March 1, 2017 by crew
MrStainless001, also known as Sam, takes us through a short introduction to just what Total War: Warhammer is and his plans for a video series here on Beasts Of War exploring the game and playing as its many races.
Most of you will be familiar with the Warhammer Fantasy Battles setting but maybe not the Total War series itself. Sam explains just what it's all about and how it might even help improve your skills as a tabletop general.
Keep an eye out for more videos soon and don't forget to check out his Youtube Channel, MrStainless001, for more videos on all manner of other video games.
What faction do you play as in Total War: Warhammer?

Have the game installed, but I haven’t tried playing it yet.
It is quite a daunting game to begin with, when I have never even touched a total war game before.
Just hope they will implement the Lizardmen soon, but they usually get shunted last in the list of factions.
The Empire is one of the easier races to play as they work like you’d expect humans to work, dwarves are also good in that respect as they batter the enemy with gunfire then finish them off in hand to hand
Dwarves are a great faction to start out with, strong units and a solid starting location.
CA (The developers) have said that they include all major races at some point. The series will be a trilogy, with 3 games in the Warhammer universe. And they can all be combined to create a big super campaign, with a giant map, and all the races. Right now, most of the community is guessing that the 4 big races included in the 2nd game will be High Elf, Dark Elf, Lizardmen and 1 other (Either Daemons of Chaos or Skaven). So combining that game, with the first game and you have a huge campaign. Not to mention when the… Read more »
Great Game. Currently struggling with the empire. Have tried VC with no luck. Completed the Dwarf and O&G. So much more to go. Great game. Did I say that yet?
I am a long term fan of the Total War Series, I got into the series with the Original Shogun game, which was actually based on the MB Shogun Board Game (so to say it was the first one based on a unique IP is technically wrong). I played Warhammer FB in the old days, but for me this edition of the total war series just leaves me totally cold. The reason being is that it is just another fantasy game amongst the myriad of fantasy games. I understand why CA did this it’s basically down to making money, however… Read more »
I would disagree my good man, so CA themselves have stated that this is the first time they have created one of their titles based on an original IP. As a fellow long term fan of TW who equally began playing from the start there was no reference of the MB Shogun Game, it may have drawn inspiration but it wasn’t a video game adaptation. I would equally disagree that CA are making this title simply for money, is money important for a game dev? Absolutely. However I think its important for CA to take the series in different directions… Read more »
Looking forward to this tend to play the dwarfs but looking forward to getting the high elves with any luck.
High Elves could be really cool, the Wood Elves are fun to play as but pretty tricky, you have to keep remembering to protect the Great Tree.
Needless to say I’ve forgotten a couple of times and pesky beastmen have ravaged it…
You have some good points about the reasons why tabletop gamers could learn something about the strategy. Another reason is i get inspired to paint my own figures. I started painting a couple of units of vampire counts after I campaign as Vlad von Carstain. The best thing about the Total warhammer, compared to some of the other total war games for me is the big difference between the factions compared to some of the old games. I’ve think my favorite faction is the dwarfs. Slow but tough, and not with that many warriors. I think my most glorious victory… Read more »
I really like the Dwarves, their the faction I started out with in the game, really easy to pick up. I’ve yet to campaign as the Undead, I’ll have to get over my distaste for them before I can command their armies 🙂
I am looking forward to your post very much…..love this game….
Glad to hear that! 🙂 Looking forward to bringing you more videos!
Just under 2 days left on the monthly Humble pack that includes this, as well as other games, for $12:

Just started playing this …lots of fun
It’s so much fun, I’ve put quite a few hours into each of the TW games
a great game will be watch this for sure.
I have around 300 hours logged on this game, and am looking to rack up more, as my beloved Bretonnians are now playable. I’d say that my favorite campaign thus far has been the Crooked Moon campaign. While Bretonnia is the faction that lured me over to Fantasy from 40K, night goblins quickly became a close second.
I just went past 300 hours 😀 The crooked moon is a really fun campaign, never thought I would enjoy the gobbos so much
I have played several of the TW games and I like some more than others. I like the warhammer variant a bit more than the others because it is more diverse than the others. Each faction plays differently than the other making it great fun. This also gives me the change of playing the armies that I didn’t play on the table. I am currently playing the Wood Elves and still have to start with Bretonnia. I am curious what they will do with the High Elves as it was the race I played on the table and what they… Read more »
This looks good, but I see no mention of my fave faction of the Druchii/Dark Elves. Still to come I hope.
And I hope they will not perpetuate the utter BLASPHEMY of AoS that had them joining with the goody-goody forces of “order”. (–I totally reject this, yech!)
Anyway, very happy to see something set in the good ol’ Old World and no Sigmarines in sight, LOL!
All major Warhammer races will be included in the game at some point. Has been confirmed to be the goal of CA.
I bought the game. Now I only need a new job to get a new computer to actually play it. I wonder how they would implement other elves and Lizard men as they are on completely different continents in the old world.
