First In-Engine Trailer For Total War: Warhammer Is Live!
July 17, 2015 by brennon
The first big in-engine trailer for Total War: Warhammer is now live for you to watch above! It's looking awesome and sees Karl Franz take to the field atop his trust winged steed, Deathclaw...
Now that is looking very impressive indeed and has already stirred more shiny syndrome for all things Warhammer.
What did you think of it?

Whoah…
I think I just pee’d.
All of my want
OK that’s pretty cool!
By Sigmar.. that was breath taking. And troops actually realistically righting in ranked formation!
And what a great way to introduce people to the Warhammer Fantasy universe and Fantasy Battle Game! – much like Dawn of War did!
Those graphics look impressive.
That’s odd @poosh, the ranked formation was what I looked at and said it’s some what wrong. Yes they were in blocks as a formation, but as pikemen they should have been much closer to each other.
Yes, it’s not perfect – though that being said it might be a necessity of how the graphics work (each animated solider has a set of animations it can perform, and the spacing might be necessary to avoid dodgy graphical situations)
Sooo… the physical game is dead, but we have this now ?
Warhammer is dead, long live Warhammer (on pc 😛 )
Poosh is right perhaps this will get Total War players into Warhammer and the Old World setting….oh, hold on………yeah well played GW! .Is this another example of their Age of Sigmar marketing genius that some people have been speaking about?
Games Workshop are very savvy when it comes to business.
lulz
My +1 is only to the lulz part of your comment. I just wanted to make that clear 😉
The development partnership for this game started in 2012.

A lot can change in 3 years.
And it takes more than 5 minutes to have the idea for a new game, concept it, design it, manufacture and release it. In other words, PoS erm I mean AoS would of started far enough back that they could of done Total War: AoS to fit with Tabletop: AoS if they really could be bothered. I saw a post earlier this week pointing out several upcoming terrain pieces for AoS were featured in Triumph & Treachery with is like two years old now? Plus the dev time on that product and the terrain pieces. So who know what AoS… Read more »
Sorry, you lost me at PoS…
It’s a thread on Total War: Warhammer, there’s plenty of other threads to pee in AoS’s cheerios elsewhere.
Slippery use of words. What you can achieve with an Engine like that in scripted mode producing trailers is very different from true in-game mode.
Did anyone else think “those halbards need to stand closer together!”
Most games get developed on top end rigs and then get downgraded at some point in their dev cycle so that they can be used on well… not top end rigs 😉
Woah woah woah. This looks like total sh*t. I was under the impression that they weren’t going to use the 30 years of beautifully crafted backstory. I thought they’d done away with the renaissance Europe and heavily judo-christian backdrop in favour of the fluffless Age of Sigmar. What have they done? No one will want this rubbish. We want more Age of Sigmar!
Oh wait, Creative Assembly realised people wanted a game based on the game they have played for years and love. Unlike ‘Workshop
Ha ha ha ha
Looking forward to it.
Now that is very impressive so far. Here’s hoping that the final game captures all that Oldhammer magic we know and love. As for the tabletop, I plan on continuing to play 8th Edition Oldhammer, play some Age of Sigmar as well, and enjoy a little Kings of War – I don’t see any need to choose when the same models can be used in all three systems. 🙂
so soon so soon.
I have a feeling I will waste a lot of my life playing this game. A lot of it.
Drool!
Might even get a new computer for this..
Well now we know where the general riding a Griffon rumors came from.
I’m in
To pass the time before this game comes out, why not play Warhammer Shadow of the Horned Rat since its now on GoG. We already have some great old world goodness available.
SOLD!
If they do a good job of this game I will be a very happy chappy
Wow, so there is still intelligent life on planet Warhammer.
I’m sold! I better get all my painting done before this comes out. I can’t see myself getting much done afterwards
The Total War series (yes, every one of them released) has been a staple installation on every PC I’ve ever owned since the original Shogun. I buy them sight unseen. I can’t wait to try this one, will be interesting to see what kind of map game it has going for it.
So they kill a great game. And then they release an epic looking game set in that world. So all the guys who will be interested in WHFB, due to the game, will become really fucking confused and AoS is not a proper replacement for WHFB. Such poor timing from GWs side. Such a missed opportunity. Such fail.
This may be using the game engine but it is still very much a cinematic trailer. I don’t think the game play will be that far removed from previous total war games.
This is absolutely brilliant.
What a shame that GW have just ditched the whole 30 year old Fantasy franchise for something to appeal to 40K/Space Marine players who just never understood Fantasy in the first place.
Still there is always Mantic (as always).
How many old GW games is it now that Mantic have picked?
– Deadzone (Necromunda)
– Dreadball (Blood Bowl)
– Dungeon Saga (Hero Quest / Warhammer Quest)
– and now Warhammer Fantasy (Kings of War)
Just wish they’d hurry and pick BFG and Epic 😉

I was replying to Nobbla’s comment listing Mantic’s GW equivalent games and saying I want them [Mantic] to do their own BFG and Epic version. 😉
Epic! That was my very first miniature wargame and my very first purchase was the Eldar Avatar. At the height of my Epic career I had amassed 33000 points of Eldar. God I loved that game. But GW is GW and they squandered the potential of that game, just as they have done with EVERY game they ever had, the only exception, thus far, is 40k. All their other games they messed up. Damned fools.
