Call Upon Dark Magic With The Gaunt Summoner For Age Of Sigmar
December 12, 2015 by brennon
Games Workshop have a smaller release this week but it comes in the form of the Gaunt Summoner. This eldritch spellweaver works for the Chaos God Tzeentch, the Changer of Ways and looks like he has many schemes to enact from atop his floating disc...
As you can see he comes atop this spiked disc with a flowing cloak, an alien look to his face (warped by magic no doubt) and a staff bearing his Gods idol atop it. You can see the model in more detail below but I actually quite like this one. I think he would work equally well for both Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000.
One of the things that I like seeing Games Workshop do is making it so that their floating and/or flying miniatures don't always need a flying stand. Instead they have incorporated some of the sculpt into the design so that, as in this case, it can be lifted up atop a wave of magical energy.
While some might say that this particular sculpt is a little too ornate and over the top I think it fits in well with the theme of Tzeentch especially. Once again, a good miniature from within the theme of Age of Sigmar.
You can check out its rules HERE via the free downloadable PDF.
What do you think of the Gaunt Summoner?

Once again it’s really pricey for a single model (no surprise there!), but a beautiful piece of work all the same. I’m just getting into the AoS after a long absence from wargaming, and I really like the way the Everchosen are developing. Archaon will forever remain out of my price-bracket though!
Wow an AoS mini i like(!)
That said the face looks like a tau head with the eyes filled in…
Gorgeous looking miniature. ill be picking one up to use as a Tzeentch Herald for 40k.
Reminds me of that thing from Hellboy
You’re right it does look like that thing.
Pricey once again; however, I may actually pick this one up, very nice miniature indeed. A great add-on to my 40K Tzeentch army.
Not bad at all. That head sculpt looks rather unique.
Has a kind of pans labyrinth feel to it which I like but beyond my price range for one model.
Creepy looking fellow. I like him, he is a bit pricey but I’m kind of numb to GW pricing so nothing really upsets me anymore regarding that.
Its nice to see in a mini that evokes the older style of chaos in a game as far gone as AoS. The cackling faces in the book and creepy fish like staff symbol remind me of the old liber chaotica artwork.
That being said this guy is also no more expensive then the old disc rider model and is far superior.
Nice model but incredibly expensive. The new normal for GW
Excellent and unique model… However, it’s about the price of a 54mm display miniature ! If I had a specific project for this miniature, I would pay the price in a heartbeat, for art’s sake, but I’d not even consider it for gaming. There are other chaos sorcerers, even though none of them seem to have that flair !
I bought several of the demon Chaos thingies when they were $16, and even that seemed steep.
I like the miniature, but I have two critisisms.
1. The artwork for Tzeentch sorcerers usually has these buff dangerous looking guys. That never really translates to the miniatures, they tend to be slender.
2. I don’t like the skirt. It’s too neat, it looks like he likes to twirl around and watch the skirt go wide.
But overal this is one of the first Tzeenchian models that I like.
I so hope he is summoning a big Plastic Kit for the Lord of Change !
Pretty sweet mini but GWs price hikes are unreal. I really cant imagine this will help them to stop their downwards trend with customers. Their fanbase shrinks to a hard core but squeezing this generous hard core like this…
Id definatly get this model but i dont like encouraging GWs prices by ignoring their insanity. If this model is setting standard for the new tzeentch id probably get a small force just because, but theres no customer respect here so still skipping GW.
Love it. I’m a sucker for all things Tzeentchy. I may even pick him up for WFB 8th ed.
I think this is the second AoS model I like.
I like it. Price be damned.
And actually I comparied with the other Tzeentch stuff on discs and they are about the same price.
But to be honest I would hope on day they would drop the price of their stuff. Not gonna hold my breath for it however.
Has someone just gone through downvoting everyone??
I don’t know. It happens sometimes. Some people just have nothing to do in their lives…
The evil call of the dreaded Down Thumb, only to be used in emergencies 😛
I wonder if someone told them these points actually do nothing on the website…
What?? I thought we could cash them in at some point!
Hardly worth it. GW is fading to irrelevance all on its own.
I think that happened with the comments for the Dwarven scenery from Mantic as well.
Better… except for the price. Pass.
I like it a lot. I don’t think the disk does a lot for the mini. It’s seems GW are very big on floating things at the moment. That said I do still really like the figure.
In game it does a lot – it gives its disc rider the ability to fly.
The Disc of Tzeentch – and sorcerers riding them – have been around for ages, so fit the theme to a tee.
I don’t know what it is about this mini, but for some reason I find it a bit meh. I especially dislike the ‘flying stand’ as it doesn’t look very well done to me.
That being said, looking at the pics on here, it strikes me that it you removed the headdress save for the bottommost eyes, or altogether and added you own eyes where the headdress had joined the head hammerhead shark style, then it would actually work quite well for 40k as a Xenos sorcerer.
That’s a very…tall hat.
A tenner, yup I’d buy it……but at 24 quid?
