Warhammer Tolls The Bell For End Times: Thanquol!
January 9, 2015 by brennon
Games Workshop's next Warhammer Fantasy End Times Book is now up for pre-order, End Times: Thanquol and with that comes the Grey Seer himself atop his mutated mount, Boneripper...
Once again you'll be getting a rather big monster for your Skaven horde when it comes to the End Times with Boneripper locked and loaded with enough warpfire throwers to melt down an entire unit of knights into slag. There's also the alternative version which is fixed for melee combat and a whole bunch of misty warpstone fists! Atop the beast is Grey Seer Thanquol himself looking decidedly more lordly than he has in the past and no less nefarious.
As well as the miniature there is the End Times Book which is once again a slipcase collection with both a rules and fluff based book for you to absorb while you're playing. There's also the obligatory Limited Edition.
Last but not least there are some special Skaven Dice if you fancy rolling around some very, very, very good looking dice!
Is Skaven the army for you?

So lizardman action confirmed.
Read the comments on the model in the other thread – I am ambivalent, but Thanquol has become a bit of a generic grey seer.
Also now we have better picture what is that rat trying to do with the warpstone to the rat in from of him? :O
@Brennon it appear you have broken the shiny new GW website. I just errors trying to load their site. What a wonder idea it was to do these limited release, oh and clearly the millions spent on the web site is proving a business master stroke 😛
that looks so much better with the warpstone fists 🙂
looks great with the new head too 🙂
Damn the Dice are gone already!?! Disappointed..
Love the model at first glance. Hate it when you realise it’s plastic and yet it’s another lazy mono-pose model. But would love a chance to paint it up.
Make it in resin if you’re not going to bother doing anything decent with plastic. No scope for individuality. Not even the chance to allow the arms to be positioned. Even the head … the HEAD… is stuck to the same angle.
I am not fond at this one. Thanquol looks ok but Boneripper looks weird with his oversized body with small head.
of course its oversized, it’s like a patchwork of “other things” muscle and flesh sowed together, with organs and all sorts inside.
I just get home from work… go to beasts of war to relax and read the news… see Thanquol book went live today… go to buy it… SOLD OUT…. no longer relaxed…. sigh.
wait….ok only the super limited version is sold out… still… sigh.
Did GW magnetize the arms and heads? Looks like the same figure with different items stuck on. I like the cannon wielding version better, but to be honest I think the colorscheme is ruining the censor fist version. It’s too bright, would have benefited from a grittier scheme.
Massive, mutated monster with a little guy riding on its shoulders. Isn’t that basically the same as Glottkin? Is there a shortage of ideas in the GW design department?
Agreed, but to be fair erastus that would be one duplicate in the last 20 or so releases they’ve rolled out this year.
Aye, it does have that same going for it. It’s like they used most of steam when it comes to End of Times releases to undead (expesially Nagash) and to Chaos (expesially Glottkin) and now Skaven releases are not nearly as good.
Same idea yes. Why? Most likely because that model sold well and they wish for this to sell as well. Looking back on many of the big beasts they do have a rider and this seems to fall into the dragon rider type of beast that we have become used to seeing. Mind you it would have been really nice if they spiced it up and had the rider in a howdah.
I want to convert it into a Keeper of Secrets. Does anyone else feel that way, or is it just me?
Lol. I see where your going with that but It doesn’t make me feel a bit “tingly” enough for that. Maybe your conversion will…;)
I have stumbled across an image on teh interwebz that seems to hint at a new type of armoured Rat Ogre coming for Skaven at some point in the next couple of weeks:- http://i2.wp.com/waaaghgaming.de/wordpress.waaaghgaming/wordpress_live_6Fu8/wp-content/uploads/skaven_rattenoger.png?resize=612%2C568 The one in the foreground has bits of warpstone poking out of its armour plating and what appears to be a warpstone powered pincer type claw of some kind, while the one in the background seems to have a Ratling Gun surgically grafted to its arm. Like others here, I am not wild about that bright blue colour scheme (shouldn’t Skaven of all factions be a… Read more »
nice find 🙂 I think they look awesome 🙂
… oh, and I paint my skaven armour purple … because I can 😉
Me, its bright pink… because I can 🙂
… and I highlight my purple armour with pink too (@ , @)
( sounds of heads Exploding in the distance )
Yarp Faeit 212 has got a few of these pics posted up. Would agree that the colour scheme perhaps isn’t the most thematic, but I’m loving the models……
It’s a skaven in Space Marine armour……..
Rounds bases … and so the end begins.
I can’t help but note the space marine armour and and now wondering … will be seeing “Space Marine” type models in Fantasy as the main force ? Seeing as “power armour” is clearly popular in 40K …
That Rat Ogre has laser boobies!
on some leaked pics there be round bases
Good to see better pictures! I think I feel about this the same as about a lot of the big recent releases: I absolutely love bits of it, but the overal thing is a bit… off. As with several of the other big kits, I may get one to convert into something else, not because I particularly like it in itself.
Those armoured rat ogres look pretty cool though…
Now I just have an image of the boneripper giving a bloodthirster a street fighter II style flaming dragon punch!
Wow if the new armour rat ogres are the future of fantasy …… yeah oldhammer here I come
Skaven were always in my top three ‘army of choice’ for WHFB, and I still love the mini’s esp. the various versions of Thanquol (though the old 20+ year old sculpt of Gnawdoom still pips him to the post IMHO).
Whilst I really like Thanquol in this version, Boneripper sadly lets it down. The price for what it is, lets it down even further and sadly it’s not on the to buy list which is a shame.
lol
I am Iron… Skaven? 😉
so if the new rat ogre things are Iron Skaven
… does that make this one with the warpstone fists Skaven Bane 😀
… or possibly Iron Fist Skaven, to stay franchise specific 😉
Fist of the Warpstone star?
… Mind … Blown (@____@)
… from the finger punches of Fist Of The Warpstone Star 😉
… brains everywhere 😛
Once you have witnessed the ruin-doom of your civilisation, you have my permission to die-die, manthing… 😉
All, I am very lucky that a friend bought me the End Times limited edition book after my going on about missing Khaine (and oh did I go on). Also, I bought him the Thaquol book, not knowing he’d already bought it for himself. Thus, long story short, I have a Thanquol End Times limited edition book – asking list price (£100) + postage from the UK or collect if you’re in Southampton. If there are no collectors here then I will send the spare books back. It is a great shame that Workshop haven’t managed the availability well. Khaine… Read more »
