I love dwarves/dwarfs of all shapes and sizes. My favourite of this lot would have to be the AoW slayer, but I have something I love about dwarves from all ranges. The Warhammer ones have that unique style and have an Anglo-Saxon feel to them. Other ranges really play on the Norse thing and that’s fantastic. I would love to get my hands on a lot of the reaper mini dwarves, they have some good character too them. The only dwarves I have a slight problem with are the Mantic ones for KoW. They are just incredibly annoying to paint… Read more »
I always thought that confrontation dwarves where great as they looked more like a pair of feet and hands on a big head. They looked real funny. Its a shame we can’t get them now 🙁
Oooh ! Excellent video, Andy !
I definitely need Mannikin figures…
The Hasslefree Svala model is amazing, as ever… And I was very happily surprised with the Wargames Foundry “ball” dwarf !
And I want to paint a dwarf, now…

Good review – big fans of Dwarves and really liked the comparisons.
I second the earlier comment about the AoW Dwarf box set – it’s pretty awesome. However, I also really enjoy the LoTR Dwarves for more gritty and “realistic” looking models.
The Lord of the Rings Dwarves are pretty awesome. Very nice models and they have that real high fantasy feel to them which I think is nice. It’s good to see dwarves with bows as well from them – ala the Dwarf Ranger box lol
Good vid.
really cool vid. I was wondering how the AoW berserkers where when compared to the mantic range. They are a cheaper alternative then the mantic produced metal minis which aren’t in the same style anyways. You should do orcs next!
Great video. Great idea.
I think someone should note that the Mantic Iron Guard dwarfs (metal elites) are noticeably bigger than their normal dwarfs and the Berserkers are much smaller – and more in proportion. None of these would make consistent proxies for Warhammer note, Mantic for whatever reason, decided to make their dwarfs far larger. HOWEVER Mantic dwarfs are PERFECT for Westwind Dwarfs (Dwarf Wars) – check them out! They even do Scottish dwarfs! And cheap as chips!
Just looked at those Westwind Dwarves…very very cool. Would love some of their heroes.
I’m fond of them. They’re bigger dwarfs, Mantic Ironguard sized, mind. But £11 for ten? They’re literally giving them away. They do orks, goblins, elves and humans as well.
I was gonna say Elves next, but I’m sure those’ll be along before too awfully long. 😉
Great video Andy, and great timing as well, as I’ve been getting on towards finishing a WHFB Dwarf army, and was really curious as to the size of the AoW Berzerkers side-by-side with the GW lot. Thanks!
A quick not about the GW Thunderer: he’s a wee bit shorter/more compact then the rest of their Dwarf range, as he’s from the starter and a single piece.
Cheers!
I’ve already filmed some Elves… they’ll be out maybe next week.
I was a little bit disappointing you didn’t have any Reaper dwarves. Their Warlords line has a lot of awesome models. They say they try for true-scale, but some of them end up being heroic. Although instead of 28mm like most companies, they do make the claim for 25mm, so my reaper minis are just a bit shorter and thinner than the rest of my dwarves. From what it looks like, mantic has some pretty big dwarfs. I only own a few mantic elves, and those are pretty small. Ill need to buy a troop box of mantic dwarfs now… Read more »
A pretty sweet paint-job on that berserker lord as well!
I don’t have any Reaper Dwarves in the studio, but I do have a Reaper Elf up next week… stay tuned for that.
I’ve dug out a Privateer Press Dwarf, an old Confrontation spud-head… I’m going to film an addendum… back soon!
Cool, look forward to the Elven, Orcish and Human videos 🙂
Its too bad Mantic didnt give you any space dwarfs to show off.
nice vid i actually thought my avatars of war dwarfs go well with my mantic dwarfs looks like i need to look again lol
First off great video I have been looking for this kind of thing for along time and I wanted to start an elven army I have bits and pieces around but I was wondering about mixing and matching but there is nothing around.
The thing I am suprised you didn’t do for dwarves is http://www.sciborminiatures.com/en_,index.php
Dwarves seem to be there thing, I mean they have alot of things going but there dwarves seem to be really good.
Anyway I am looking forward to the next one with bated breath.
I was thinking the same thing. Scibor dwarves are really cool and some day I would like to see you do an unboxing of at least something of scibors. So we can all see what its quality really is like.
We don’t have any Scibor stuff… otherwise I would unbox it.
The Dwarves from Scibor are the best in his range… IMHO
Great idea for a series! But where are the Reaper, Scibor, and Chaos Dwarves?
Can you do a comparison of Perry Miniatures vs GW? I’m making an empire army, but I hate the GW models. How come Orcs have shoes but empire halberdiers are barefoot?
Cool video – really helpful, didn’t realise who big the mantic dwarves are…
Next up – how about sci-fi grunts. Imperial guard types. Comparing pig iron, gw, fw and many others out there…
Nice video, and some rather eclectic minis in there, which is always a good thing.
My choice would be the avatars of war ones if I was starting a dwarf army of some description I think, regardless of which game it was for.
On a side note, I’ve always found the kneeless Games Workshop models slightly disturbing.
How do they go for a dump for instance?
is there a link to the thinner guy with the top hat ? he looks so awesome 😛
Always prefered true-scale, heroic-scale just looks too cartoony to me, personally. Still waiting for someone to make dwarves I like – I prefer the more mythological ones that were made out of stone and really really ugly, never been able to find any like that sadly.
I’d be interested to see a comparison of different tanks from different ranges, or of different powered armour, like the Space Rangers, Viridian marine variants, GW space marines, Ral Partha Union power armour, etc.
I really like this topic. Thank you for making this video. A suggestion, please use a metric ruler and use it to show the scale more clearly. Also, can you suggest a “railroad” scale for terrain (trees, buildings, vehicles, etc.). This would be most helpful as a lot of the railroad scenery is quite nice and would really prove useful in populating the battlefield. Again, thank you! I am looking forward to more!!!
Red Box Dwarfs would be worth including as they always look pretty good on the photos. More of the “true scale” proportions. Would be interesting to see them next to their erstwhile kin.
