Xenos & Chaos Sets Join Warhammer 40K’s Boarding Actions
February 15, 2023 by brennon
Games Workshop are getting around to helping the Xenos forces of Warhammer 40,000 with some new Boarding Patrol sets that are going to be coming up for pre-order soon. These will give you good starting points for playing out games of Boarding Actions on the tabletop in the tight confines of grimdark Sci-Fi space hulks.

Before we dive into these, it is interesting to think about how long these are going to be around for. They appear to be dropping as limited releases from Games Workshop but I wish that they had made these more of a permanent fixture. It would be nice to think that Boarding Actions will continue into the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 and these would have been a great starting point for a lot of folks getting into the game. A bit of a shame but they were coming in at a pretty decent price point.
We start off this look at the new Boarding Patrol sets with some Xenos. The Genestealer Cults are going to be sneaking their way around tight corridors and getting ready for a proper ambush!

This set comes with the rather awesome gunslinger known as the Kelermorph who is then joined by a squad of ten Acolyte Hybrids. These can also be built as Hybrid Metamorphs but you also have access to the towering Abominant and the Mindwyrm plus the Aberrants. Some sneaky elements but also some heavy hitters if you can get them into combat.
The Chaos Daemons also get themselves a brutal set up. This collection is themed around Khorne rather than Chaos Daemons as a whole (which seems a missed opportunity) but you do get a whole host of murderous warp entities.

The set comes with ten Bloodletters alongside ten Flesh Hounds who are going to be doing some serious damage once they get stuck in. Leading the way is the powerful Karanak, The Hound Of Vengeance itself which is going to be quite the handful. I don't think playing a game or two of fetch is going to help when it comes to dealing with these beasties.
More Chaos is in the mix for this preview with the Death Guard also making their way into the heart of various Arks Of Omen and Space Hulks.

Forgoing the need for shambling zombies, a Lord Of Virulence leads the way alongside a set of three Deathshroud Terminators. You've then got ten Plague Marines that make up the bulk of your army. I like the hefty nature of this particular Boarding Patrol and as mentioned, it's good to see that they haven't just relied on throwing zombie chaff into the grinder!
The last of the Boarding Patrols refocuses on the Imperium with the Adeptus Mechanicus getting stuck in to try and stop Vashtorr's plans.

This collection is led by a highly skilled Tech-Priest Dominus who is backed up by a trio of Kataphrons which can be built as Breachers or Destroyers. You've then got five Sicarians (Ruststalkers or Infiltrators) and then ten Skitarii (Rangers Or Vanguard). It's another decent set that comes with some fun ways to cause carnage in Boarding Actions games.
I've really liked the feel of Boarding Actions and what it offers as a player experience in Warhammer 40,000. It's just a shame that cost-wise, it is still going to come in as quite an expensive side-line activity, even if you own armies already! Still, with a bit of graph paper and a pen you could make some battlefields up in no time!
What do you make of these four new Boarding Patrols?

Nice boxed sets
The Death Guard box is nice and the Admech one looks good too. Just a pity they stuck the Dominus model in again. He’s already been in several Admech boxes. I can’t imagine their are too many Admech players without him already
