Warmachine Unboxing: Two Player Battle Box – Cygnar vs Cryx
September 6, 2016 by dignity
Today we're opening up the Mark III Warmachine Two Player Battle box from Privateer Press.
It's been a few weeks now since Mark III released and we're ever excited to get stuck into the new tactics and updated factions, in this battlebox you will be faced with the Cygnar vs Cryx. Each faction has their strengths and their weaknesses so you'll have to figure out what's best suited in your tactics.
As John mentions in the video, these models are a little tricky to put together with no guidelines however the models look great as they're built and once painted, they'll be something to show off for sure!
Which faction will you choose?
Love the way they extended the coloured plastic to the units as well as the battle box stuff. (yes, by the way Justin, Agatta (spelling ??) wasv the warcaster in the battle box … she is one of my favourite Cryx models)
Oh and I didn’t say first … I don’t roll that way =)
This is a really nice boxed set and pretty good value, all things considered. I’m not sure how the plastic compares to what I’ve seen in the Unleashed adventurer’s kit, but if it is at least as sharp then it will be good enough for my needs.. and I REALLY like the fact they have swapped the starting factions around so that if you have the previous two player box you now have four armies.
I’ll have to pick this one up as soon as I build an extension for my hobby closet! The darned thing is full again!
The new plastics don’t seem very good. My local had opened several of the new starter boxes with the new plastic and they were very disappointing. The staff complained that they were a pain in the ass to put together. Multiple pieces were warped. Huge chunks of plastic had to be removed to get them to fit properly, and many people commented on a noticeable drop in overall detail. Holding them in my hands they looked like something you would find at the bottom of a cereal box. This is a real shame as their metal figures are wonderful, and… Read more »
Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I will just wait to see if they do any of the new casters (etc) in metal!
That’s very good looking boxes set.
I will say that I can tell they have talented sculptors over at PP. But I just can’t get behind the look of their Jacks. I love big stompy robots but their legs are generally way too small for the rest of the model. I just can’t like them since they seem so wrong. Their Light Jacks are okay for the most part but they still look odd. They have talented people doing the rest of the models too. There is much skill in them but they are more miss then hit with me. And I want to like them… Read more »
I doubt the aesthetics of the Jacks are ever going to change radically from what you are currently seeing (i.e. relatively top heavy, small legs). I don’t quite know how it started out that way (the Jack character design), but I’m pretty sure if you made them more lean and “realistic” then you’d greatly upset a large portion of the current player base (probably on par with CB saying that the anime look of Infinity would be got rid of). There certainly is a bit of hit and miss when it comes to PP stuff, but I think their biggest… Read more »
I like that they mixed it up and are using Cygnar/Cryx this time (since they used Protectorate/Khador last time).
PP minis wouldn’t be PP minis without the unfortunate vent locations *side-eye at the Khador heavy Jack kit*
Wait a minute … Justin mentioned “Firefly” … and John didn’t get visions of a certain WW2 tank ?
😉
some great figures.
Ive been apprehensive about delving into the new edition, mainly because I dont like change, but this video has really got me changing my thinking about it. I’ll need to take the plunge eventually, and Im looking forward to it.
I have loved Privateer from the beginning. The game, fluff and usually the models.
I’m having a hard time keeping my “fanboy” status with this choice in plastics though. You guys are too kind with regards to the vents and it was easy to see the spears on the Jacks were almost broken strait out of the box. As far as starter boxes go, the models are pushing on fail in my book. Adding the tokens and having the double sided mat, might make it a bearable purchase for new players though.
Can’t say I’m impressed by the quality shown there. A lot of the stuff when being handled from the plastic bags look like it had been twisted and snapped off a larger sprue, spears, lances and thin parts were warped and whitening near areas about to break (spear tip at video time 13:37)….
