The Fyreslayers Are Coming To Age Of Sigmar This Week
January 4, 2016 by brennon
It looks like we're going to be seeing a huge array of flame-haired Dwarfs (Duardin sorry...) coming to the tabletop for Age of Sigmar this week thanks to Games Workshop. A new round of leaks have dropped from the latest White Dwarf showing off some impressive new plastic kits...
You can check out the image that's leaked from White Dwarf HERE. There is also some additional information swimming around considering what the models actually are. According to the rumours we're getting...
More images HERE showing off the front of White Dwarf & some close-ups of the weapons.
- Fyreslayer Hearthguard - Duradin with shooting weapons, great axes and flail/halberd hybrid weapons
- Fyreslayer Vulkite Berserkers - Duardin with duel axes, bladed shield and axe/pickaxe hybrid weapons
- Fyreslayer Alric Runemaster - Character Duardin mounted atop massive 'Salamander' type creature
I would assume that the other mounted warrior atop the salamander in the leaked image is an alternative pose for the same kit. I have to say I'm blown away by how awesome these kits look and not just because I like Dwarfs.
The whole Fyreslayer background surrounds the Ur-Gold which they use to tattoo runes onto their skin. They believe that it is blessed by their God Grimnir and so they must collect it in order to honour him and gain his power.

We shall see where this goes and will keep you updated!

They look like giant slayer dwarfs..!?
Ok I have not been impressed with GW products for the past 2 years but these look really awesome.
Honestly, it was the potential of what GW might do with the already established armies in not having to design models that have to rank up, that was the most interesting aspect of AoS, and I can’t wait to see more of the Dwarf range, and what other armies might now get. It’s easy for me to type this behind a keyboard on the internet, but I reckon AoS would have benefited enormously if they’d put out at least a new unit for most of the core armies (i.e. Dwarfs, Lizzards, Skaven, Elves, Humans, Orcs / Goblins), instead of focusing… Read more »
I think so too. A bigger release with more armies would have done a lot for the new factions in the game and made a cleaner break from Warhammer Fantasy.
This would explain the next issue line in the latest issue of White Dwarf:
“The quest for Ur-Gold begins”
The next White Dwarf is apparently going to be a bumper issue, probably showcasing this new set of releases and their Warscrolls (maybe we are also going to see the announcement of a new battletome too). I have to say the models look amazing and I can’t wait to see them up close.
The question on my mind, and probably on a few other people’s minds is, will there be any chance of a Start Collecting! set for these as well?
As I understand it from the main AoS book, the Fyreslayers are mercenaries who will work for whoever pays them the most in Ur-Gold. For now I believe that is Sigmar, but it sounds like their alliegance can switch. Makes me wonder if there will be a rule where a force from any faction can field a unit or Warscroll battalion of slayers.
Yeah if Chaos forces offer them more they are happy to change sides because they want the pieces of their Gods essence from whoever has it.
…all seems a bit Skaven and their obsession with Wyrdstone!
I find these a bit meh to be honest. I think if they lost the helms, had smaller crests and some wore more than just a loincloth they’d be fairly good, but as it stands they seem too over the top for my tastes. But then again, I haven’t really been keeping up with AoS fluff so maybe that aesthetic fits right in now.
The only things that catch my eye in that pic is the standard (not the bearer though) and maybe the priest riding the salamander as they look like they’d be useful for Chaos Dwarfs.
I like the Slayers well enough. The big old Salamanders are what really have my attention. Might want to use them for something else.
Is his hair and beard on fire?
You see, this is why smoking is not allowed in barber shops!
Hahahahahahaha
Good thing it’s not jerry curls or ir be game over.
Can’t see any indication on model count for the Fyreslayers set. Looks like at least 5, more likely 10.
Any word on the chances of a Start Collecting! Box? That would sway me into buying.
They remind me of a a scene from a film, oh yes “GORDONS ALIVE” (for those to young Flash Gordon)
So good to see something other than Chaos or Sickmarines. Sadly the game still sucks and I can’t get myself to like its bubbly fantasy world.
I normally like dwarves. I liked the old ones a fair bit. But these half nude little chubbies just don’t work for me.
Amazing work @brennon still number 1 in bringing the articles I am super interested in! Have to say these guys look very interesting… However, aren’t we trying to move away from Slaanesh and all s/he stands for? I mean those guys are showing off a lot of leg right there… it’s down right cheeky!
Anyway more seriously I really love the look of some of the beasts they are riding! looks like they would be great for lizard men!
From the colour scheme, the big Salamander monster thingie on the left hand side of the first image of the link looks like he might want to burn the entirety of Azeroth beneath the shadow of his wings, if only he had wings… 😉
My mind was going “Awesome!” and “Seriously?!” at the same time.
obligatory statement to say I am not fond of the miniatures to see if I get down voted into oblivion for daring to say something is not my cup of tea.
It’s nice to see some new dwarves even if it’s for game that I don’t care about. Then again after all Sigmarines and Khornes everything else is welcome change.
I didn’t like the recent WHFB Dwarf aesthetic, and I don’t like the new AoS Dwarf aesthetic.
These are only the Grimnir worshippers aka the Slayer cult. Grungni the forge father of the Dwarves is still in the realm of Azyr where I imagine we will get more armour encased Duradin at some point. They kind of remind me of that Dwarven dogs of war unit from WHFB.
That is correct – these models are just the Fyreslayer faction, and aren’t the totality of Dwarf kind in AoS. We haven’t seen the Steamhead Duradin yet, but it is a fair bet that they will be the more traditional heavily armoured type of dwarf, possibly with a fair bit of steampunk style tech to back them up judging from the name.
Awful.
So glad my Dwarf army was made in 1987…
Mine come from Scibor and Mom Miniatures, GW has definitely fallen behind… and of course, there’s the inevitable price tag. The AoW dwarves look as good imo, and will be a fraction of the price.
Those poses are terrible, the details on the models look nice though.
Im missing proper slayer facial expressions, posing .. they can put all the detail they want on the minis it wont matter if they are as stiff looking as these. Im trying to think away the stupid helmets and dragon mounts as well but its not easy. Very disapointed in the AoS slayers.
I just want my Skavens back 🙁
Have a box full of original metal rats 🙂 best of the bunch imo, even the ratogres
They will appear the four symbol on that of Archons box was the horned god of the rat not one of the traditional gods of chaos so stay faithful.
Ha ha ha… It really is interesting how differently people about new miniatures. My first thought on seeing these was ‘oh my God, they’re TERRIBLE!’ And then I read the comments here and find lots of love for them! Personal taste is a wonderful thing! I suppose I’m partly surprised because I really liked the last plastic kits to come out for Warhammer Dwarfs. Not the prices, but the kits were very nice. I’m not a dwarf player so it doesn’t really matter to me, but I wonder if when I see them up close I’ll change my mind?
Can’t wait to see some better pics of these especially the big monsters. Might have to pick up the Magma dragon from forge world.
One of the things I love about AoS is the one page of rules that comes out with every model that has all the info you need on it. I was looking through the 40k space wolf codex last night and had to have about 3 pages open to work out weapon options.
I have to say I really do not like these. But I have to admit a lot of that might still be me pining for Oldhammer. I really loved the background of the Slayers and had a whole Slayer army from the days of Storm of Chaos.
It’s a bit odd looking at some of the comments as some seem to bash GW pushing certain elements that in most fantasy published of Dwarf slayers depict them as almost nude, having red hair, big mohawks and axes. I even have my first GW mini of a blood bowl character that is a slayer. He looks much like them, minus the mohawk glitter. The big dragon looks really cool, but why do Dwarves have that? A giant ram or other nordic styled beast would have been better for the theme. Give the dragon to the lizardmen as it looks… Read more »
I suspect a big Fire Salamander fits better with the fire aesthetic GW have going on with this set of Dwarfs.
When you mention a giant ram, or other Nordic styled beast, my mind immediately thinks of a cold climate, which is about as far away from the theme going on here as you can get.
I like slayers. I don’t like these slayers: it’s the beards of fire that really don’t do anything for me!
