Mighty Archaon Riding Into Age Of Sigmar Soon On Winged Beast
November 8, 2015 by brennon
Games Workshop have only just announced the release of Horus Heresy: Betrayal At Calth but hot on its heels is another Age of Sigmar release. Coming soon we have a new version of Archaon atop a rather massive winged beast of Chaos. See what you think of it HERE.
As you can see you have Archaon mounted on the top with his massive runic sword and fetching new set of armour. He is riding what amounts to effectively a Chimera rather than a dragon, with the three heads matching the daemons of Khorne, Tzeentch and Nurgle.
Slannesh is noticeably absent from the beast but is shown instead on Archaon's shield at the bottom and in the key words you find concerning his rules. Overall I think this is quite a neat model.
It won't be everyone's cup of steaming Chaosified tea but I think that it could be a great project and provides a big bad guy for Sigmar to fight now he's returned.

Neat pose on the model, should raise it above his minions as the Chaos figurehead. Glad to see Slaanesh isnt being completly etched out of history…
That’s quite a pony he’s riding. Looking forward to better pics of that mount, impressive at first glance.
Recently got the classic Archaon for the Dragon Rampant rules. I’m going to play a Chaos Warband in that system. Being a huge Archaon fan i love the model but I won’t get it because… well not that useful in most systems. And huge…
I preferred the horse.
Given the horse’s backstory. Yes. Definitely.
That is the horse, or rather what the horse has become over time. Chaos, mutation, change, you know how it goes.
It does make one wonder exactly what Archaon has been feeding Dorghar though…

Khorne Flakes?
Ba-dum-tss
Humour like that is definitely chaotic/evil… 😉
I agree with @deaddave. Has the tenth red heifer been born?
So far this looks rather impressive.
In my best Seinfeld Voice, “What is the deal with no Slaanesh head?”… seriously? if Slaanesh is gone, why the symbol on the shield? If Slaanesh isn’t gone, why not go with 4 heads…. unless Archaon IS SLAANESH!!!!
In the fluff as it currently stands, Slaanesh has been imprisoned by Malerion (the tyrant formerly known as Malekith) and Tyrion, thus leaving everyone’s favourite non-family friendly Chaos deity weakened relative to his/her brothers, and thus less able to influence the Mortal Realms. Slannesh emphatically is not gone, and I would lay odds that a campaign set at some point down the line will revolve around attempts to free Slaanesh.
Of course, once Slaanesh is free, how he/she will respond to the revelation that the Horned Rat has sought to usurp Slaanesh’s position in the Chaos pantheon could be interesting…
You are assuming that Slaanesh will be freed.
I do consider it very likely that Slaanesh will ultimately be freed, since GW has been doing a lot of set up in the AoS books about Slaanesh’s imprisonment, the fact that it was done without Sigmar’s knowledge at a critical juncture in the war, and that Slaanesh’s minions are scouring the Realms and are prepared to do anything to free their mistress/master. It seems odd that GW would lay quite a bit of groundwork like this with no intention of ever capitalising on it.
It would be no more odd than binning over 30 years of an established IP…
Just too cluttered. I prefer the guy on the manticore.
That seems to be the trend – make a poor mini, but cover it in ‘detail’ and people won’t notice.
He will land on my painting table. A very impressive centerpoint mini and my painting hand is itching allready.
I like it – it is bonkers and over the top, but then again the chosen champion of the powers that embody mutation and corruption would probably be a little on the extreme side.
I like it. Don’t know if I’ll pick him up but I like it. Personally I’m looking forward to Tzeentch stuff that will hopefully be coming soon. Hopefully.
I love the original model.
The pics aren’t great but I don’t like the design of chaos monsters in fantasy and what I see here doesn’t look great in my eyes.
3 heads and every one looks shit.
…that’s what I like – honesty!
That is so much worse compared to original model. More heads is not better.
I like the concept , but the heads are too small for the body, even if you just had one of the heads it would be too small, makes the miniature look like a mash of 2 different scales.
I like it it will be a toss up between this model and a bloodthirster can’t afford both but I want both
don’t like it…..looks a little too cartoon-like IMO, guess I’m going to have to get the current Archaon model for that painting project I promised myself before it disappears
Looks good. As always with GW products. Not shure how to use/field him or why but the model is very nicely done.
It looks impressive!!
As for Slannesh i heard that the greater deamon was done and an equally impressive model in fact all the deamon are done, but the the khorne BT came out and dwarfed the slannesh one. So they have had gone back to the drawing board with it and that is why there is no slannesh at the moment they are waiting to add it in at an approiate time when the new model is done.
