New Chaos Knights & Fiery Dwarfs On The Way For Age Of Sigmar
December 3, 2015 by brennon
It looks like it's going to be a busy month for Chaos with Games Workshop releasing a new set of Chaos Knights now known as the Varanguard or Knights Of Ruin. These images from the new White Dwarf dropped this week showing off the three new mounted warriors in all their glory and you can see them HERE.
Chaos Knights
All of the Knights are actually, in my opinion at least, looking rather awesome. I don't think that they're as foreboding and intense looking as the Chaos Knights we had in the past (I kind of liked them entirely encased in Chaos Armour) but they have a good new 'Age of Sigmar' look to them.
They fit in well with the aesthetic that we've seen building from the likes of the new Archaon model and I like the twist on the mutated horses to make them look more monstrous. The action poses they're in are also quite nice too.
Fiery Dwarfs
As well as the addition of new Chaos Knights to the Age Of Sigmar throng we also got a teaser (yet to be confirmed as real or not) of a Duardin or Red Slayer sprue which apparently popped up inside a Tau box someone opened.
The sprue, seen HERE, shows the standard bearer model for a new Slayer unit with a flaming beard and an icon representing Grimnir in all his fire-wreathed glory as their leader. If it's real then I might be getting rather excited come next year for Dwarf releases.

What do you think of the Knights and Dwarfs?

Such a shame the game sucks.
I rather like the chaos knights, for once. Very dramatic. I’d have to see more of the dwarves to judge. So far, a lot of AoS miniatures have not been disappointing, art-wise. However, as usual, the price tag will make me run away…
The knights look to be pretty cool and while I’m certainly aware that a photo of a mag. picture is hardly the greatest quality, something about the paintjob just makes it hard to see (does that make sense?). A different colour set might make it a bit easier to see / appreciate the model although at least it isn’t a Khorne. The Dwarf…I honestly can’t tell what the final model would look like, but it’s good to hear that GW are starting to give out new models to some of the other factions. Fairly optimistic it’ll look good, as I… Read more »
The photo of the three knights with Archaon in the background was especially bad for this, at least to these eyes. I felt like I was staring at a magic eye picture trying to figure out what the image was.
Yes I really struggle to make sense of the pictures too.
I think it is the colour scheme, the black with highlights adds too much detail.
I think that the Chaos knight models are excellent though, very nice indeed. I would probably paint mine red, maybe black horse and red rider to differentiate.
Just a heap of mindless clutter.
good to see new dwarves of any kind, but I fear the cost will be beyond all but the tallest dwarf lovers of this or any game.Does anyone hear rate the West winds Dwarves from there range as well as myself and much more stumpy to the buck!
I like all The Dwarf Wars stuff. Not sure what the rules are but they are written by Frank Chadwicknso always worth a look
@chrisg If I’m going to spend premium money on a dwarf figure, or figures, I’ll get them from Scibor. Cheaper rank and file: Momminiaturas.
I’m also a big fan of their Chaos beastie. If I’m going to spend $25 on a mounted Chaos dude, I’ll get this one:

Actually, I have seven. They’re resin, and yes, they need fixing. The head is too small, so I swapped it out with a GW Chaos head, and gave him a spear with an overhand grip.
Oh wow! Those Chaos Knights are amazing!
While I find it hard to work out what the Dwarf model might look like when assembled, some of the individual components, like the axe, look rather good.
I personally like the new Varanguard Chaos Knights – they really do look like they would hit like several tons of bricks and bring a new twist on an established unit type that helps convey how much in the ascendancy Chaos has been prior to the Storm of Sigmar.
Those Chaos Knights are actually rather good. I can’t really say about those dwarves yet until I see better image.
I get the feeling the designer had conan the barbarian on repeat while cad fiddling those up, just dont feel very chaotic to me
That’s funny. Some kid opens a Tau box and new unreleased dwarf models come out.
The models look nice, but the other knights they had were fine and affordable. Unless they are some sort of exalted unit and the other box set it still around I’m ok with it.
The new AoS Chaos figures are actually a blessing, as I just got five of the old ones for $3.25 on Ebay :-).
From what I’ve heard, these are a “elite” type unit, and aren’t replacing the old ones. They are also apparently massive from what I’ve heard, and better be to warrant the price (3 for £60 I’ve heard)
That’s a big red beard, and a pretty impressive mohawk.
Unmitigated detail, zero negative space to make the relevant stuff pop. My missus laughed when she saw them. “You won’t be laughing when you see the price,” I told her.
How do we fix them? @manpug is spot on. The old ones are better, and I still have some. That’s how I’m going to fix them.
The dwarf might be good, but not $40 good.
It’s not like there’s a lack of possible proxies, either…
I’ve found the AoS releases to be a bit hit and miss but the Chaos Knights I do like the look of.
I have to say I like the new chaos knights. Not sure I would get those guys as I would do nurgle and tzeentch armies(suppose I could paint them in those colors). The price however is getting really old.
The dwarf stuff I am looking forward to but I need to see pics of finished models.
The chaos knights look great though I agree that a different color scheme would probably help. The models do sort of get lost with the colors they have chosen.
Don’t know what it is about the Knights but I’m underwhelmed. I think part of it is the mutated horses – would be nice on one or two to add variety, but doesn’t work as the standard for me. Maybe I’m just too stuck in an Old World mindset and they actually do fit the fluff of AoS.
I’m far mor interested in the dwarf – that standard would be very nice for Chaos Dwarf players. 😀
If only they looked like knights on horses.
