New Khorne Deathbringer & Pox Marked Nurgle For Age Of Sigmar
August 15, 2015 by brennon
Games Workshop continue down the path of Chaos with Age of Sigmar as their latest list of releases feeds both the hordes of Khorne and Nurgle. The big release is the Exalted Deathbringer which has garnered a lot of praise and a whole bunch of repackaged Nurgle models...
Blood For The Blood God
The Exalted Deathbringer is a murderous individual with some pretty nasty rules. He is, of course, a daemon in combat and even has rules for punishing you on the defensive with the Skullgouger. I think the model is great too and really captures this new vision of Khorne, giving all of the army this heavily daemonic feel.
Some of his rules include the chance to give him a Runemarked Shield (lose the fighting claw) which allows you to ignore wounds on a 2+ - pretty crazy. He is also a brutal commander, using blood and gore to cement his command. Khorne units can use his Bravery within 12" and if you murder some models you can raise that to 24".

Pestilent Nurgle
Nurgle get a whole bunch of repackaged miniatures for the new era of Warhammer including the Blightkings and the Glottkin from The End Times. Gutrot Spume, Lord Of Plagues, Sorcerer, Festus Leechlord and a Lord have all been drafted in for service by the bloated God of decay...
The models have always been impressive for Nurgle so it's good to see them getting a bit of love in the story even if we have no new models. It will be interesting to see how the other Chaos Gods get in on the action too down the line.
What will you be picking up this week?

Exalted Deathbringer looks overly silly and cartoony but those Nurgle guys actually look rather good. Once again Nurgle has best looking stuff.
And the rerelease of the Putrid Blightkings is most welcome – the kit allows so much variety, you can easily build 10+ individual models (if you get multiple sets (or extra bodies).
The Grandfather is pleased.
Deathbringer: “I shall pick your nose with my wannabe wolverine claws for the glory of the blood god!”
I like the Exalted Deathbringer, even if the model is a little bit silly if taken too seriously. There is just something very Metal about him (and no, not in the Realm of Chamon kind of way, but rather more Iron Maiden) that fits AoS’s self consciously OTT dynamic. Or maybe I’m just weird when it comes to model aesthetics. I should also point out that the rune marked shield only offers a 2+ save against wounds or mortal wounds caused by spells, which fits the Khornate fluff and isn’t as over powered as it might otherwise sound. His command… Read more »
The Chaos guy looks like a 12-year-old’s vision of “buff.” Still nothing from the AoS series that interests me… except the old armies on EBay.
Imo they would produce smashing sculpts if they could drop their overdone heroic scale .. it gets so damn compressed
Like the blight kings, would like to see where they take the other nurgle warriors
Fantastic looking hero – he means business.
I like the look of the Deathbringer.
Happy days! Already building a small Nurge force so this is awesome for me.
The new guy…..meh. Looks good but I would do some conversion work to make it work for me.
They’re great, objectively speaking (personally I’m not a fan of the he-man stuff) but again that Deathbringer pose is very static. Why give a model a freaking massive two-handed axe, and have him lean on it like a geriatric? Heft the damn thing! Isn’t this guy supposed to want to be in the thick of the fighting? Have him bolting forward, axe over his head, screaming “BLERD FER THE BLERD GERD!”
I love the Deathbringer, his pose is actually more dynamic than it looks in the pics. Look at him from the side in the GW 360 image. He’s actually striding forward pretty …stridently… It does annoy me that he’s carrying a two-handed axe yet his other hand is taken up with that claw though, so he can’t actually wield the axe properly. I’ll have to use a Wrathmonger hand to fix that, but it’s something I thought GW would’ve taken care to think about, seeing as we’ve had articles in WD before about how to think through the physics in… Read more »
Like the khorne deathbringer.
