So guys Warren has sat down with Gareth from Battlefront to have a look at the plastic T-34 kit. It seems really cool as it lets you build the different variations of this iconic tank, not only that, Gareth has a little sneaky peek at 2 tanks that aren't out just yet, enjoy everybody.
T34/57? That seems an odd choice… is that some sort of Kitikami of tank warfare?
Early war turrets would be a nice addition — maybe a resin conversion kit?
The 57 denotes a high velocity zis 57mm gun fitted to be a tank hunter…. Not many where made though
Well I’m making 40 😉
Going over to the soviets…. That’s an interesting and scary prospect
40 with flamethrower’s? 😉
I’ve gotta be honest, I have never heard of the T-34/57, and I’ve done 30 years of gaming and writing on Eastern Front WWII. I know that the the Soviets fielded ZiS-2 and -4 57mm towed ATGs, naturally. But I never knew that they mounted any (even in small numbers) on any T-34s. Just goes to show that there’s always something to learn. 🙂 This had to be a “desperation” measure as even the original short-barreled 76.2mms (L30 caliber, I think) had to be superior to the 57. Any ideas on how many of these T-34/57s were made? What units… Read more »
And in the video that 57 looks like the later 1941-model 76.2mm gun. Of course I could be wrong. I’ve only read/heard about the 1940 T-34s with the short 76.2, the 1941s with the longer 76.2mm, the OT-34 flamethrower variants, the 1942 variants with the more hex-shaped (easier to manufacture) turrets, and of course the T-34/85 along with all the SU-variants.
I really haven’t got the patience to paint a ‘horde’ army but those tanks especially SU-100 look f’n awesome!!!
Nice studio by the way.
My face lit up exaclty like @warzan‘s on hearing the words “40 tanks”
I can’t wait to see the plastic SU kit, and this makes me wonder if they’ll do the same thing with the ISU as well.
Very nice kit, lots of options and good to see Battlefront thinking ahead to using the T34 chassis for all the other vehicles that were based upon it in real life.
And very well done for the sneak peek at the SU-85 and SU-100.
Just need to make a correction that I heard in the video. I’m an ex tank crewman, so these little details stand out to me. A muzzle brake is an attachment added to the end of the gun in order to disperse the gases to lessen recoil. The mantlet is the part where the gun attaches to the turret.
Thanks for this!
Noted for future 🙂
I have been comparing the Battlefront sprue to the PSC sprue and also checked out the Model Dads reviews again. Both are great kits, with some pros and cons for each. Here goes: Battlefront: more options in the kit, tracks come as one piece each side so easier to assemble, comes with decals, can have 2 fully assembled turrets per tank PSC: no decals, less options in box (76.2mm & 85mm), tracks/wheels 3 parts per side but the sprue gates are smaller and better concealed than Battlefront’s making detachment of parts easier and cleanup is simpler, and also has 2… Read more »
*rubbing hands* A alot of my russian friends always complained they can’t afford the hordes of SU-100s they need. It’s gonna be a great (and to be fair propably devastating) year for my troops.
So how long before Warren fields some SU-100’s as Beutepanzers with his Stugs? or maybe some Hetzers..
As a side note, a great sci-fi tank would be the Swedish S Tank; not sure anyone makes it in 15mm scale though.
QRF are in the process of producing an S Tank in 15mm http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DAMhsGcuVwk/Uoq39DTTryI/AAAAAAAACOA/AvYcWrGUXos/s1600/Render06-note.jpg
I nearly got run over by a Hetzer in a reenactment… Always loved that tank killer, If Warren is going allies its only fair I should look into a German army… Hetzers FTW it seems
I have been really enjoying the flames of war for the win series and turn between open fire and deadzone for my xmas gift to myself. More importantly I would love to see a battle between Dave’s Germans and warrens Russians.
As soon as I watched this video I put in an order. I have assembled the tanks which are fantastic! Has anyone got any recommendations on painting them using Vallejo paints in a manner that is historically accurate? The sprays and Russian Uniform are out of stock.
