Blood Red Skies Unboxing: Starter Set
April 2, 2018 by dignity
Take a look at the contents of the Blood Red Skies Starter Set. This is a new World War II mass air combat game from Warlord Games, written by renowned game developer Andy Chambers.
The kit includes single piece Spitfire MkII and BF-109 E miniatures so there's no assembly required the game itself has been designed with a simple ruleset to get you playing quickly.
Are you ready for a dogfight?

This has got me intrigued. Started out in the hobby building airfix with my dad and I’ve sunk god knows how many hours into combat flight simulators over the years. Been fancying a trip out on the bus for a while, may have to take a trip to Nottingham and give the game a go – take it Warlord will have a demo table for this at HQ? Tally ho chaps! (and chapesses!)
They certainly have had a demo table out in the store recently, but if you’re planning a trip it’s worth calling ahead just to make sure it’s out and ready.
Minis look better than I expected them to be. I wonder if there’s room to squeeze this one on to the shelf?
I just watched this, and yes, I´m ready for some dogfights. Just have to get one o´ those fancy mats we saw on Warren meets mat, this will be great. And there are so many planes, aces and so on to discover. This game has a future. Pacific? Aircraft carriers?
Btw the smallest unit of German planes in WW II was called a “Rotte” and it consisted of two planes. They usually sent 3 “Rotten” (funny for Brits to read this) out into battle. so it is perfect the game contains 6 German aircraft.
This was a very good one.
Anyone know what scale the planes are in this game?
They are 1/200 scale.
@comet5 thank you
I am so looking forward to picking this up at Salute.
hmmm if it is there I think this will be my pickup at Salute this year.
I like the Wings of Glory Battle of Britain system and I do not believe I will invest in this one.
However, those who do like this game and would rather have a model miniature for the bombers instead of the punch outs, Wings of Glory WWII miniatures are the same scale.
Knowing Warlord bombers can’t be far behind
I’d love to see a “Let’s Play” of this game.
You can watch the demo game

Really nice presentation. Have already seen the painting videos and the aerial mat so looks like a ‘go’.
The only real problem I see is different planes being incorporated into the mix (will there be expansions…since its warlord, I am certain there will be but which planes, and will it take later era’s… I ,e 1940 vs 1941 vs 1944, etc ) but alot of potential.
This game does look great. I assume future expansions will have bomber models. I look forward to seeing a Lancaster in the mix.
Just a thought, having a Messerschmidt Me 262 in there would make this game nicely bonkers.
Heard they be double the sets by year end, and i see a B17 model online somewhere too.
I’d like to see a full game played using the advanced rules and the cards.
