What’s In The Box: Afflictor, Briscards & Assault on Normandy
June 26, 2013 by dignity
Video Sponsors: Wayland Games - Mercs - Battle Foam - Infinity
In this episode of What's in the Box we get a look at the Afflictor for Legion of Everblight with Justin and Mike. Next on the block we get a peek at some Briscards for Ariadna with Carlos, and finally Warren has been joined by our buddies Alessio & Andy from Warlord Games to have a gander at the Assault on Normandy box set for Bolt Action. Will Warren end up going 28mm with his Nachtwulf army too?!

The Zerg are coming!
Good to see Warren and Stu back even if it is an even more hyper Warren than normal 😉
I am really looking forward to infinity week!
Sorry, but I still feel like an observer and not a participant.
The original unboxing format was sooooo much better than this. It was one to one with the viewer and much more intimate.
Now don’t get me wrong, having somebody that knows the system is great and I applaud that immensly, but the show is just comming over as 2 people talking to each other and at no point did I feel like I was being addressed or included in the discussion.
Also. The three segments were unrelated and should have been seperate videos.
And one last thing. Ditch the 3 Stoogies doing stand up. ;-p
Just my 2 pennys worth. Not everybody will agree.
If its intimate you want, next week I’ll take you out for an ice cream and a smooch before we upload the show 😉
As for three separate vids, why not just watch the three parts on separate days, problem solved 🙂
I see posts like these every once in a while and I just don’t get it. I think the move to Tabletop Nation was difficult, but the right choice. I think these guys are doing an incredible job; I like how it feels like they’re letting us into their gaming club by being familiar with us and I like how the box openings are both up close to the model and yet still with an accompanying interview.
Don’t get me wrong, you were relatively polite with your comments, and opinions are fine, so I consider myself to just be the one who nullifies your vote with my own.
I won’t pass judgement on what is, after all, only an opinion… I for one happen to find the new format more dynamic, although I’m sure it could be improved (as everything can).
Many people liked the old format, many people like the new one, maybe the format will be changing again one of these days (who knows ? I certainly don’t ! I just paint stuff…)
Believe it or not, we got comments from people who preferred “discussion” type videos rather than “one on one”, when the old format was being used.
The moral of the story : you can’t please everyone ! We strive to do quality content with what man-hour and budget we have. So far, I daresay it’s worked pretty well.
I’m sorry you regret the not-so-old days, and I hope other parts of Beasts of War still find grace in your eyes !
I recall the first unboxing being only one fellow and he would shake like a leaf. It wasn’t that personal and rather dull.
Now we have so much more coverage and effort to edit good videos. This and many more will continue to evolve into what can be sometimes better and sometimes worse videos.
I personally like that we are seeing new faces of people that are “guests” in the videos. Most look like they are in truth just average gamers like you and I that asked to be in the video. Thats a plus for me as I see that as way more personal than all the staff doing everything.
Also I’ll thumb you up @tasker because your so honest about your view even though you know others will disagree with you. I respect that from you.
“Also I’ll thumb you up @tasker because your so honest about your view even though you know others will disagree with you. I respect that from you.”
Thank you very much.
I have to admit that some times I can be a bit too direct and my honesty has gotten me into trouble with forums on ocassion. lol
As I said. It’s just my 2 pennys worth. Not everybody will agree.
And nor should they. If we all liked the same thing then life would be boring.
Just because I don’t like the direction that BoW has gone in doesn’t mean others wont.
Doesn’t mean my opinion is any less valid that theirs though.
Hmmmm. How odd. I could have sworn I stuck smilies in that post.
Which Stooge was I? Larry?
Great stuff. Warren’s psychotic, but I love him.
Doesn’t matter if the Zerg are coming.
The Tyranids will just eat them.
@dignity you should let warren at the relentless again his enthusiasm is infectious!
Infinity ws nice to see modern looking troops in a futuristic setting but aleph have my favourite looking models by far i think.
an Afflictor will inevitably find it’s way into my force but agree with many the tail is a bit… off rest of the model is nice though
That bolt action starter box appears to be one of the most comprehensive starters i’ve seen very nice models with plenty of options undoubtedly will see it locally soon as theirs a push for a WW2 game at my local club.
@stuart and @warzan it was good to see you both again stop hiding 😉
There’s something pleasingly anarchic about the chemistry of these three. 🙂
Look forward to seeing them back on the Weekender.
Good to see Warren in for one of these. And am really looking forward to the infinity week next week. Discovered Infinity on this site so I enjoy all that I can get.
Great to see historical games getting some good coverage on here and I really like the idea of Warren who freely admits to knowing next to nothing about history showing it’s not essential to be able to get into a great game.
I remember I had the same issue but the other way round, when my son introduced me to 40k.
Woot. Infinity and bolt action are my favorite. 🙂
As always, the infinity sculpts kill it.
Oooooh! Business cards of dooooooom
Bought my first bolt action set a few weeks ago. Wish I would have watched this video first as I bought a German army set and did not know that a starter set existed. Nice vid and I look forward to see how this game is played and how if compares to Flames of War.
More great unboxing guys but I really enjoyed the one of the Bolt Action starter set. The Rules for Bolt Action are just awesome, it really has a nice ebb and flow. It is one of the best rulesets I have ever played.
Its me or carlos now is an infinity male sex symbol?
TE AMAMOS BOSTRIA!
CC:@bostria (does it work like that?)
Looks like warren should be limited on those energy drinks. Otherwise Briscards look great
I want me some business cards! I could stand to be a bit more professional.
I approve of the new format.
I have enough videos jamming up my subscription box, so a bit of consolidation is always good in my book.
In addition, I like to watch videos like this while painting, so the longer they are, the less I have to stop painting and click on a new video.
Je veux miniatures Infinity français!
Les livres ont été traduits, heureusement ! 🙂
Briscards would be nice… lol
Briscards for Ariadna are awesome looking squad!
Lovely looking sculpts from infinity as always and a good format for the films I think.
The more I see of Infinity the more I’m interested. Thanks for the unboxing.
nice video.
I absolutely love Pedro´s sculpting, he rocks at posing, anatomy, clothing textures…
Warren, did you forget your Ritalin again?
I rather like the more realistic sized guns.
I’m looking really forward to see you guys unbox some of the Bolt Action Tanks. That’ll be cool.
Loving all the infinity sculpts, and can’t wait for infinity week 2!
I can feel money about to be spaffed on Infinity before long. I can just feel it.
Also Bolt Action. It’s a good job Assault on Normandy is the Yanks, rather than the Brits or I’d have bought it before the video finished.
Every time I watch ‘Whats in the box?’ I keep hoping somebody at BOW will sample Brad Pitt from the end scene of the movie asking Morgan Freeman ‘Whats in the box?’ and hit it every time a box gets opened. Apologies, I have an odd mind.
The movie ‘Seven’. I seem to have missed that out.
The movie ‘SEVEN’ by the way. 🙂
Love all your shows. Can’t wait for On the Table to return. But if I happen to win this, I’m going to have to start building a Frenchie army. I can save face by thinking of them as a Gaulic army, i guess.
Pick me! :s
Infinity models so cool but having just started not the easiest to glue together with some of the tiny bits. Liked the old format but the new is more entertainment for my two penneth. And thanks Warren, just doubled my chances of some bisc u itss 😉
Sweet looking Infinity models.
another great set of unboxings guys, Infinity especially.
Je voudrais les briscards,
Briscards – These are nice near-future looking minis. I doubt our local Ariadna player will field them though, he prefers dirt-cheap chain rifles (and lots of them).
Afflictor – I hate Legion. But their beasts are sooo pretty.
Assault on Normandy – I wish the rulebook was smaller (and softback) but otherwise it looks like a fair bit in that box.
great vid, looking forward to next week.
Thanks for the video. Just joined Beast of War and really enjoyed the unboxings. I love Infinity’s models. They always just look amazing.
Bolt action also looks interesting. I like that you can start building lists with just the starter box.
Those briscards look awesome! Great video guys.
I’m totally excited for another Infinity week!
hooo I enjoy the return of Warren and Stu ^^
but I really love the Carlos infinity themed speech..
I play Infinity and of corse I love this stuff
I don’t mind if you wanna give me some “businnes card” =P or Briscard or how do you wanna call them^^
Great video and love the Briscards
Nice! Just gotta love those Briscards, been eyeing them ever since they came out
Infinity and Bolt Action in the same video, sign me up. Two of my favorite games.
The Assault on Normandy is an excellent box.
The afflictor is growing on me
infinity models gorgeous as always.
The briscards do look like they ought to fit in with the Reaper IMEF pretty well
I do like the new format. It gets you to learn about other systems that maybe you don’t play yet without an extra effort if that makes sense. I also don’t mind the discussion rather than the 1on1 style of presentation, I think it feels more natural. The only thing I miss is that in the old unboxings, you would always show the miniature or models built so you get an idea how they actually look on the table. I do muss that but that’s easy enough to still implement.
PS.: PLEASE GIVE ME THE ASSAULT ON NORMANDY BOX pretty please!!!! It looks fantastic!
I like it how this show and how it introduces me to gaming systems I didn’t know much about.
I nees my biscuits:-)
I want this starter set !
This made me looking forward to the 2013 Infinity Week even more. Definitely a must-see.
Shame that you did stop to assemble models
Love the Briscards, 99% of infinity models are really good sculpts. Penthesilea is such a beautiful models, and an amazing paint job!
The Bolt Action stuff is interesting, will it be receiving more coverage? Bolt Action Week maybe?
Infinity is so cool. Wish more at my club would get into it.
Briscards for the Win!!
As awesome as the Briscards are what I really want to see is the rest of the studio painted miniatures Carlos brought with him. Zoom in! Zoom in!
why arent more people playing this game, the models are swish
More infinity models are always welcome here
Definitely prefer the new format..
Some big names on this video, well worth watching! 🙂
Oooh. Briscards.
The unboxings are ok but if I remember correctly, they used to include assembly and seeing the unpainted result, so there was also an assessment of the ease of construction. I don’t mind the jibber-jabber but the camera should be on the minis for the bulk of the time, not Justin’s beard/no beard/heavy stubble.
I have no problem with unboxings including a mixture of formats, scales and paradigms.
Assault on Normandy wins it for me – sheer quality, quantity, flexibility and value for money. No negative waves, Moriarty. 🙂
Thanks for the feedback
I miss assembly too, but that single step adds so much complexity to the process it’s unreal. (think about mistakes, assembly time, breakages, missing parts, … It all creats huge headaches)
But…
I agree it’s great And we are looking at how we can manage it in the future. 🙂
looking forward to infinity week!
Great show guys! The models for infinity rock, I hope they make the Tikbalang soon!
I love have they changed things from once they started with doing only one set at a time. Those Briscards can be used for so many armies.
Ariadna gets some great looking models. Kinda wish I’d chosen them to start with 😛
Infinity models are so amazing, i just struggle with painting them as I can’t quite do em justice.
Those briscards are excellent
Loving the modern look Infinity models 🙂 Not everyone in the future can be sleek plastic and good looking rear-ends 😉 The pearlescent bike was beautiful though.
But wow, blown away by the Bolt Action box! Really interesting hearing about the platoon structure as well for a more ‘casual’ force. Can’t wait to see Warren go crazy on bolt-action stug lists 😉
I actually would like to give warren some context on the historical aspect, if you read this 🙂
A good comparison, would be if there was a wargame of computers. Playing at a certain “era” with restrictions, makes old computers which people might have a soft-spot for able to “fight” on a level playing field.
One very cool british tank of the war was the Matilda II. A really great tank, which was weak because it couldn’t be up-gunned or up-armoured effectively. End war, even mid-war it was easy pickings. You couldn’t make a late war army with them, because they were withdrawn from service and had become a deathtrap.
Early war though, they were known as “queen of the desert”.
In the early war, they were a very good combination of armour and firepower which made them very difficult to deal with. As a fan of that tank, I would love to play against forces that it was likely to come up against. A tiger I would simply eat it from 1000 metres away in one shot!
Love the bolt action kit. It’s a great idea to include so many arms and heads, some of the best GW kit is the stuff that includes such extras (rare as it is for GW).
