The Exalted Deathbringer Next Up For Khorne In Age Of Sigmar
August 11, 2015 by brennon
Games Workshop look to be supporting Khorne again this week with another release called the Bloodbound Exalted Deathbringer for Age of Sigmar. You can see him HERE looking very cool indeed...
Bathed In Blood
The model comes with a huge axe which is of course, very Khornate, and there are plenty of skulls and horns all over the place. I like the fact that we're getting another daemonic looking character for Khorne too that isn't just a big daemon prince type creature.
Once again the model isn't going to be for everyone and there are a few things I'd change about the model. I would see if I could remove the fighting claw and leave it as a gauntlet of some kind instead.
Changes In The Works?
BoLS have also heard news that there are some changes in the works for the rules. It breaks down to there being more bonuses for players who are mismatched. The degree by which you are mismatched then feeds into boons you get from the various realms you're fighting in.
It's good to see that they haven't caved and added points into the game and instead are finding alternative ways to 'balance' the experience. It's certainly in keeping with their new background to have realm based powers.
What do you think of the news?

Great looking model. I would like them to find some balancing method for sure. It’s the main reason one of my buddies won’t play the game. I think people won’t be happy until points are brought back though. But time will tell. I’m a GW fanboy so I’m game for whatever they decide.
With all due respect, points are not going to ‘come back’. They didn’t equate like for like anyway. Those who want them don’t seem to accept that games Workshop want to sell models. There will be no points as such restrictions prevent people fielding (and buying) what they want to.
Me? I really like Age of Sigmar and look forward to having Nagash heading half a dozen dragons, carnosaurs and daemons.
Very cool looking model. His axe is maybe a little bit on the small side…
Well, you know how introverted Khorne worshipers are. A natural shrinking violet like our friend here wouldn’t want to draw attention to himself by having a really big axe or anything, so he went for that dainty little number instead…
If what you say is true, I’m glad that points are gone for good. I have played a few games and with armies that are not in the starter set. I think there is a lot more going for this game than people are willing to admit or try. Time will tell.
Hmmm I do like the model. It is something in a way fresh from GW. However, the axe is a bit too big in my opinion. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the AoS thing and willing to try it as soon as I finish painting my Skavens.
@yavasa Skaven are great in AoS. They can retreat from combats and still charge…..you can just skitter around the battlefield taking a few chunks out of units on the way. Then end up behind enemy lines fighting warmachines and wizards. You are going to love it!
Now, how cool is that. Thanks for the info. I do have a question tho. It seems that GW changed bases to round ones for Skaven units as I have read today on their webpage. Can I have my old bases?
@yavasa Yes mine are. Just finished a nice big unit with space filler diorama! Look nice in the cabinet between games lol! I actually find the square bases work really well. Everything is measured from the model now not the base anyhow. We still use movement trays until the melee kicks off. Once pulling in we found models could snuggle up closer and therefore easy to get more guys in range to fight. Most weapons have a 1 inch melee range now.
Thanks. Now I know that I will jump into AoS.
Even with the foot on rock syndrome, that is a very nice model that feels entirely appropriate for a Khornate faction, and especially for the Aos take on everyone’s favourite axe loving psychopaths.
Again, they need to put their artists and sculptors in the same room.
I play it as it is, a fun game and don’t take anything too serious. There are some units that can have different weapons and yo have to wonder why you would take a sword when an axe has the same stats but is -1 on the save, so from that point there should be a better balance.
So far nothing in the releases of AoS impressed me model wise. I can’t say anything about the rules because I haven’t tried them.
Their models are top notch as always. But I got in to Fantasy because of the way it played. This game is not like that at all. If they never bring back points that is fine but there MUST be some sort of game balance mechanic some where. Like One Warscroll has X spearmen where another has Y Khorne Juggernauts. Please just something so my friends and I don’t have to scratch our heads forever to get something that is close to even to have a good game.
Field units in numbers as per box or multiples of. Each units cost in ‘slots’ is Attacks+Wounds xmodels / 10 and then round. Round as you would normally do in maths but have the option of rounding the other way if gaming experience tells you otherwise. Simple system that works.
@hithero We have played 5-6 games now. Limited it to 70 or 80 wounds. 2-3 characters 0-3 warmachines/monsters. Every game went down to the wire. All open battle with warscrolls for existing old world models. Ors/goblins, High Elves, Dwarfs and Skaven. Mixed them up a few times too. However, my small collections were built around the old army books so have several infantry units etc and a splattering of heros/monsters. I’m just mindful that if anyone builds an army for AoS that balance may be a bit more tested! I hope not. AoS has really kicked our group back into… Read more »
Really? It killed my groups desire to play AoS because we loved the rules for 8th, except the big titan block. But no one really used them so we had a blast. The game now is just so simple with no way out of the box to balance it, made it undesirable to play.
I hope Fantasy’s sacrifice will appeases the Dark Gods and they to not twist 40k in a similar fashion.
I know where you are coming from @spacewolflord but its lack of out the box balance/guidelines enable every “two gamers getting together” scenario (best mates or strangers) to implement the best most agreeable fix on a game by game basis. May be a fanciful way of looking at it but it has the potential to suit everyone…..
That model is over cartoony to my taste.
I wish GW would move away from chess-set chic. The model looks very static, like he’s posing for a photo or something. Have him swinging the damn axe! I think GW do lovely detailed minis but sometimes they look like they should be mounted on the bonnet of a car. They should allow themselves to be influenced by Malifaux or Hasslefree, and embrace poses that are really kinetic and exciting.
I don’t think it’s bad – it’s very good actually – but the pose is dull.
Freaking love this game! My old empire have laid in a box broken for the last 7 years now they are getting the love they deserved! Fixing and repainting has given the army a new life. Had some awesome games and now saving for the scenario book.
Best thing is the no points so no meta.
If people are clamouring for a system to “balance” then just use what I do:
Games are at x wounds
Must have a model with the hero keyword (but not totem)
May take 1 model with the totem keyword
May take up to 2 additional models with the hero keyword
Must take 2 non-hero, non-monster units/warscrolls
May take additional warscrolls until wound allocation is filled
If you have the ability to summon unit’s (e.g chaos wizards being able to summon demons, slaan summoning additional seraphon) they must count towards your remaining wounds total.
