Any advice on which electric drills to buy? I hate drilling pin holes in to metal models and often think about buying an electric one but I am scared. I stab myself enough with a pin vice. I’m afraid of buying something too heavy to use safely one handed, or too powerful and fast for drilling something small I’m holding, or too big to leave on my already cluttered work station. I’m also concerned about accidentally buying one that’s too big to hold 1mm bits. I know nothing about power tools, but the one you use in this video looks… Read more »
Advice #1: don’t buy a drill 🙂 The one I am using is actually an electric screwdriver. I find that it has slower settings than regular electric drills, which means you can control the speed a lot better. I usually start drilling very slowly (as you do with a pin vice) and speed up once I can feel that the drillbit grips into the material. I think mine is a Bosch. Dremmel is the name I keep hearing. Would a screwdriver take normal drill bits, or would I have to buy special ones?
