New Celestant Prime Spotted For Age Of Sigmar
August 24, 2015 by brennon
The Celestant Prime has been spotted for Age Of Sigmar by Games Workshop. Armed with Ghal Maraz this is a Greater Daemon sized addition to the armies of Sigmar and it looks fairly awesome. You can see the model HERE plus the rules too...
The model squares up against the Glottkin and has the wings of the Prosecutors. He is armed with the mythical hammer, Ghal Maraz, as I mentioned above and the Cometstrike Sceptre which has it's own bunch of cool rules.
Model-wise I think he's actually fairly awesome and the only thing I would change is the painting of the 'fates' around his base to the light blue that I've used on my models.
Rules Of The Prime
When it comes to the actual rules Ghal Maraz is a deadly weapon giving the model two attacks with a 3+ to hit and 2+ to wound. It's rend value is three giving it the ability to remove practically any armour save and after that you've still got to contend with it's three wounds it delivers!
The Cometstrike Sceptre can bring down comets from the heavens to hurt your foes, grabbing them from the skies to cause mortal wounds on units it hits. His Retribution From On High rule is fantastic too where he can remain in the heavens, powering up Ghal Maraz, before striking down on the battlefield and sowing fear wherever he lands.
Last but not least he is surrounded by Celestial Fates who help him see the fortunes of battle unfold. Once per turn he can change a dice roll to one of his choice. Pretty nasty.
You can find out more about the model on the link above.
Thanks to MyWargame.com for the images...
What do you think of the Prime?

Still don´t get how they can forge those shoulder pads in one piece? I miss studs and signs of the armour being put together in several pieces. Otherwise it just looks likes it´s in another scale and to “toyish”. Didn´t they use to put more effort into details like that?
Check out Google for real armour, no problem at all for mundane human smiths, let alone magical dwarves.
Aah. More yawn…
There is also a competition on GW web page where you can win some terrain. All you have to do is count the skulls on the Direstone Redoubt fortress 😀

Lol, is true ! Good they had sense of humor and first time i see them doing this kind of things, well done GW.
He’s a nice enough mini, not sure on all the swirlyness beneath him but I do like the lions face in his chestplate.
I’m pretty ok with the swirlies but not sure about all the junk and trinkets floating about inside it. Did he drop all his belongings as he took off?
Actually one of the first AOS releases that I quite like. Has a certain “Saint Celestine after a slap up curry and a bevvy” kinda charm.
Also the first AOS release I’ve seen to reiterate why GW needs to FAQ the measurement rules in AOS. If I’m measuring model to model, and Ghal Maraz has a 2″ range, do I measure from the magic spinny clouds, from the cloak, or from the weapon/body? What counts as “model”? (the tip of Ghal Maraz appears to stand at least 2″ above the heads of his cohorts)
Any part is the model, that is why extra rules or clarifications are not required.
It’s not as clear cut as that – in your eyes it may mean “any part that isn’t just the black plastic base” – but I’d argue there’s plenty of times when a rock, magic effect, long robes or something similarly not intended to be part of the “fighting model”, but more as a scenic/thematic addition to it. Yes, I’m being pedantic as myself and most everyone else is measuring base to base – but still haven’t seen any compelling gameplay argument why you would remove the abstraction of base to base measurement, and the line regarding what constitutes the… Read more »
The base is surely the round or square bit of plastic/metal your model is stuck to. Just measure from the edge of that base where it makes contact with the table just like 99% of war games out there. My local GW has house ruled base to base measuring as well as my other FLGS’ and gaming clubs. Nobody seem’s to have had any problems with figuring out what the base is, it”s standard wargaming procedure.
The simplest way to deal with it is just measure from the base. We switched to that within in 2 minutes of our first game and never looked back. Really enjoying AoS at the moment. Nice, simple and casual fun.
When I look at those pictures all I see is an incoherent mess
Reasonably pretty miniature. Just getting a little bored with these guys now.
He looks ace!
With those rules I feel almost tempted to use the Knight models Thor model, Ghal maraz being Mojlnir and comets representing his command of lightning, and of course he can fly!
That said, I think it’s a nice model. It will be interesting to see what the painting community do with it as it has a lot of potential from free hand on the cloak to object source lighting with the celestial fates.
Looks gorgeous.
Looks to me like they have tried to do the same sort of sculpt that they did with Nagash for The End Times. Although I dont think this model is bad, to my eyes Nagash looked a lot better.
The figure itself looks great, but as for the swirly wirly stuff beneath him, it just doesn’t work.
Holy moly! I can only imagine the fun to be had transporting this behemoth safely. I still have nightmares about packaging my Ogre’s Thundertusk!
For the model itself, it’s certainly big, brash and in keeping with their current aesthetic for AoS. Not for me now, but I’d be interested to see it through my younger eyes, I suspect I would think it pretty awe inspiring…heck a free Khorne Beserker with my first WD was enough to flip my lid back then.
I rather like this model. It is over the top to be sure, but all the elements make sense form a fluff standpoint – the Celestant-Prime is basically the first ever Stormcast Eternal and the most powerful of his kind, and so is essentially like the other Eternals only dialed up to eleven. The wings are similar to those of Prosecutors, the armour to that of other Lord Celestants (which is itself a more ornate version of Paladin armour), and the halo is simply a more exaggerated version of the oft repeated motif found throughout the range. As for Ghal… Read more »
This one does not change my opinion on sigmarites. Same fantasy Space Marine look but in bigger form.
Tremendous…shudder…how much?
It’s GW. If you have to ask, it will be too much. 😉
Meh. The chest armour looks like an angry puppy, if you view the pauldrons as ears lol. Sigmarites so far are a one-trick pony. It all looks the same to me.
Rather like it myself! I dig how the cloak thing turns into the swirly magical weirdness and the sunburst wings. Prolly wouldn’t buy it though.
The rules for the Celestant-Prime seem rather fun. I especially like the option to continue powering up Ghal Maraz in Azyr, but at the risk of leaving it too late to impact the game meaningfully. It evokes a nice fluff related image while also offering a tactical decision in how to use the model. There is also quite a bit of synergy here with other Stormcast units, from pairing the negative Bravery modifier caused when the model arrives with that offered by Decimators to inflict a hilariously nasty -4 Bravery upon a unit you really want to get rid of… Read more »
I really like this model. I think it is spectacular!
I was expecting some sort of epic, fantasy-themed Hulkbuster. I am disappoint.
He is kinda big, yes, if thats a quality marker for you, so be it. I find him very unimaginative, just see another medium sized mini hovering on some straps.
Enough of Sigmarines already ! Cant see em anymore.
Interesting seeing the range of responses here (and much more interesting to read than a mixture of ‘I hate it’ / ‘I love it’). I’m really not a fan I have to say, but I would like to learn more about the setting of the game.
Not really keen on the junk under him. It looks like they tried to make orrery added to the cosmic energy. If they had one big central orrery (mechanical solar system) with the energy coming out of it then it would be cool.
