WizKids Team Up With Games Workshop For Warhammer 40,000 Dice Masters
December 21, 2017 by brennon
It seemed inevitable that as they joined forces, both Games Workshop and WizKids would be bringing a version of Dice Masters to the tabletop. You'll be able to get your hands on Battle For Ultramar in the near future...
The set will come with all the cards and dice you need for two players to get stuck into the fighting between the forces of Nurgle and the Ultramarines on the tabletop - just without miniatures! Here's a taster of some of the cards in the set that have been spoiled so far.
As you can see they've got each of the head honchos in the box with Mortarion and Guilliman making an appearance. The artwork seems to be a mix of the work we've seen from the Codexes but also some more original pieces too.
This isn't where it stops either as they also have two sets which you can pick up, adding more forces to the pot. For example, here we have the Orks and Space Wolves.
Dice Masters has the foundations of a good game although you will sometimes find that it devolves into very similar outcomes on the tabletop. Either way, if you liked the Marvel, DC (and more) versions of the game this is a good game to pick up and play.
Could you be tempted by this new tabletop version of Warhammer 40,000?

I think GW could be renaming ULTRAMAR new Rome with the amount of people frying to burn her?
Interesting. So this is what comes from GW’s and WK’s partnership.
This one seemed kind of a given when they made their deal. Will I buy in? Probably not. Is this somehow damaging the franchise in a way that crummy mobile games aren’t? Definitely not.
I’m interested in where this all keeps moving. While dicemasters might that exciting, Wizkids latest line of unpainted minis looks awesome and they do still have the rights to the attacking system. So lots of potential.
Dice Masters is hugely popular with gamers and at clubs, doing this is a step in the right direction for people who already play it, or who already like 40k to get into other dice masters games, or draw new people entirely into the worlds of Games Workshop without a wallet shattering monetary investment.
Can’t say I have ever had Dice Masters on my radar. This looks neat though. If the quality and price were right I’d pick it up as a quick side game.
Games Workshop has traded in their deal with Fantasy Flight for a bunch of deals with a bunch of game companies- plus they’re doing some of the releases themselves.
I’m not into DIcemasters, so this isn’t a go for me. Honestly, I’m still hoping that Ninja Division gets some 40k Chibis made.
Does this play with the other dicemasters games? If it is a crossover, then I think this pulls 40k into the Tommyverse.
I love 40k, I love Dicemasters. Perfect.
Now to see if it gets the missus wanting to play 40k…
There’s been some spoilers creep out in the last week or so if anyone’s interested?
