New Battlesmiths & Berserkers Lead The Charge Of The Age Of Sigmar Fyreslayers
January 23, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop have added two more heroes to their roster of champions that will be leading the Fyreslayers of Age of Sigmar into battle. Here we have both the Battlesmith and the Grimwrath Berserker who take the fight to the enemies of Grimnir on foot...
Battle Standards & Battle Axes
First up we have the Battlesmith who has some rather awesome rules to go along with his model. He is able to continually inspired his troops to fight better and when he dies the Fyreslayers can rally around the fallen standard and defend it fiercely.
One of those who might want to continually keep fighting is the Grimwrath Berserker who swings into battle with a massive fyrestorm greataxe that looks like it's laced with obsidian.
I think of the two models I would have to go with the Battlesmith as my favourite of the two. The Grimwrath Berserker is awesome looking but it would have been good to see him with a bit more dynamism. For example him leaping forward in a similar pose but with the axe held above his head ready to crush some skulls.
I think the 'side swiping' stance is also underused and if done right could lend some weight to models as they seek to cleave through a group of foes.
A Grand Alliance
As well as the Fyreslayers we have a new book. Grand Alliance: Chaos gives you plenty of additional background and game options to choose from when assembling a force that will fight under Archaon.
It collects together all of the information on the various parts of the Chaos army into one place alongside their Warscrolls and plenty of battalion ideas for when you want to form them into something coherent.
I'm not entirely sure how good these books are since surely over time they are going to be chopping and changing units from the various armies and adding in new ones. Considering all of the PDFs are free maybe it's just better to stick with what you get in the app?
Will you be getting any of these warriors?

well they are getting better, shame the rank and file are so average.
rank and file? wrong game mate…..
lol good point
Only thing I like about these is Grimwarth Berserker’s pose.
The Grimwrath Bezerker is my favourite Fyreslayer model so far, and both these characters have some pretty effective and very characterful rules and fluff. I like the conceit of the warrior artisan/skald for the Battlesmith, and his buffing abilities reflect that role. The Bezerker is probably closer to the classic Slayer archetype than any other Fyreslayer, and the way the rules really reward getting stuck in to combat at the earliest opportunity reminds me of how Gotrek used to be depicted in the Gotrek and Felix novels
No thanks.
Nope
Still not a fan of the fyreslayers. Only part I like is the standard the Battlesmith, and again, only because of its use for Chaos Dwarfs.
So… Another book to buy for a game with ‘free rules’…
I agree with regard to the battletomes. Although this looks to be All the chaos warscrolls ( including skaven) together including retro figures and all the new stuff. It is a very good price for all that collected together and glossy bookified with pictures of the painted figures (presumably). 20 quid for 300 pages of useful info compared to 35 quid for a battletome full of stuffer.
Probably couldn’t print the PDFs out for that.
Somewhat of a tangent, but the front cover of the next WD has come to light, and it is rather nifty artwork of the Celestant Prime looking like he is about to ruin the day of some Chaos types. Here’s a link to war of Sigmar;

An even bigger tangent (sorry about this), but do I spy with my little eye… some Wulfen?

the banner look like they have acquired? from the lizardmen?
Sorry these are a pass.
I’ve enough of these Fyreslayers, they are too much for me. Thanks, but no thanks. “There’s a bucket outside I’ve got to be sick into.”
Avatars of War :p
I do like this faction, though I have to say I’m not too keen on the helmets. I loved the older style of just strait hawks. All-in-all though they aren’t too bad, and kind of drawing me to WH again if I don’t look at price.
love the new rules, but meh the new IP.
It just dawned to me, because they transferred to round bases and no longer need to rank up, it’s sort of freeing for the sculptors at GW. Think about it, that explains all the YMCA poses that are so common in the new fantasy releases from them.
It would only be good to free up the sculptors for new poses if the new poses are good/make sense.
They might be great on a float, during a carnival…
I’ve been saying this all along… It’s the bear wagon at the Gay Pride parade in Gran Canaria.
They are ott, with the helmets making them look really stupid I’m passing on this too.
