Warmachine: Tactics Coming To PC & Mac Via Kickstarter
June 27, 2013 by brennon
This one has jumped out of the aether on us! Privateer Press and WhiteMoon Dreams have teamed up to bring us a Warmachine computer game for both PC and Mac. Check out the teaser trailer above...
From the Press Release...
"WARMACHINE: Tactics will include a single-player campaign and feature synchronous and asynchronous online multi-player play. The game will launch with two playable factions—Cygnar and Khador. A stretch goal for the Kickstarter campaign, if met, would add Cryx and the Protectorate of Menoth to the game’s launch. WARMACHINE: Tactics will also be expanded with downloadable content."
It sounds like an exciting prospect and I can't wait to see more of the game in action. Turn based is perfect for the PC and graphically it's looking top notch too. It's a bit of a far cry from the more action packed one we saw a year or so ago.
Headbutting Warjacks, powerful casters and more. This could be fantastic and I certainly think Privateer Press have the intellectual property to make video and computer games work in their world.
What do you think?
pretty excited for this however i can’t help but feel the companies don’t really need a kickstarter to produce this…. still I’ll back it I’d love a lil Russian fella throwing ice at people 😀
I have to say I have the same feeling. I can see where they are coming from when they say ‘let the fans help shape the game’ but surely that could have been done through play testing and extensive feedback from the designers and PP?
But, it will be interesting to see where this goes and it LOOKS like a good game.

See, I dunno… the budget for the average video game is orders of magnitude higher than a tabletop game, so I can see why they’d want to do it this way. If nothing else, it negates the risk of throwing a massive stack of money at something and then not making a return for whatever reason.
At the end of the day, if people are willing to pay for it as a Kickstarter, I can’t see any reason why they wouldn’t do it!
but with it being on the pc it can be got off the ground with the basics, and add other factions, units and such later, as to the budget you get what you pay for really if people want to see the Iron kingdoms in supper high def amazing mode they need to get behind the game and show that they want it, and as a fan its one of those shut up and take my money moments.
It just doesn’t negate risk, it presents opportunity. Shadowrun Returns probably could have been funded through traditional channels. Other retro games have proven there is a market for that sort of thing and the timing was right. But there’s no way Harebrained would have gotten the same large amount of seed money from a publisher that they got from the fans, and they would’ve had to submit their work for constant publisher approval (and interference). Going Kickstarter is the best way to get a game like this off the ground running and with your own studio in charge rather than… Read more »
cant wait to see what happens with this from that trailer im thinking we’ll be seeing turn based strategy, a build your own warcaster and tons of epic metal mashing death!
Now something to hope for would be that PP have it so that when you complete the game you can port your warcaster over in to your games of Warmachine via the War Room app, but we can only do but dream… 🙂

Whow, that kind of connection would be really cool. Nice idea!
“dear PP take my wallet and use it wisely….”
Well as much as PP have exploded onto the scene the last few years people have to remember they are still a small company to finance a PC game without going through publishers _ if you read the full “insider” by Matt Wilson on teh PP home page you can see they tried this but the publishers aren’t taking risks.
By going this route they take these hurdles out the way and can get the game we want out.
I cant wait and will be one of the kick starters I will be backing.
ah i hadn’t spotted that thanks Kevin explains a lot including the death of some of the other game titles i was looking forward too i will show this to other people i game with to convince more to back it… i was anyway but now i’m tempted to throw more in as i really want to see this game made a reality
Huge props for PP taking the next step to slapping some humility in to GW 😀
All of a sudden I’m more interested in Warmachine.
Designers of other table-top game systems take note…
I know I’ll be backing. These independent game publishers need community support and the industry at large has seen many layoffs these past months.
I could pick this up if this is going to be sold in game stores. Also notice that that Cygnar caster is totaly new so I hope we get model made from her. There can never be too many female casters.
my money is on a create your own caster type of game
I agree. It’s like all the Jedi games so you can Taylor them how you want and meet actual in game characters without affecting the IK world so to speak.
Here’s hoping for a merc option or Kayazy warcaster for the Motherland
