New Khornate Champions Slaughter Forth For Age Of Sigmar
March 26, 2016 by brennon
A new array of champions have hit the webstore from Games Workshop for your Chaos armies. If you're looking for multiple ways in which to say you're killing someone then these chaps will do the trick. See what you think of these latest Age of Sigmar releases...
Leading the way and potentially looking the most average of the three we have the Aspiring Deathbringer with Goreaxe and Skullhammer. He is well armed but I think that the look of the miniature is very much in keeping with the old aesthetic and style we've seen from Khorne before.
Going as far as to paint the skull he wears on his head white goes back to those old metal champions we saw a few years ago. I think the model is certainly dynamic but doesn't do anything particularly new.
This chap, the Exalted Deathbringer with Impaling Spear, however does do something neat. I like seeing more of the Marauder aspect of the Chaos army being worked into the miniatures we're seeing. He might be possibly the most over-muscular character ever but I think he looks rather cool.
It's a shape that the muscles are so overblown as I think he would have made a great champion with the big flowing beard and wild hair. More Marauders and tribesmen would be a welcome change from the armour clad warriors.
Last but not least we have the Slaughterpriest with Hackblade and Wrath-hammer. They really have gone all out to make sure the names you're reading out sound like the back of a heavy metal album.
I quite like what they've done here with this model and the wound up flail is a neat addition to the model. It makes him look a bit more brooding and terrifying as he gazes at you and works out in which way he's going to kill you.
It would be nice to see if we could build on the idea of running a Valkia The Bloody style army however and adding some berserker women into the mix. She is an awesome character and I think some wild shieldmaidens of Khorne would be awesome.
What do you think of their offerings?

I actually like them. Might be something I’d consider for my Warband. Although I’d covert them a little to fit in with my Marauders unit.
Price tag will be decisive tho.
Psst GW – there are other gods than Khorne you know. As for the minis, first one is fairly good, but mainly because it keeps with the aesthetic already established and hardens back to the metal champions and if you slap a marine backpack on him he’s perfect for anyone who does a World Eater CSM army. Second one is gods awful, muscles are stupidly large and over the top in a bad way and just look ridiculous and the spearhead is far too big. Third one is rather good, although the weapon names leave something to be desired (such… Read more »
They all look pretty good and fit in with AOS.
Those do look very Khorne like so least in that sense they were successful. Top and button one look very much like Champions of Khorne from WHF so I am sure that Avatars of War has some alternatives for those two. Maybe next GW could start bringing other Chaos Gods to AoS as well.
Like that slaughterpriest, would get one if GW had a realistic pricing model
Maybe I’d paint the last two, considering the modular heads… but not at that price.
Not sure if people dislike modular heads or that you don’t like the price 😉 So have a +1 cookie from me 😀
I was referring to the modular heads because that way I could possibly choose one that looks bearable (maybe even from another kit)… And also, price. But thanks ! 🙂
The first one looks no different to all the other like models. So why make it ?
The second one, six stupid skulls. Do one. Cartoonish. Get lost.
The third one is very good, very gritty and the style is adult in contrast to most of the AoS range – very good.
£18 for a plastic model though lol…. You can literally buy RESIN Forgeworld models for less. Stupid GW.
1st and 3rd I like, the second just doesn’t do it for me.
As for the price, well, I’m pretty much desensitized to them now. If I like it I’ll pay it.
I should have picked a cheaper hobby like Fabergé Egg collecting or sleeping with supermodels.
Its not a cheap hobby, but GWs brand of hobby is just absurd .. i dont support the idea of 18£ plastic characters for mass battle games and so will never spend that unless its limited/special edition or the like. But they charge what people pay, thats true 🙂
…nice!
I love the models, I think they’re brilliant. Of all the Khornate releases for AOS I feel as though number 2 up there is the most human looking, almost like a good ol’ barbarian of yore.
Prices are off-putting though.
Big news for me is the clear out of the old WHFB singles going on their website right now, end times indeed! 🙁
Long live ebay and the like for getting those last bit for those armies … I guess I should finish of some of my WHFB projects, but the fire have died under them.
Model wise I like the last two, but the first is just too much … But even before they threw out the only GW game I did/do play some of the Chaos did strike me as overmuch, so nothing new there
I grabbed a DE sorceress on Cold One on ebay today for cheaper than GW’s webstore but I imagine the ebay scalpers will be waking up to the news very soon! 🙁
I’ve just seen the huge clearout of models on last chance to buy. There are a lot of very nice models going…I’ve managed to buy up some of them but have now missed out on some of GW’s finest of recent years. Balls.
As for these models, not really sold on them though the previous Slaughterpriest they released was very nice. The second of this batch looks odd. His upper arm’s bicep should be extended rather than flexed so anatomically it’s wierd looking. It could be the paint job but the muscles look like meat coming out of an exploding sausage.
There are some lovely sculpts going in the bin by the looks of things, they were always a ‘one day, in the future’ purchase too but not any more. 🙁
I missed out on the old Specialist Games Inquisitor models in the same way, really irritating!
Love the bearded Barbarian.
Any bearded mini that’s not ‘wolf’ or ‘dwarf’ gets a second look from me.
More skull-dripping beefcake models. Sigmarines vs ‘roid rage. AoS needs some variety.
Who buys GW stuff at full RRP? let’s be honest majority of people buy for 20-25% at places like Wayland Games. So this fallacy of paying 18 pounds for a plastic model is silly. It will be £13.50-£14.40 for 99.9% of buyers.
Lets be honest that only puts it from absurd to highly overpriced :p was just looking at the dark sword singles and some new infinity characters, its quite the potential eye opener.
that’s not a fallacy. Retail price is retail price. And dare I say most people are unaware of Wayland, Triple Helix, Dark Sphere etc etc.
The casual gamer might be but those that hang around here, BoLS or Dakka-Dakka would not be. And any one using google when shopping would find out fast enough as well.
I guess that leave the poor parents who get pulled into the GW retail out lets by their young uns’
Some 80% of people (apparently) who buy GW have no interest in the wargame and are merely collectors so a good deal of them probably don’t go to discount suppliers …
Even if I were “just” a collector I would do my research on price, it might just be me. But stamp collectors don’t all buy from the post office.
Let me know when you want me to throw you a fifth ball.
If I can get the Slaughterpriest for around £12 I am tempted to get him as champion for my Marauders.
As I said I do like them but only for a reasonable price.
The Slaughterpriest is the first GW Model that has piqued my interest since the whole ‘Age of Sigmar’ started up! — but has it piqued enough for it’s price tag… Nah.
I really like the third but I wish they’d skipped the armoured boots.
I don’t think I’ve ever met one person in the hobby who isn’t aware of online retailers who offer 10-30% off various miniature ranges. Sure some people still buy from the shops (not that many as GW are running more and more stores with 1 person) but I would expect a huge chunk of retail sales come from 3rd party retailers.
Would I buy these at £18? no. At £14? probably.
Set it to 50% and its getting close to what most everyone else doing “premium” minis is at. GW tax is accepted, i just dont think its good for either GW or the consumer.
I wish they did troops like this for Slaanesh or Tzeentch, I really want some fantasy Thousand Sons!
You want suits of armour with someones soul bound to it in a fantasy game? Aren’t those known as Stormcast Eternals? 😉
I imagine that GW name the minis much like FA Cup ties are drawn, only instead of football teams, the numbers correspond to random words.
GW Employee 1: The next mini is called….
GW Employee 2: Number 27
1: ‘Smash’
GW Employee 3: Number 52
1: ‘Brute’. ‘Smashbrute’
As for those three minis, the last is definitely the pick of the bunch. Not sure what they were thinking with the second one. I assume they’re just bored and wondering how far they can go before people stop buying them.
I am surprised that here’s no discount for buying all three.
Why are you surprised? Nearly every other bundle they produce for new releases doesn’t have a saving.
Minis look cool but ffs GW enough of Khorne.
Yep, we are desperately in need of some variety.
Variety for the Change God!
Tzeentch?
That would be telling 😛
Love the 3rd one. Second one looks like he has been inflated which is a shame because if the muscles were toned down a bit I think it would be a better model for it.
The first one is a bit generic but I don’t think a bad mini.
I watched Blade again last night and I must admit the second one looks like a vampire just injected with that vampire exploding serum. Another 5 seconds and kaboom.
I like the first one, but he’s not special enough to warrant special character price. I hugely dislike the second one. The third I really like. It’s conceivable I might get him at some point. But man, do the stupid names of things put me off getting into the game…
On a tangent, has anyone else read through the new Warscroll compendium from Forgeworld that covers some of the units from Monstrous Arcarnum? I have the book, and it is pleasing that the units from it can now be used again, since at least the fluff it contains is still relevant. My favourite units from the book were the the Mourngul and Skinwolves, and fortunately both made the cut. As for the rules, they look pretty good to me. Taking the example rules for the Skinwolves, I prefer the AoS version to the original Old Hammer rules – it really… Read more »
The colossal squig has awesome rules but I was quite disappointed with the squig gobba.
they look good.
