I know not everybody was a fan of the old 3.0 / 3.5 IKRPG books but I ran several long campaigns with that system and enjoyed it immensely. At first I was quite apprehensive of them moving away from a licensed system I was familiar with but the more I read about this, the more excited I am try give it a try. Roll on August!
A lot of fond memories of campaigns with the previous system too, so here’s to making some more with the new book.
It should be a neat book and it should handle the setting a lot better than the old d20 books did. However I’m not fond of the restrictive template character creation. It just seems limiting on player choices and customizability. However it appears I will be able to play my warcraster after all, and the book is going to be a full color fluff fest, so I look forward to this.
The announcement was misleading on tabletopgamingnews.com, I thought the book was released, but no, it just got announced.
I found the IK stuff for 3.5 to be unnecessarily complex and cumbersome, though I am a huge fan of Warmahordes and the IK setting in general. Unfortunately, in the time between then and now, Paizo has developed a lot of the same sort of stuff for their splat books that works excellently with Pathfinder and really blows the original IK d20 stuff out of the water. That means, firmly entrenched in Pathfinder, getting my group(s) to play even a one-off with this will be virtually impossible. I’ll still buy it, though. I love the Iron Kingdoms setting, but 3.0/3.5 did not feel like the right system for it. I always thought it needed its own custom rule set to represent the awesome elements that were created for this setting.
