White Dwarf Leaks Look Ahead To Gathering Storm III For 40k
February 27, 2017 by brennon
Some new leaks have popped up online showing us a little more of what's inside the latest White Dwarf magazine HERE. With Gathering Storm III just around for corner for Warhammer 40,000 we get a glimpse of the Primarch, Roboute Guilliman's, plans.
There's still a significant amount of mystery surrounding the books and where things go from here but it looks like we are going to be seeing Roboute Guilliman making his way to Terra. On the way however it appears as if he is going to have to contend with one of his brothers, Magnus The Red, who recently caused such chaos (pun intended) for the Space Wolves.
The leaks also give us an insight into just why the design team wanted to pick our Guilliman for resurrection or indeed, a return. Most of the other Primarchs would probably end up racing off to battle but Guilliman is also a strategist and a statesman, able to look beyond battle.
He still fights like a Demi-God on the battlefield however but also works to set other plans in motion. Quite significantly towards the end of the leaked article the designers talk about how this is NOT the End Times of Warhammer 40,000 but instead a possible salvation for the Imperium.
All of the races will feature it seems as the story unfolds but we have plenty more revelations to explore as things continue from Games Workshop.
If you spotted anything of note in the leaks let us know!

I think it is good that they noted that it isn’t the end times, but for some people who look for signs everywhere will say, look it’s the end times, why would you have to refute it if it wasn’t the end times… What I think is interesting is the first guy they brought back was Guilliman, sure his the flag ship marine character however, his not actually very well liked, by most enthusiasts. I know they can’t bring back their most selling guy because he was killed by Horus. However, I think what is interesting is his more of… Read more »
Guilliman is the one who best fits with this story (as said in the link, Leman Russ, who I imagine would be the most popular to return, would just go berserk and kill everybody), and one of the easier Primarchs to resurrect. Personally, I think he’s a good choice and it’ll be interesting to see his reactions to what the Imperium has become (you’ve done what to my dad? Wait….tell me again, what are Tyranids? etc..) And opinions and all that, but I like Guilliman; no gimmicks (/cough blood angels, space wolves…etc..); just a really clever guy who went on… Read more »
I think all of them have gimmicks just his is a more vanilla gimmick which is I’m Roman. Personally I would have liked to see the Lion come back because his gimmick though also vanilla is interesting the I’m a Knight Templar and it leads to a lot more questions of what will he do. Guilliman will largely be, win more Imperium I am the only successor!!! Where as the lion would be alright what is everyone up to, I must make… plans…. And I mean if he turns up somewhere you may question… hey what are you doing here?… Read more »
I imagine we will see the Lion turn up at some point. Maybe one of the reasons he hasn’t, is because the box already included Cypher and GW thought this box of 3 heroes would end up a little too Dark Angel-ly. Plus, the point is that Guilliman is meant to inspire those around him; he more or less created a 2nd Empire and the region in space that belongs to the Ultramarines is probably one of the nicer places to live in the Imperium. The Dark Angels have a big space rock, and the obvious dark secret that half… Read more »
See I think your points are exactly why they should have brought him back, and not in this box set up because if they did other mini’s would have to be different obviously. But as for him ‘just inspiring people’ see there is no way to interrupt Guilliman, his a Roman prude right down to the point where he cannot stand irregularity and uniformity is his weakness. See the Lion thought he was the better choice as warmaster, which means he believes himself to be a successor or the ‘first’ son of the Emperor. What does he do when it… Read more »
A roman prude? I don’t think you know much history if you think the Romans were prudes but ignoring that you seem to basing your opinion of Guilliaman and his Ultramarines on the fluff written by Matt Ward which thankfully GW is trying to move away from. I presume you’ve not read the HH stuff because Guilliaman certainly acknowledged his faults and knew other Primarchs were better than him in other areas. But if you want to ignore all of that, at the end of the day it was Guilliaman who kept the Imperium trucking along after the death of… Read more »
His faults only not that of the Romans, and yes they are trying to move away from the Ward… Til they brought him back… I don’t know most of what I think of Guilliaman comes from the books, he may faces his faults in his own mind but certainly not to his brothers. I mean come the thing with the word bearer’s pretty much says ‘you were told you silly git’. Ridged, is the way to describe him, and that is exactly what I am talking about. He comes in and says do things the right way. Where as the… Read more »
They can write what they want, but it looks bad. Like, the End of Times bad.
During the End Times, I remember coming across assurances that nothing was actually going to end- over and over again.
At the time, I thought that some of those assurances had originated with GW, but now I really wonder.
Right now, it matters to me if they said that they weren’t ending the Old World.
Love my guys in Blue ;D Happy to see Guiliman has returned
I hope it is the end of the imperium as we know it. I think progress would really be made if the emperor was dead (perhaps resurrected).
I always thought the Ultramarine storyline from the Dornian Heresy was fascinating – a breakaway High-Tech Ultramar 🙂

‘Reasonable Marines’
– maybe the new 40k with fix that fan-demand for new narrative 🙂
There are hopes that Roboute Gulliman’s return might result civil war over what is right way for Imperium giving more lore reasons for Imperium vs Imperium matches.
Well it confirms that I am best avoiding reading the actual books, as the summary show desperate plot contrivance and a liberal dose of badly crafted plot hammers. Same as End times, but the end times started well and deteriorated. For me, just let us see 8th, get it on the table and decide if is a game I will enjoy. As for story, it would be far better to do a PP, this is how things are now – this is vaguely what happened and then leave the gap to the host of authors they have to fill in… Read more »
To be fair, the Gathering Storm books read more like passed down history than a narative. I enjoy them for what they are, Its is mostly dry generic coverage, then the occastional character moment seperated by a text box. It reads like a history textbook written while someone tells the story over a camp fire.
Its more the 3/6/9 characters on a magical mystery tour across the galaxy and the we need x here so it will be marlarky. I just think with there very talented pool of black library authors they could handle it so much better. In fairness the retcon and re-writting of the last few years feels weak.
Can’t see Guilliman fighting alone Dorn for sieges would help? And Magnus verses the Wolfs guaranteed to start a fight.
update definitely cant be Dorn he is well dead.
So are Homo Rotundus back yet ?? If not, I will only remain a fringe player in the 40K universe.
I think it makes sense that Guilliman was the first loyalist primarch to be returned (not that there is garuntees of more). He’s the middle of the road primarch. The Born leader who is always cautious of becoming a dictator.
IF other primarchs return, the presence of Guilliman will allow them to “be themselves” without seriously sidetracking the imperium. Russ can go berserk, but likely with direction. Corax could dive into a guerrilla war, but someone would remain to lead.
