Let’s Play: Gates of Antares Battle Report – Algoryn Vs Boromites
September 17, 2016 by dignity
We're battling it out in a Battle Report where the Algoryn are facing off against the Boromites in Beyond The Gates Of Antares by Warlord Games.
The two sides are commanded by Justin, as the Algoryn, and John, as the Boromites, while Chez from Warlord Games stands watch as the Games Master to make sure we're on target with the mechanics, guiding us through the game.
If you have any tactical thoughts on how to play either of these factions drop them in the comments below.
Who do you think is going to come out on top?

very happy to see this here 🙂
Exactly what I felt! I’ve been really looking forward to this 😀
It”s the Weekend !! ?! ??
I know – I saw the Vlog… Seevy’all tomorrow for a Happy Sunday.
In the meantime it’s time to catch up with some Infinity Nomad packs…
I like the look of this game. John was so lucky to pass so many morale roles, could have very easily been a different outcome.
The board looked so cool, very colourful and alien world-ish. Perfect.
What a battle!
Very nice report, guys! I love this game, and the battle was intense ^_^
John, you’ve got the strongest leader team of the weekend! Well done, very good tactical game.
BoW, you’ve made a awesome table, so GoA style. Soooo Good!
Thanks guys!
Great battle guys.
For me too abstract, also do not like that the defender is choosing who got hit. Breaks immersion. Imagine you are the squad leader somewhere in the far future. You see enemy charging, with some beasty hand to hand unit in front. You order your troops to mow down charging front line. Your troops instead of proceeding with order, they scream to enemy if they can shoot their front line, enemy screams back at your troops ‘no you have to aim at each of us same number of times’. Of course your troops fulfill enemy request and you facepalm.
I agree with this. instead of rolling a 1 allowing shooting player to allocate. It could instead cause an instant death no save allowed. A “headshot” if you will.
Isn’t this exactly how wound allocation in 40k works? All units must be allocated a hit, if there aren’t enough the defender chooses. It was up through 5th edition at least, I didn’t really get into 6th or 7th.
It seems to be a reasonably fair way of allocating hits to me.
Just a question when the mining squad took the reaction to start a firefight, should that have meant they have to spend their order dice?
correct
Wow. That overseer was tremendous! My Freeborn want a Boromite Overseer. 😀
It’s about bloody time. How long ago did you do the live blog where those armies were painted? :p
Have toyed with trying out the free download version of the rules they did a while back, with what ever minis I could find to proxy Antares minis for.
I just got my copy of the Bolt Action Version 2 rules, so I think that will be taking my time instead.
Nice to see Antares played out on a fun table with great looking minis.
Great game nice board . I thought when you are pinned your stat numbers change making the unit easier to hit. So you don’t want five or six pins on you.with so many pins some of John’s unit should’ve been dead sooner
lot of pins usually cause the opposite, representing the inability of the unit to act effectively and actually hit the ground to take more cover (down order).
I absolutely love the board. That was a fantastic game, probably one of the best “Lets Play” videos so far.
Great battle report. It was really interesting because I knew that the game is out there but nothing else. It looks decent.
Great report I love this game. Sometimes we screw it up as switch back and forth between it and BA all the time but we only play for fun.
One question at about 1:12:00 when the Boromite command squad charged did you give it the modifiers for charging?
Good Battle report as in the rules were well explained and got a great sense of how the games plays. But… I hated the table layout, looks like someone just grabbed an armful of random terrain and dropped it on table and said .. “there you go, an alien world”. White bases on mini’s jarred me out of the game. With the lack of close camera it just looked like you were just moving white pieces around board. Go no sense of what the armies looked like and their unique styles. But as a demonstration on the basics of the… Read more »
Fun battle Report and nice looking Terrain guys!
Re darkiss, Why their is no arguing that it is quite similar to BA once you start playing it actually plays a lot different. The d10 alone is a big change. Pins come and go a little differently. While the lineage is clear to see the child stands on it’s own feet. browse the net for a Ghar game and you really see the differences. Vehicles are much easier to kill. This was a concern of ours at first as well. The best I can say after playing many games of both is that they just feel different. With the… Read more »
Can you shoot at the drones? Even if they are “small” targets, seems like they would be viable targets.
Re blaryn
Shooting drones, the drones used in this games are buddy drones and can only be hit on a lucky hit, which is a roll of 1(natural). Other types of Drones can be targeted normally but buddy drones can only be hit with lucky hits.
@tibour Thanks for the input. What size armies do you and your club generally play? I have loved the look of the Boromites since I first saw them.
Glad to see a GOA Lets Play. I’ve had the starter set sitting on the shelf for a while. It’s finally given me the inspiration to get glueing and get some games in!
@darkiss I have about 2K+ of Ghar that I can play as rebel or regular, 1k of Boromite that is just primed and about 2K of Concord. Another club member has about 3K+ Concord and yet another has about 2k Algoryn. At the moment is only the 3 of us with armies but a few of the others are starting to talk about taking the plunge. We tend to play large multi player games at our weekly club night and GOA plays very nicely in this format.
as to regular play 1k to 1500 is a very nice game that can be done in about 2hours 2k in about 3 hours. You might have to add an hour when you first start out just to get used to things.
Thanks Lads. love this game and i need to play more of it. cheers
oh and I need to finish painting my army .Sadly nothing new there
