The Age Of Sigmar Realmgate War Continues With Balance Of Power Book
January 30, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop continue their Realmgate War in Age of Sigmar with the second book in the series, pushing the campaign onwards. Balance of Power is the next chapter in the story as mighty armies clash and the background of Age of Sigmar gets built up...
Inside Balance Of Power...
"The Realm of Life is falling apart. Athelwyrd has been destroyed. Alarielle and the sylvaneth flee, as Chaos begins to exert its festering grip; Realmgates are corrupted and even the Stormcast Eternals may not be enough to stop the putrefaction. In the Realm of Fire, the Skaven make their move against the Fyreslayers.
In the Realm of Metal, Vandus Hammerhand leads a Stormhost in an attempt to stop the Lord of Change Kiathanus gaining indescribable power. And if these threats were not enough, the Exalted Grand Marshal of the Apocalypse himself makes his presence felt…"
It certainly sound like they are pushing the narrative aspect of the games you play in Age Of Sigmar and I think as thinks continue more people will be drawn to the prospect of playing the game by this story based nature. Admittedly they will still have to get their hands on all the books to do so.
Chaos Champions
In addition to the new Balance of Power book we have a lot of Chaos kits getting repackaged with round bases. There are even some golden oldies in the collection like the Chaos Champions...
...and these Chaos Familiars.
While the Chaos Familiars have a few great pieces and some that haven't stood up to the test of time the Champions look great. I love that big chunky HeroQuest look and while they might not fit within the idea of the regular Warrior they would work nicely as characters in your army.
What do you think of the new book?

the prices arent actually that bad…….
oops, it appears my opinion is wrong
That’ll teach you to post something positive about AoS. 😉
For models that have been knocking around longer than some of the players have been alive.
Just about every other industry/market stuff goes down in price when it becomes an older model and newer stuff has been released, not spiral upwards 😉
Love these old sculpts. Best mini’s in the last 10 years of GW!
More like 20-30 years 😉
Those old Chaos Champions are awesome!
I remember having the top centre Chaos Champion 25 years ago!
One of my favourite minis of all time.
Wonder how much it would cost to get a new one and would I feel like I’d have to take a long shower to get clean after buying it?
We are finally getting a look at Undead in the AoS setting in this book. Given that Vampire Counts were my favourite Old Hammer army, I am very interested in seeing in which direction the Deathlord faction is going.
Those old school Champions of Chaos really bring memories and are more pleasing to look at than anything new that GW has released for AoS.
Yes again smart move from Games workshop,, Yes by age of siggie the rules are FREE, you just have to buy ALL OUR campaign/extra rules/novels books !!!! How many Books are allready out there for AOS ??? Does Games workshop we are all STUPID, And know they starting repack old metal minis ( 20 years old) and some look nice from the front, but TURN the minis 90 degree and it is all flat ! But this is only the opinion of a warhammer fantasy massive battle player for 20 years, that love his big blocks of minis on square… Read more »
Same as 40k and WH then?
Well, you don’t have to buy any of those books – the core ruleset and the Warscrolls themselves (which, leaving aside models and terrain, are all you actually need to play the game) are all available for download for free. The Time of war rules, Warscroll battalions, additional artwork and campaign stuff are all extras. Nice extras I grant you, but not one of them is essential to playing the game. You can certainly play Age of Sigmar with almost no investment at all, but the richer and deeper the narrative wargaming experience you want, the more you have to… Read more »
If one has lost the ability to model, then one must book.
Golden Oldies? Ebay!
I heard a rumour that there was going to be some Slaanesh fluff in the new book so fingers crossed.
Loving Balance of Power being a product name in AoS. Chutzpah GW. Chutzpah.
haha yeh that name is bluddy hilariously ironic!
I remember the two axed champion and familiars’ from way way way way back.
Love the old Chaos Champions! I would actually like to find out more about what they are doing with the AoS setting, but am put off by the amount of scattered content there is already and the feeling that none of it really matters. Already it looks like Monday: massive war with the fate of the world hanging in the balance; Tuesday: even massiver battle with the fate of the world hanging in the balance; Wednesday, guess what? A humoungous battle with the fate of the world hanging in the balance… I may well be wrong, but it’s not sounding… Read more »
If I had some WHF minis I would probably give this a go. But the prices on some of these AoS stuff is just absurd. I want to love it, I like it, really want to play. Just… Cant take that plunge.
Not a lifelong GW Player. Always loved the fluff, the games, not so much… My predicition for the line will be the biggest battle to end a long line of biggest final battles ending with the Stormcasts and Chaos pulling back to the sidelines for any reason you like. Not gone, just not the main focus. This would allow for the return to smaller type battles, that are important, but not universe shattering. Then, I see a a new Not So Old World, updated with room to grow in the fiction, and round bases for smaller skirmish type battles. What… Read more »
Wait, so a gameworld that is a year old ish, has less depth then a 30 year old one?
The shock and horror.
And most of what you write @vogless is pure non sense, as most of the rampant hate against AoS is. Since most of the band wagon haters have never read anything from it.
His post above is not pure nonsense 😉
Sometimes the past is best left in the past. I mean I like nostalgia, nothing wrong with it, but these, I didn’t like them first time around.
Ummmmm, I LIKE AOS… It’s the ONLY GW Fantasy stuff I’ve ever bought….
The rest is my pure guess. We’ll see.
Look at what Marvel did with Secret Wars. Again, just my guess.
