Nagash Heralds In The End Times For Warhammer Fantasy
August 23, 2014 by brennon
Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy world is going to be overrun with the walking dead thanks to the coming of Nagash and the End Times Collection that features Nagash himself, a new rulebook for him and the events going on in the Old World and of course some limited bits and pieces too...
First up we have Nagash himself being carried aloft by those spirits flowing beneath his feet. He is quite the dangerous character and costs a whopping 1000 points. I will be picking up the White Dwarf with him in today for sure! I really like the model and he appears to have gone down well with a lot of other Fantasy fans too.
As well as the miniature we have the massive rulebook that accompanies him and provides you with background, scenario, and rules on the resurgence of Nagash. As well as that you have a nice big limited edition version if that takes your fancy and of course the new Lore of Undeath Battle Magic pack.
It is going to be interesting to see where this goes and if we could well be looking at a big shift in the timeline for Warhammer Fantasy and a new edition soon. The actual blurb for the book also mentions the return of big characters like Valten!
What do you think about all of this?

Rumours of a new Chaos and Empire characters being in the works have me excited, this model looks fabulous imo and is a return to form after the Space Wolves release.
Can’t wait to see what they do with Brettonians, though I know which army I’ll be starting on if those models aren’t to my liking ;P
And then I looked at the price of Nagash and was greatly dismayed… 🙁
And then you realised you also have to buy the book 🙂
And then you realised by that point, you could have bought an entire starter army and core rules set for any number of other wargaming systems, instead of a single giant floating skeletor toy.
Except he’s not a patch on Skeletor, although if you picture Nagash speaking like Skeletor the two kind of even out 🙂
Heck for near the same price you can get Island Of Blood and enough extras from your friendly discounter to get two 1,000pts armies.
Actually I was surprised to find that the website says:
“The full rules for using Nagash in games of Warhammer are included in Warhammer: Nagash. They can also be found in the construction booklet that accompanies the miniature.”
Interesting new direction for GW if they keep it up.
That’s something I’ve felt they should have done for years, it takes little effort and if someone’s paid for a product they should be able to use it straight from the box. I hope they do this for all new releases.
Though you will still need the book for the new lore, background and army list.
The old 40K boxes used to have the stats on the back for you.
“Babe… I got you, babe… I got you, babe.”
Although Cher would never stand on such an unsteady play structure. They could have at least made that part more dynamic looking. It doesn’t look in any way magical or ethereal. Is it supposed to be swirling?
Just ordered the book, and if they can get em the cards from my flgs. Naggy can wait a while – preparing subtle hints for the fiance.
Holy crap Naggy is sold out on the GW website
We’re doomed.
Not at all… unless somehow if enough people buy the model, the fictional Nagash manages to manifest in our reality*. In which case, yeah – pretty much doomed. 😉 I must admit that I didn’t expect a model right at the high end of the price spectrum to sell out so fast, and apparently GW didn’t anticipate it either. There appears to be quite the market for lich lord demigod models out there. —————————————————————————— * You know, because quantum. That sounds sort of semi-scientific, right? No? Complete psuedoscience twaddle that wouldn’t fool even a junior techpriest yet to have his… Read more »
I meant that if people are willing to buy substandard models for such an outrageous price, those of us who are a bit more selective, or perhaps objective about such things, and would like to see a return to the quality figures GW used to make, are going to be waiting a long, long time. This does not bode well for the Bretonnian release, so I might as well do a big shop at Gamezone. They’re doing big units in resin now as well, so that will be my new haunt.
Oh, and the producers of ‘Scary Movie’ called. If there’s a cowl head option in the box they’re going to sue for IP infringement. As @chibi said, use the Cher head option.
I’m not surprised he sold out, he is one of, if not the most, iconic characters in fantasy’s background and Fantasy needed a release like this, he is the Fantasy equivalent of a primarch, though funnily costs more to buy than forgeworld’s epic sculpts – yet still sells out? I agree his cost, along with the rulebook, is stupid but for many fantasy players and collectors his cost is relative – he’s Nagash and is 1000pts. He’s like the 40k equivalent of a Daemon Primarch- if GW released a plastic daemonic Angron or Perturabo the price would be the same,… Read more »
Speed he sold out is shocking, not that he did. That is 2 WFB releases that have sold out in a row – well at least of some models. Still don’t do market research and that’s what happens
Maybe it was a small run to test the pricing waters? “Sold out” i imagine works to fuel peoples crawings to have one. How weird that may sound ..
Atleast they seem to be doing what their customers want ; slap silly high price tags on their models.
Companies tend to charge whatever prices they believe the market will support for their products. Unless GW is fiddling the sales figures here (a little unlikely) then it seem the market will support a £65 price tag, at least for now. As a publicly traded company, GW has an obligation to their shareholders get the best price for their wares that they can without compromising the viability of the company (one can argue that they have really badly failed to make that judgement correctly, but that is another issue), and so have an incentive to charge as much as they… Read more »
Really? All those years of mockery regarding the old model and this is the version people like? To me it looks like some awful 90’s transformers spin off, give me the clown anyday… well, maybe after a hat trim and some miliput to the face 🙂
I wonder how much Toys ‘R’ Us will charge for it? Maybe some of you die-hards can get it cheaper there 🙂
Well, I have ordered my Death Pope, even though the price is nuts. I’ve played undeads since I discovered GW’s awesome classic Skeleton Horde and Skeleton Army plastic sets as a kid. So I thought what the hell for a one off. Besides, there will be nothing else I’ll be getting from GW this year 😀
smh……………..
