Orgoth & Cygnar Core Army Starters Revealed For Warmachine MKIV
August 2, 2022 by brennon
Privateer Press has been showing off more of the miniatures that you'll be able to pick up once Warmachine MKIV launches later this year in October. Leading the way are going to be the Orgoth and Cygnar with Core Army Starters.
Orgoth Sea Raiders // Warmachine
The Orgoth Sea Raiders set is focused around Kishtaar, The Howling Silence and two customisable Warjacks. There are also a couple of light infantry units with command attachments and a few more special options to round things out.
Here is what you get miniature-wise within the set...
Orgoth Sea Raiders - Miniatures // Warmachine
This breaks down as...
- 1 Kishtaar, the Howling Silence Warcaster
- 1 Jackal Light Warjack (4x Head 8x Arm/Weapon options)
- 1 Tyrant Heavy Warjack (4x Head 8x Arm/Weapon options)
- 1 Assault Reavers Unit (5 models)
- 1 Strike Reavers Unit (5 models)
- 2 Reaver Standard Bearer
- 1 Ulkor Barrager Unit (3 models)
- 1 Warwitch Coven Unit (3 models)
- 1 Orgoth Commander Solo
- 30 Magnets
The important thing to note here is that you also get the magnets to do all of your customisation. The armies are designed to get you going with fifty-point games but there is enough in the set to get you all the way up to sixty-six points depending on Warjack configurations. And, as mentioned last week, all of the miniatures are 3D printed resin.
Cygnar Storm Legion
Going up against the Orgoth, we have the valiant Cygnar Storm Legion who are trying to hold back the tide of chaos.
Cygnar Storm Legion // Warmachine
This set focuses on Captain Athena di Baro and once again features two customisable Warjacks. You also get two Cygnar-focused infantry units, the Tempest Thunderers and options like the Arcane Mechaniks and Legionnaires Officer.
Here is what you get inside the set...

Again, all 3D printed resin and with the magnets to do a lot of customisation when it comes to building up your force. This set offers up to sixty-three points worth of miniatures with all of the various options. Each of these forces comes in at $199.99 from Privateer Press which works out at about £160 when converted.
So, do you think that you could find yourself snapping up these new Core Army Starters to get you going with Warmachine MKIV?

The move to industrial 3d printing hasn’t prompted Privateer to get rid of the duplicate sculpts then.
That does seem mighty cheap of them, but not unexpected on past form
Yeah. I have a ton of WM minis and 3×3 dupes in a 10 man unit was always disappointing. It’s a barrier to sales, and one they ought to look at for the relaunch.
The only reason they do it is to get more product out and into the stores comparatively quickly, since they’re still a small operation compared to a company like Gee Dubs and the overly-detailed steampunk look is still their trademark, making it a real pain in the arse to get lots of unique sculpts into a box or engineer posability into them and get them to market faster. Can’t deny though that it can be a bit of a drag but I’ve learned to live with it
While I like the Iron Kingdom setting, Privateer Press isnt a company I trust not to screw up a good thing and I shy away from investing hobby time into one of their games.
I have doubts Warmachine will go anywhere the way they are setting things up.
Over all those are good looking sculpts.
Sorry, I like the ability to customise the ‘jacks, but the $200 price tag breaks the deal, especially since no mention/price of an actual printed rulebook is made. I started playing Warmachine when the 4 to 6 figure starter boxes were all there was to use and liked it that way. Skirmish! Quick, down and dirty. Then troops and the big boys came and with them tournament-think (meta) and that just ruined the game for me with the Pokedigimon “gotta have ’em all” mentality. Friendly games went down the toilet, imo. I still have some Khador hiding in my piles… Read more »
I thought Warmachine was steampunk fantasy? These do not look fantasy at all, they look Sci-Fi to me. Way way too much sci-fi and not enough fantasy as far as I am concerned. Looks like everyone is wearing power armor. Steam punk theme, nope. Magitech futuristic, yep. Granted I have been gone from the game for a long time, but what happened to the trenchers, the WWI look for the “higher tech”. Way to lose your cool style. Sorry, if GWs starter boxes aren’t worth their price tags, then charging 200 US for one force isn’t going to bring me… Read more »
And it looks like $200 doesn’t even get you to the 75 pt (Mk3 tourny standard size) threshold, which seems pretty terrible.
Here are some Picks of the 3D parts. Honestly some of the parts do not look great at all.

They look “okish” to me (at least we’re not seeing any raster lines on the smooth surfaces). On quality they look to be akin to injection moulded hard plastic pieces rather than a more “resin” finish. I wonder how it’s going to work (as this is exactly what 4Ground were attempting to do with their Fabled Realms miniatures. Granted we’re a few years down the road since then (and the technology for the 3D printers and the size of the printer beds have increased greatly). But 4Ground DID run into some issues (like the resin curing in the bottles while… Read more »
They’re not bad. More dynamic poses seems a positive. A shame the arms are rigid rather than ball and socket for some poseability.
They do look like they need a lot of cleanup and the spear’s wonky. It’s not cataclysmic though.
Thing is, they’ll need to price these at the high end for ROI and.. well… they’re not.
I’ve played MK2/MK3 and like the miniatures I have… despite some of metals being an absolute bitch to build (I’m looking at you Cylena Raefyll and Nyss Hunters with your thin elven arms that are a pain to pin)… But I’m not interested in MK4. I only played with a friend… not in tournaments… so need to upgrade… And that price tag for a starter seems high to me. Admittedly I’ve spent a lot on the game over the years, but the old starters with two small armies in a box were better value! And the army boxes were good.… Read more »
they look darn good figures for games.
So it’s infantrymachine again, given the force composition…and with duplicate 3D sculpts, wow.
I’m always going to love the Warmachine setting and more “grounded” figures like the good old trenchers, but this is…confusing. The prices do seem about on point for what most things in the hobby market are currently going for, but it seems odd that they seem to now be trying to use the multi-cortex/multi-weapon system that was introduced for Warcaster in the Warmachine setting. Customization isn’t bad, but it seems like an odd choice when MK1-3 were built around pre-built warjack layouts, and it seems to suggest that ALL warjacks would need to be overhauled to accomodate this new mechanic,… Read more »
