Is Andy the only Warmachine player on the BOW team or do others collect and play? I would be interested to know what game systems each of the guys play / collect.
I play very little… I am just tactically lousy, so I don’t really enjoy that too much, but there are a few games I actually like to play, such as Warmachine or Ron & Bones… I haven’t played a lot, though. I want to play those a lot more, and I want to play Infinity, but so far I’ve just been too busy. I’m mostly a painter and modeler, as you are. I am very picky about the minis i choose : Only the unusual and beautiful sculpts in each range. It follows that I haven’t got much Games Workshop… Read more »
At 4 points they are a tad too good, at 5 they would be balanced, but at the moment I found them undercosted because of what they bring to the table.
Ryan is the girl with two guns.
As for after the battlebox, your first buy if you play cygnar must be the squire, it simple I never saw a cygnar player without it, basically their caster bring 2 point less ot the table as everyone take the squire, it is that good.
It’s true, I am a Cygnar player, and they should be 5 pts. They just fit too many lists at 4pts, they become almost an auto-include. I am against auto-include stuff. Of course, I own them and Squire…. 😀
They are really good, however you can’t use eVlad feats on them, I guess you are aware of this :).
I put them together recently and they are not to bad but I would advice to paint them with the arms off otherwise it looks really tricky. I had to pin the arm of the one with the arms raised otherwise it would break up while playing as you tend to take him by the axe. IMO they are not as nice as the black 13th but they look solid on the table.
eVlad (Vlad 2) doesnt do much for the great bears as the feat is non character models only. Bears work better with Irusk (either) thanks to battle lust.
@ dignity …… Thanks BOW Justin! Im more than a painter and modeller than gamer so i just play 40k occasionally but im interested in Infinity and Warmachine after watching BOW coverage. As a painter, ive started to collect the Hasslefree ‘adventurer’ range tho and really fancy painting a Warjack at some point. Hard to find time with a full time job and DJ career to maintain! I like the Khador models alot for Warmachine and like these new releases. Maybe its time to make a purchase from Privateer Press….
They are incredibly good, and they have an incredible coolness factor… Not to mention a superb sculpt ! This is one of the Cygnar Trademarks, in my opinion… I know it’s because of those gun mages I wanted to play Cygnar.
And celebrating them in a great video like this one certainly doesn’t hurt !
They are awesome my bud got one of these a bit back and the kick butt. sadly though the arm for Lynch was missing out of the pack so we just call him battle wounded XD
If you expose your problem, Privateer Press will be glad to send you the missing arm free of charge. They did that for the head of a warjack I bought. Their customer service is cool that way ! Just send them an e-mail, perhaps with a picture and complete reference number of the mini, and any necessary information…
Had a miscast mangler bit a few years back and got a new bit very quickly with a transcript of our e-mails and some funky little drawings, loved the doodles for the personal touch 🙂
I know how to do that. I believe we’ll do a video tutorial on how to make a proper source lighting/glow in the future… I don’t know if it’ll be Cryx, though. We’ll have to see about that !
I heard that the sculpt on the Black 13th was off, and I have read some Cygnar player’s posts at PP who say that they aren’t fun to paint. However, I just finished painting mine and I quite like the finished look of them. The figs do seem a tad on the small side.
Warmachine’s scale is 30mm heroic the black 13 were independently sculpted for them and I believe it was done in 28mm realistic so they are slightly smaller then most normal figures.
It’s Olivier Nkweti-Lafitte… French sculptor known for working on the Rackham range. He now is a 3D artist for Ankama (the guys who make Dofus, some of you may know about this) and he also sculpts freelance for different companies, such as Privateer Press, Corvus Belli (yes, he sculpted for Infinity) and Upper Deck (the guys who make the World of Warcraft miniatures).
I know my french mini sculptors… We have good ones.
I don’t know if he was the one responsible for deciding to make Lynch’s arms separate from his body, but whoever that was should’ve just made his whole left arm separate instead of just the forearm. Because of how Lynch’s coat is posed, it was almost impossible for me to get the arm in there – had to use a pair of tweezers clamped around his hand.
Then five minutes later I bumped the model hard enough to knock the arm off and make me re-glue it.
Cheers man, have to admit I’ve been geeking out over JAG recently, having just started into Hell Dorado it reminds me of the joy Rackham brought me. The french definitely know the secret of awesome models, shame the companies struggle to last
All you need do is compare them to regular gun mages. The Black 13th look like a bunch of school kids dressed up in their dads work gear!
As to why they are under costed at 4pts, I guess that PP just needed to provide a little more incentive to get people to buy out of scale and rather ugly models. After the Gorax, these models are the most in dire need of a re-make.
They are a bit on the small side, yeah.
They look like Hobbits compared to most of the rest of Cygnar.
I rather like the sculpts, actually, I just wish there was a way to scale them up a bit.
Nearly the entire Cygnar unit range needs it more, they are small but perfectly formed and full of character. The only thing that holds me back from being interested in cygnar are the poor sculpts, this unit is one of few exceptions. If storm blades/guard looked this good I would do cygnar at the drop of a hat.
It’s weird how people see such different things in models, part of what makes this hobby fantastic 🙂
Sculpts ae not bad althought they are not among my favorite sculpts from all Cygnar models. How ever in game these are actually very good so that kinda balances that out.
Well other than the mix up on the models in the review you were spot on they are a great unit.
The scale issue isnt too bad as normally they are soooooo far back or away from other models you cant see the difference.
4pts compared to other factions named units make them the bargin of the century but with character restrictions (which should have been raised as been around for a year now in SR packs) does put a small dent in them as they cant now be in EVERY list thats just squire and journeyman – stupid Swans.
I thought Ryan was the woman (2 guns)??
Ryan is the woman with 2 guns. Andy got Ryan and Watts backwards.
Is Andy the only Warmachine player on the BOW team or do others collect and play? I would be interested to know what game systems each of the guys play / collect.
we all play different games i play and collect 40k, Warmachine, Infinity, Kings of War, Magic the Gathering and then i have a few consoles.

These guys + eCaine are just awesome, by far my favorite things from Cygnar.
Any chance of unboxing the Great Bears of Gallowswood Andy? I’ve been meaning to pick them up for use with eVlad, so a video would be much appreciated

Sounds nice. So they are next on the “must buy”-list 🙂

that’s cool thanks for the tip man
what brand of ink do you use to ink the model and can you use badab black
They are a great unit, only issue I’ve got with them is that the scale on the minis seems a bit off.
Does anyone know a method of painting the cryx green glow
I know how to do that. I believe we’ll do a video tutorial on how to make a proper source lighting/glow in the future… I don’t know if it’ll be Cryx, though. We’ll have to see about that !

They look fine to me…

Still the best sculpts in Cygnar and some of best in game, who was the sculpter?

The guy who sculpted these might have worked on Wakfu? I think I just had a crossover nerdgasm 😛
