Grab The Hordes & Warmachine Rules For Free
August 21, 2015 by brennon
The rules for both Hordes and Warmachine are Now Free from Privateer Press. Copies of the core rules are available for both versions of their game with the faction specific books still available to buy online...
These are full on rulebooks for you to download with everything you could need in them. All you have to do is pop these onto a mobile device and you'll have them in your pocket for those inevitable rules disputes that seem to pop up during Warmahordes games.
On top of that there has been a new Errata Document made available which people have been pouring over most of yesterday and today.
Will you be checking out more Warmahordes?

Nice… 3rd edition is coming… :))
Not for a while, I’d wager. They just put out a big errata document. This is probably the easiest way to put out a fully corrected rulebook.
Yeah, I am pretty sure we will see a Mk III sooner rather then later.
The faq/erratta document is only “big” because it is the same document recycled, but with new stuff added, since the release ok Mk II.
Ooh how exciting, always fancied a proper look at these.
Could be edition 3 is on the way or could be that we’re starting to see a new trend in free ebook main rules (which I hope to think is true). Infinity free download, most of the mantic games free pdfs, the latest offering from GW also free to download. Maybe, just maybe the games companies have realised that by giving the rules away free it gets people interested and playing the game, themselves and a friend both pick up a starter box and away they go. If someone really gets into the game they’ll buy the hardcopy at some… Read more »
It’s been industry standard for a while. GW and PP were among the few who didn’t do it.
Yah it’s hard to say it’s industry standard when the two big hitters in that industry don’t practice it. But as of recent we all know that has changed so I guess it is industry standard and I hope it stays that way. I for one am one of the many that got into a game and bought it’s mini’s after having a glance at a free PDF of the rules. So it does help with sales.
I completely agree with you. I think it is catch up thing. Almost all games are having free downloads now – warzone, infinity, wolfsung, carnivale (?), batman, mantic stuff ( or deadly cheap to download) Aos from GW, Pulp just name a few. I think soon almost every one a part from one man comany like EvilBear or Wasteman, will at some point release free rules. I wonder about historical games like FoW and Battlefront Kursk or all napoleonic ( but Fire and sword was free to download at some point I remember) – they have hardcore gamers and dont… Read more »
Historical gaming is a little different as the rules can’t be tied to a specific line of minis. Whilst Battlefront do their own line of 15mm WW2 minis designed specifically for FoW, they are far from the only company who do them and they can’t claim them as their intellectual property. In the non-historicals market, the rules primarily exist to sell a line of in-house minis that are IP protected. Giving the rules away for free means people can try them out and if they like them, start buying the minis. If BF gave away the FoW rules for free,… Read more »
That makes complete sense as BF was another company I first thought was out of the free rules gang. No wonder they charge for the rules, as it can be there only source of income if people so inclined to buy the mini’s elsewhere.
Coming soon, Warmachine 3rd edition will be called ‘Age of Cygnar’
it will now be a 4 page document and players may throw cryx models against floor to get bonus to hit!. It will allow “Whatever you want” in your lists. Releases rule set for soft scores in Steamroller
It’s nice that they did this. I might have both already as physical copies (which I personally prefer) but maybe it will help with getting more players.
It certainly does help because you do not have to damage your physical copies while looking up some rules etc.
