Russian Ships & More Take To Warlord Games’ Black Seas
June 29, 2022 by brennon
Warlord Games has been adding even more vessels to their Black Seas collection over the last couple of days. In addition to what we saw last week, we also have a whole host of Russian ships and two new squadrons as well.

Leading the way, we have the heavily armed Blagodat. That is a seriously impressive amount of guns running down both sides of this ship! The idea is that this was probably based on the Spanish Santisima Trinidad with its 130 guns! A 1st Ship-Of-The-Line.
Next up, the Russians can call on the St. Pavel when looking to dominate the seas of 18th and 19th Century Europe.
St Pavel // Black Seas
The St. Pavel is a 2nd Rate Ship-Of-The-Line that was built to be part of the Black Sea fleet. She saw a lot of action in the Mediterranean and was used to capture plenty of coastal towns and fortifications from Russia's enemies.
Moving on, we have the Azov that has also found a home on the tabletop alongside these notable ships.
Azov // Black Seas
Armed with seventy-four guns, both twenty-four pdrs and thirty-six pdrs, this was considered the finest ship in the Russian Navy for a time. She played a role in the Battle Of Navarino in 1827 but unfortunately, after only four years in service, she was left to rot. An ignoble end for such a fine fighting vessel.
New Black Seas Squadrons
In addition to the named Russian ships, we also have two new packs with an assortment of new ships for you to consider using with your own fleet.
"Razeed" 3rd Rate & 4th Rate // Black Seas
The first set looks at the "Razeed" 3rd Rate & 4th Rate ships that can be used in your games. These ships went through the process of being "Razeed" where portions of the ship were cut down and removed so that they would be more stable in rough seas and also quicker to boot. Whilst many people classed these as frigates, they actually performed better than most actual frigates of the age.
Capping things off, we also have the 6th Rate Squadron that has been Battened Down as they rush into some rough seas.
6th Rate Squadron (Battened Down) // Black Seas
This set of 6th Rate ships had between twenty and twenty-eight guns on a single deck. They couldn't take on many larger ships by themselves but they could easily work together or be used where huge ships just couldn't go. In the form you see here, all the hatches have been closed up alongside the hull and I imagine most of the equipment on board has been tied down. With a storm coming, you didn't want the ship taking on water!
I think these would be fun for a scenario or two. Maybe half of the board is experiencing a storm and these ships need to be rescued before they get poached by a nearby foe?
Are you going to be snapping up these new ships?

Some great additions to “the windy boat game”, the Razeed 3rd and 4th rates look great and certainly useful for naval games
