The Dacians & Sarmatians Arrive In Warlord Games’ SPQR
March 2, 2020 by brennon
Warlord Games has now added a bunch of new models into the mix for SPQR. If you're looking to play out a skirmishing campaign with the Dacians & Sarmatians then you now have an option with plenty of core elements to build your force.
Build Your SPQR Warband @ Store.OnTableTop
At the head of this particular release, we have the Dacian Nobles. These fellows are the glorious warriors that could be used to build your force and act as the figurehead as you charge into battle. You could also use these more heavily armoured warriors as part of your leader's retinue if you liked. You get a bunch of different characters in various poses and with an array of weapons.
You can then start to build up the core of your force with the use of some extra boxes like the Dacian Tribesmen With Javelins...
...and the Sarmatian Horse Archers. This gives you a band of harassing skirmishing units which can really be a thorn in the side of your enemies. You could imagine these javelin and bow armed troops rushing around the flanks of your enemy, picking at them and wearing weary soldiers down.
If you are looking for something a little heavier then you also have the Dacian Scorpio Team which could be good at forcing your enemies into cover. I love the idea of pinning the enemy down with this Scorpio and then rushing around their hiding place with these additional troops.
You could get a really mobile warband out of these releases and I'm sure there is plenty more you could throw into the mix too. If you're still playing a bit of SPQR, this could be a fun option for you to check out on the tabletop.
Are you going to be snapping up these releases for yourself?

Some useful sets here that’s for sure. I’m not normally one to criticise much but there is something not right about the horses in that set of horse archers. They have some serious anatomical issues. The saddle front arch (gullet) should sit at a horse’s wither, the join between the top of the shoulders, just behind the start of the neck. There is a huge gap here making the saddle seem like it is set too far back, or the neck is set too far forward. They look a bit like camels to me. Pity really as this could be… Read more »
Yup, there’s no way of saving those horses. The sculpts from Warlord have had some serious quality issues in the past couple of years (in posing and proportions). But even tho these are older metal sculpts they should have taken the opportunity to resculpt those horses. Not sure if it’s the sheer amount of stuff they are putting out or not (or if there’s no-one there willing to say “it’s not good enough”). But these days I always try to see the minis from Warlord in the flesh before I buy. But I foresee not many of those Samartian Horse… Read more »
