW seem to have… Read more »
fine cast is fucking shit
ordered price apophas yesterday and he was missing an arm
(and i didn’t lose it )
Had a chance to pop into GW a couple of days ago (I was gonna buy some spray – but at £9.50 a can I’m gonna try Halfords instead…) – and took the opportunity to check the Finecast stuff (not that there’s any Metal left on the shelves for comparison) and gotta say I’m deeply unimpressed (especially for the price). Apart from obvious defects (of which is well documented and completely obvious – especially pronounced given the sharpness of the details) – two things stand out as notable – mould lines are horrific (almost all the models I looked at… Read more »
^ not saying white metal was great, but as alluded to before, resin good for some stuff, metal for others. Is there a “holy grail” substance that can do both big and light, but durable and thin at the same time as keeping detail and being economic to manufacture?
Plastic – more durable the finecast, lighter and easier to assemble/convert than metal.
I think moulds for plastics are very expensive – that’s why GW went resin route with heroes etc.
”rear on onto each other…but maybe thats more of a marine thing” lol ah Darrell’s innuendos…
i dropped a couple resin models and both times they just bounced off the floor
🙂
is it just me or is the metal ones bosspole horns curved forward and the resin ones are straight out and a tiny bit above the skull is missing but did darrell just forget to glue it on
