Gotrek & Felix Heading Off On Their Final Adventure?
March 14, 2014 by brennon
The author of the next (something)slayer book for the Gotrek & Felix series, David Guymer posted a link showing off what could be the final title in this epic saga. Black Library's Gotrek & Felix: Kinslayer is on the cards.
Here's the blurb...
"Once heroes and companions on the greatest of adventures, Gotrek Gurnisson and Felix Jaeger have long since gone their separate ways. Felix, married and working for the family business in Altdorf, embarks on a journey north to Kislev when he hears that an old comrade has been captured by the forces of Chaos. Reunited with Gotrek, and other old friends, Felix begins to suspect that he has embarked upon his final adventure. And in the cold north, Gotrek's doom awaits him."
How this moves on from the events at the end of Zombieslayer I don't know, and it will be interesting to find out exactly what Guymer has planned but I love that they are delving back into the actual slayer series to bring it to some kind of conclusion. It's a shame that Nathan Long isn't working on the finale but Guymer has proved himself to be a capable writer of slayer novels with other stories.
Will Gotrek find his doom? I for one don't think he should. I think there should be a sense of tragedy about the ending for these two. Felix dies without being able to finish off the epic poem and Gotrek never finds his doom, wandering off into myth and legend.
What do you think?
Felix always thinks that his current adventure will be the last one.
I have never read any of these
Are they like Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser?
Are they worth getting?
I don’t know those two series @torros but I for one love the whole Gotrek & Felix saga. It’s spanned quite a few books now and it’s all collected in omnibus editions so you can have access to them all. It’s been written by William King, who I think writes ace combat but doesn’t do so well on the character development, and Nathan Long, who does fairly good combat and brilliant character progression. The current author, David Guymer, has written a selection of short stories and novellas and he is reasonably good. He has a problem with a lot of… Read more »
Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser were written between the 40 and 60 by Fritz Leiber set in Lankhmar

Most of what you see in RPG’s are based on the feel of those books
Lieber was an influence on Gary Gygax and consequently D&D, though it’s stretching things to say that most rpgs are based on the feel of those books. D&D-esque sword & sorcery is indebted to Lieber would be more accurate.
Yeah I think I was maybe over-stretching the point there, though I was referring to the mid 70’s games rather than anything later
@torros there is a similarity to Lieber’s work i think you may enjoy them but as various authors have written for the series you may not like it all.
Thanks..I shall check the library to see if they have any before I buy
I’ve been reading this series since it began and hope this is somehow incorrect.
The whole ” oh by the way in between novels all this happened” just ruins it.
Don’t think we can judge that much until we see the actual book – it might have been handled in a neat way.
To be honest I think it’s more likely to be handled in a novella.
