New Bloodthirsters Come In Threes For Warhammer End Times!
February 27, 2015 by brennon
Games Workshop are back onto the End Times for Warhammer Fantasy and their latest range of pre-orders come in the form of not one, not two, but three different variants of the Bloodthirster. You have the Insensate Rage, Unfettered Fury and The Wrath of Khorne versions to have a look at...
Miniatures wise we're getting some very cool looking Bloodthirsters and it's good to see that the big major daemons are finally getting updated kits; it's been long enough. I think my favourite of the three has to be the Wrath of Khorne version simply because he looks the meanest. Big axes are awesome.
...and yes, he is on a round base but that's because he's used for Warhammer 40,000 as well as Warhammer Fantasy. Don't get too worried folks! These are some pretty insane kits and I would love to see them do the other Greater Daemons in this style.
Has anything caught your eye from this release?

Those anger management classes really didn’t take did they…
Not enough skulls. never enough skulls.
I think the anger issues stem from the fact that he doesn’t fit in most transport cases.
Until you can field him with CSM without having to buy not one but two overpriced Codices, I will have to pass.
Too much “standing on silly flames” going on for my taste.
I reckon they should do a fourth version, fury of a khornate curry, flames coming out of its backside as it flies through the air.
They are just a dream for a painter like me.
Are they wearing jet boots?
Only two of them
Maybe the third hasn’t said “flameboots on!” yet.
Its sort of interesting that GW and perhaps other studios get stick for the high frequency of “foot on” or “standing on” rock. But then you look at these “on flame” and the large skaven demon standing on its own spear and think…..wouldn’t a nice rock look better.
I guess a bit of clay round the flames would make them into rocks without weakening the structure of the model.
Having said that….looking at the sprue there are two bent legs and two extended legs….and non of these are attached to the flames. Perhaps can make a non-leaping variant quite easily….hope so.
Maybe the boots are not account for in the points cost of that version.
I had a very different pose in mind for the blood thirster, and it didnt involve ballerinas or balancing on flames.
Fantastic model….. apart from the pose.
bet you anything this model is not poseable either so you’re stuck with the same old pose
great detail for a plastic though – a great model, though I really wonder why they just didn’t throw their hands up and give him a “flyer” see through plastic base, like the Storm Ravens etc. have.
I was thinking feet firmly on the ground, and upper body posed a bit like the balrog, giving a battle roar.
one of the heads is very heroquest gargoyle monster like?
That’s what I thought as well! I hope it’s an intentional throwback to that old model. If I bought one I’d have to build it using that head and stand him up against the Heroes Quest heroes.
or replace the gargoyle? you may need a bigger board but.
Bigger board or he’d be stuck in one room trapped by furniture lol
The Bloodthirster is directly derived from the Gargoyle in Heroquest, no? All citadel miniatures.
Thought so too .. In swedish he was known as the “TERROR MASK” 😀
The heroquest gargoyle was basically the same design as the original balrog, sorry bloodthirster. I guess they chickened out from calling it a “Daemon” for the mass market in heroquest.
Wasn’t too sure on these then saw what looked likes a return of the dog head classic head, and was very impressed. Finally the 3d pic is up – and its not a dog head but one of the special-tors head, and with daft patterns on the wings. Genuinely feel like they object to my money
The snarling dogs head is a firm favourite .. wish they could had mixed in some more old-school and less he-manna barbera cartoon features for once.
For me none of it works. Detail for the sake of detail. All kinds of sh*t hanging off the miniature once again. Completely ruins any dynamic movement they were aiming for. And why does everything lately look like a beastman hero?
When I saw the price I thought: well, that’s a bit steep for three models, but well within the range of what GW loyalists will pay. Then I saw that it was for one model that could be built three ways lol.
The price is indeed a lolish one … been looking at alot of oldhammer these days, the end times are making me depressed. Just realized im satisfied looking at the old pictures and flicking through the really old books, occasionally giving a Gotrek and Felix audio drama a listen. Its the mood and tone of the old world im digging, not the game itself. Although it would be pretty cool to have a go at some retro 3rd edition 🙂
The old stuff on ebay is going to spike with the release of this, but that’s OK. Lots of cool demons and devils out there that look like they’re made for adults, and not tweens.
if you are not a post’y that is?
WoW! New Keeper of Secrets coming soon? That thought almost scares me.
So … that’s an Imperial Knight size model attached to its base by the tip of its toe? Seems secure. 😛
I’m picturing Sanguinius holding on to that whip in an epic diorama…
Well that seems like model that one needs to be careful with. Other than that it’s not bad at all.
I really like these, they look very delicate though, that whip is begging to be snapped off.
Its all very 50 Shades…
This looks fantastic, I don’t play chaos but I might pick one up just to paint.
The images leaked from White Dwarf did this model no justice. Now that its here in the flesh, I have to say wow. Way better then vermin lord and Nagash.
Good detail and hey i don’t have to pose it on flames, just leaping forward. Phew.
I don’t collect daemons, especially not Khorney ones but I like this fella. I’m even tempted to drop £54 on one. IMO he’s the best GW model I’ve seen in a while
That whip looks epic, love the model except for the silly jumping pose, why are all gamesworkshop models jumping lately….. is the ground too hot/holy or something.
I’ll just echo what some others have said. It’s a miniature with a lot of beautiful details, but the pose just doesn’t look right to me. It lacks weight.
As usual, Forge World do it better but at a considerably higher price.

Thats so much better it puts this new one to complete shame tbh .. its impressive yet perfectly conservative in its spikyness and skullfactor. The head could be more dog but thats about it i think.
I used to use the FW Khorne Daemon Prince as my Bloodthirster. It’s a lovely model and you got a great Herald of Khorne mini to boot.

I seem to be in the minority but I absolutely hate it, it looks too cartoony, the pose is idiotic and whoever decided that the wings should have branding on them like a pair of trainers should be taken out back and shot. They had the FW one right there to look to for inspiration and they come out with this? Its like sitting down staring at the Sistine Chapel Ceiling all day and then going home and drawing stick men with a crayon.
I sort of agree….I’m just about to embark on pinning and painting the FW model. I have always thought it was a near perfect model for a bloodthirster (if a bit too big for the game and its stats). However if he was plastic I wouldn’t be dreading the construction process….also the detailing on the wings is pretty naif for FW….seems like somebody just scored a scaplel across the wings in a few token places. The plastic wings perhaps have too much going on with this model though especially the icons….they need blending into the wing colour so its a… Read more »
Here we go again: discussing how to fix something that is on pre-order, rather than telling GW they’ve distributed another ‘epic fail.’ The best way to fix GW’s bogus models is not to buy them.
Some truth to that but more overstatement than anything perhaps. Because I prefer the FW doesn’t make the GW an epic fail. Its an improvement on the metal model and a lot of people who can’t afford FW are going to be extremely happy with this (and perhaps many who can). You strike me as a vet who may like to put his mark on his models. Conversions etc….are you saying all the models you convert are epic fail or if you make diorama or some such somebody doesn’t like is it an epic fail? Should you not have bought… Read more »
I only convert models if I can’t find anything that suits my needs, and so I buy them with conversion in mind. I don’t buy a bad model and try and fix it, simply because it is a GW model. I agree: plastic demons are a great idea, but not for the price, and not when they look the way this one does. The FW model looks fabulous; too rich for my blood, but as someone mentioned, a great source for inspiration. If I’m going to that kind of money on a demon, I’d rather go with @redben‘s solution: buying… Read more »
Conversions are fixing models to suit your desire….I don’t like the herald TBO. He isn’t menacing enough. Not enough powerful rage going on. Which means it must be an Epic Fail!
Sorry couldn’t resist. Its actually a nice figure but he’s just a bit Derpy front on. Looks like he’s guarding something as opposed to charging in to smash your head in.
I only mentioned the Forgeworld model as an alternative to pre-empt a collective snit from the GW loyalists, and provide a frame of reference they would all know about. I wouldn’t buy that one either, truth be known.
If I were inclined to spend rent money on a demon I would actually wait for the Creature Caster warrior demon. It’s cheaper, beefier, more detailed… but less cluttered. It doesn’t look like a cartoon, it’s not wearing jet boots, and its footprint on the battlefield is 50mm by 50mm, rather than being mounted on a GW mortar base plate:

I like him. One thing that bothers me, but about the GW biggies these days, is the fact that they are all flying or hovering. I d like to have the option to field my models grounded.
First GW model after a long time that makes me think of buying.
Will have to see a bit more of him, and hopefully in real life, before passing judgement.
