The Changeling Creepy and Windswept!
August 7, 2010 by johnlyons
John takes a look at the Changeling for the Chaos Daemons and talks about what he likes and what he finds a little odd with this model. But see for yourself and make your own decisions on this one guys. We are a little on he fence with this model so we would love to know what you all think.

i think is looks so so , john is correct the wind swept thingi just isnt right, an die 3 armes casting are burning each other with there own flames… intendet or is it me looking at ik the wrong way ?
It looks like another wasted opportunity. It’s a good representation of the John Blanche concept sketches, but given the fluff written for it, a model that is in the process of transformation would have being nice?
The windswept issue was probably done by accident; rather to balance the model and they didn’t think about the wind. If the ‘things’ on the end of his staff were going the other way (in the direction the cloak makes you think the wind is going) then the model would look too weighted to the left (as you look at the picture)
It’s just a robe with a couple of horror arms sticking out…not really very impressive at all as a concept. I haven’t seen the John Blanche concept sketches but I’m not surprised to hear this is a representation of them, while Blanche can do amazing things with space battles and war machines I’ve really never been a fan of the vast majority of his attempts to draw living things. Some of the older metal sorcerer models (the Tzeentch bird headed one and the more horror like robed one) and even the metal horrors with horrors bursting out of each other… Read more »
I like it, but using the example of being a creature of the warp to ignore physics in one vid and then not allow that in the this one seems contraditory. It dosnt have to look real just cool and it does look cool.
no, it doesn’t look cool, this is cool

I agree with john and there is no contradiction, yes he said it in the other video but he meant it a way of over looking a small detail, in this one its like having 2 flags billowing in opposite directions even though they are right next to each other
Hmm
Changeling suggests a baby that has been swapped by the faeries.
Or I am assuming a shapeshifter, would that be correct?
It looks like is a duvet by a student away from home and having to change the duvet for the first time. The duvet is winning.
Steef, it is burning itself, so obviously the self harming duvet changer is an Emo.
The only snag with my theory is, do students ever change their duvet covers?
Haha, if my girlfriend hadn’t insisted i wouldn’t have bothered as a student 😀
Indeed, the changling is basicly supposed to be able to morph into pretty much anything, even to the extent of fooling other daemons. The background for the character is some of the best new stuff in the book, if I remember right it causes wars between the other gods by disguising as other daemons to enter their realms and cause trouble. “The Changeling personifies the part of Tzeentch’s psyche that is the meddler, the deceiver, the trickster. He can take the form of other beings, from the tiniest of insects to the most massive of Greater Daemons. None, save perhaps… Read more »
The only problem is, Deamons form themselves, yes? So if they forget what their form is, they technically no longer have a form and are just an entity. Therefore if they modeled the Changeling uncloaked, it would probably be a blank base.
Although, I’d have loved to see loads of different daemons modeled into one, like a plaguebearers arms with a bloodletters sword, a pink horror head and a deamonettes… well, yeah.
I’ve partially done that. I have beastmen legs, lizardman body, Tzeentch spawn head, bloodletter arm and old Chaos warrior arm (I collect mostly Chaos, lol)/
I’d like to change the Chaos warrior arm, but it gets the idea across much better and hits a lot more of the potential.
I wouldn’t buy it, its really, way to simple and yes the windswept thing is bad, I’d I ever want a changeling, I’d just buy a chaos sorcerer III and modify him a little

well it is a daemon, so physics don’t apply, but it could look so much better,
the three little arms burning themselves look kinda stupid and fluff-wise it’s a shapeshifter so why is he carring a staff bigger then himself?
as suggested above it would be cool if he were right in the middle of an transformation
or at least more creepy looking
I think its supposed to be that the cloak and him inside are getting blown to one side, or maybe there’s some kind of twisting magical wind around him as he changes form or something, but still, it is a pretty make-piece model. It has a feel about it as if its just out there now to fill in one of the gaps for the special characters, I think there’s maybe 5 or so left across all the codices that still don’t have specific models to represent them.
As a representation of the character, it’s alright. As a generic Herald of Tzeentch, it’s alright. It doesn’t really stand out that much, it’s just acceptable.
I remember over at Warseer when the first pictures of this model came out everyone had raised their arms, saying it was an amazing model. I never really thought it was that special. It’s nice GW quality but the entire pose and model itself is a bit boring. And there’s of course also the physics problem. 😛
I’m glad i was planning on sculpting and converting my own version…
I agree with cazboab plus its chaos he could be in the center of a tornado for all we know but that is beside the point, it still isn’t an impressive model
I’m going out on a limb I like this model yeah it’s not exactly a looker and the staff is going in the oppostit direection to the cloak.
But let me just point something out that people seem to forget THERE DAEMONS!!!!!!. When they burst through into the material they break space and time reality warps there couldbe wind blowing from every direction. the general consensus seems to be hung up over the wind direction as it would be in the real world and yet we play fantasy in a fantasy world !so why couldn’t things be different?
I admit that the wind directions thing can be put down to it being a daemon, but that feels like an excuse, not a reason. My gripe with the model is that there is none of the potential captured. The drawing in this style is amazaingly cool and perfectly represents in. In model form, it’s bland. VERY bland. I may use it as an ordinary Herald if it’s bought for me or gifted to me, but I won;t waste my money on it otherwise. I’d have much rather seen in mid-transformation or mutating between several forms to get the best… Read more »
This thing is priced as a special character, so that is 20 Canuckbucks for me. For a few dollars more, I could just get more horrors. It’s just a character upgrade for a unit, not even a big point investment. The bang for the buck simply isn’t there… just a bit meh.
I’d strongly prefer seeing a demonically inspired Empire captain, high elf, whatever race you’re facing… going with an expensive and uninspired model just seems to miss the point of a shapeshifting terror.
Will all of the new unboxing things have funny titles from now one?
Fluff is briljant, and I think the model looks ace! I’ve just stared painting it. However, I share your feelings about the windswept idea. I think i’ll bent de flags on the staff a bit to make it look more realistic. Still a good sculpt!
I’d just use the terminator chaplin model because it is so nice, I’d just say the Changling turned into him to confuse people.
Personally I can easily imagine the winds of magic swirling round the character in a vortex, swirling cloak in one direction and the flames and banners in another.. a little bending might suggest the swirling a little more.. I love it.
not very impressed, the vanilla chaos sorcerer is also a really boring model to look at
