Round Breakdown: SPQR
July 26, 2019 by dignity
Charlie from Warlord Games takes Gerry through a round of their new fast-paced ancient Mediterranean skirmish warband game SPQR.
Purchase SPQR at the OnTableTop Store
SPQR is designed to scale flexibly from small skirmish size to large warbands of Greek and Roman warriors.
You will also take on heroes with their own individual progression systems which can boost themselves or their armies.
Do you prefer a handful of heroes or more Macedonians than you can shake a Sarissa at?

Not sure I understand the reasoning behind slings geing slower to use than bows
anything that reduces the effectiveness of the balaeric slingers I’m all for. But you’re right it doesn’t make sense for anything other than game balance.
Having not used either and no expert I looked it up on the internet and the man said the bow has a faster fire rate than the sling. Though the idea of 2 shots a round per model with lethal 1 I agree with game balance. Also no one wants to play against that man who turns up with an army of slinger, literal alpha strike.
Looks like a great game to play.
Still not convinced about this game
Agreed. Skimming the rulebook and watching some battle reports just makes me wish Studio Tomahawk would get off their butts and make an ancients expansion.
they’re already making it, it’s one of several and the closest to completion currently. Or check out clash of spears later this year
Just finished watching, I think i might jump in on this
I think Gerry’s hero should be nicknamed C-squared… Enjoyed the banter, a good sign of a fun game.
interesting play-thru. enjoyed it enough to pique my curiosity, but not enough to want the rules……. yet!
Still not convinced, especially with length of combat, could we see a larger battle using a horde army against elite including mounted troops.
Looks fun, which is good, cos i’ve got a copy on the way!
Looks an awesome game. Very interested.
Enjoyed the play through. Got a copy of the rules but haven’t even read them yet! Based on this I think I’ll probably give SPQR a go. Hmmmm now which army shall I paint up?
Fantastic walk through . My rule book has been ordered from On Table Top . Now checking I have enough dice . P.S Love the fez look from this week ender . Should be compulsory wear for all back stagers.
Download the FAQ’s from Warlord as they gave changed as lot of the combat rules that are shown in the original rulebook
