The Prosecutors & New Stormcast Battletome Arrive For Age Of Sigmar
September 5, 2015 by brennon
Games Workshop have a whole host of new Age of Sigmar releases descending from the heavens this week. Not only are there some new Prosecutors with their Heroes but also Upgrade Kits for specific Stormcast Eternal armies and a Battletome too...
Prosecutors
The Prosecutors are striking from the heavens with a new plastic kit that gives you them multiple weapon options including the Celestial Hammers from the Starter Set, spears or axes.
f you want to get a handle on the Prosecutors as a unit then you can read about them in their rules download HERE and HERE. Effectively you're looking to give yourself swift striking objective takers in your games who also have viable ranged attacks.
The Stormcall Javelins are a particularly potent ranged weapon for the Prosecutors that, when thrown over great distances can call down a strike of lightning on the enemy.
Winged Heroes
On top of the Prosecutors we have their Heroes that accompany them into battle. The Knight-Azyros and Knight-Venator give you options for both a close combat focused hero who strikes hard with debuffing abilities and a ranged one who hits from afar.
As before there are plenty of great rules for them including the awesome Star-Eagle who can strike with Rend 3 on the roll of a 6+ in combat and his bow that does some nasty damage with the Star-Fated Arrow.
On top of that the Azyros, seen below, can use his lantern to make shots easier for your army AND you can deploy nearer to him using lighting strikes despite being close to enemies. This makes him a good tactical choice.
The downloads for both of these heroes can be found HERE and HERE in Warscroll form.
I think these hero models are particularly awesome and the aesthetic of an entirely winged horde descending from the heavens to strike the enemy is an exciting one. It's just a shame that it would mean transporting the models was a crisis waiting to happen.
Upgrades
The regular Stormcast Eternals are getting Upgrade kits for both the Celestial Warbringers and Knights Excelsior. I would hope this means we get more of these as time goes by allowing you to personalise your force.
A lot of people don't like the aesthetic of the Stormcast but I could see this potentially converting a few of them. Of course there's nothing to stop you spending no money and raiding your bitz box for some additional extras instead.
Battletome
The Battletome for the Stormcast Eternals is next up for us to take a look at. Inside its pages you get Warscrolls for all of the units in the army, new quests to play out on the tabletop, new formations which come with their own special rules and background for the army as a whole.
There is also a Limited Edition version of the book as you can see below which comes in a slipcase and with added art prints.
As always I'm sure the book is packed full of gorgeous artwork and it looks like it would be nice to have on the bookshelf but I think I'll stick to the free PDFs and the App for now.
What do you make of the new releases?

Characters look fantastic. Hope my lottery ticket comes up this week…
Very nice the prosecutors with javelins and the venator are stunning its a struggle to keep up with all these stormcasts releases my bank accounting is taking a pounding, worth it though i reckon. Will be interesting to see if there is any more releases to come for the stormcasts in the realmgate books they mention a unit called vaxillors or somthing close wonder what they may be
I’m really looking forward to seeing some cavalry for these guys the arm is really missing a solid block of cavalry
Now these just went fully fantasy Sanguinary Guard with those wings.
So, they gave the lamp wings…
I still can’t really come to terms with the fact that the old Warhammer is dead and this is what replaced it.
ooh flying chocolate! I love Lamp 😉
I love them, especially the round shield and spear variants.
Is that £25 for just one Knight-Azyros? Even £35 for those three Celestial Hammers is ridiculous… and again, these ‘new’ models look just like all the other ones. Not sure what the rush is with all these Sigmar releases. Everything beyond the starter box set is still piled high at the store.
On the bright side, there seems to be more groceries in the Age of Sigmar. Everything they’ve released is quite rollie pollie.
Next faction, please.
“Look like the other ones?” Why yes, its called a uniform that soldiers wear. :/
Not helpful… again.
(Better not tell him you were one, sir!)
Oooo, thumbs down because I counter the naysayers with a fact, there’s a surprise.
I would venture to guess that’s not why you’re getting the thumbs down.
…I guess you just love it thumbs-up!
This swirly nonsense is GW’s response to everyone hooting at feet-on-rocks.
I HOPE YOU’RE RUDDY-WELL SATISFIED! 😉
That blue bird looks nice!
Its Dumbledore phoenix?
So… I get that we’re NOT going to get something original out of this faction, ever. They’re space marines. An armor is an armor is an armor. just add wings or a specila shoulder pad here and there, or put them on a swirly thing… Ok. I get that. Nothing wrong with that. But what’s with the parrot ? I mean, for the parrot to be with the Stormcast eternal, it would have to be a dead parrot, right ? so… This parrot is no more. It has ceased to be, it’s expired and gone to meet its maker. This… Read more »

It be a mixed blessing having a ghost parrot. If you taught it to say profanities to the enemy before it died it be really funny seeing a ghost parrot shout out F’in Khornpops! or some other demeaning thing. Then again having a ghost parrot never stop saying that line over and over may drive you mad!
Yup Romain you called it, definitely a dead parrot.
It’s not dead, it’s resting mid flight…
It’s pining, pining for the old world…
A Norwegian Blue, pining for the fjords…
…awesome!
That reminds me I think the immortals are on tonight.
…won’t they be on every night?
lol… for eternity.
Nice models, shame about the price.
You’d think people would get tired of making that comment… Yet, it’s still relevant for EVERY GW release, so it’s bound to come up !

“you didn’t expect me to say that did you?”
Contrary to many other people on the thread, I rather like the angelic Stormcast models, and like Brennon the idea of an all winged Stormcast army really appeals to me. Well, at least in theory. The practicalities of trying to transport it anywhere would have to be taken into account, and so it would probably have to be a stay at home army, which might limit one’s gaming options a bit. Still, it would certainly look striking and would probably be pretty effective on the tabletop as well, especially if it were supported by well chosen units from the broader… Read more »
How is this game selling btw? I see stacks of starters and overpriced “boosters” at the lgs and according to the manager its going slow. But that might just be here
Can’t say, really… anecdotal evidence. I know a parisian store where it’s selling rather well, and another where it’s “slow”, as you say. And in any case we’ll have to get numbers of players, not necessarily sales. It’s still a bit new for anything definitive.
considering you can use your old miniatures for the game without really buying much else it would also be interesting to know how many have gone from 8th to this …lots of members of the local gaming clubs stopped playing 8th after AoS was released and announced final warhammer tournaments before “going on to other systems”. Whats curious is lots of the old veterans started selling their armies off .. there was a definate sense of disapointment and anger surrounding the AoS release. Maybe it had been worth holding onto those armies in case AoS actually develops into something great… Read more »
To be honest, I can’t see Ao$ developing into something halfway decent, let alone great 😛
I think evidence for the failure of AoS can be found in this thread, TBH. A GW fantasy release used to generate 100-150 posts, both good and bad, but here we don’t have half that number. I think a lot of people have just moved on.
You’re right @hatamoto . It’s the Golden Age of buying up used Warhammer models. I’ve filled in a lot of the gaps in my Battlesystem armies at a fraction of the cost.
