Warhammer World Gets New Age Of Sigmar Liberator Statue
July 6, 2015 by brennon
It looks like the Space Marine that stood outside Warhammer World and Games Workshop HQ has now stepped down from duty. He's been replaced by a Liberator from the new Age of Sigmar range!
Not only has the Space Marine been replaced but the Aquila that was emblazoned on the wall above the entrance has also been replaced with the hammer and wings of Sigmar. You can see the old entrance below with the aged Space Marine watching over all who enter.
I'm not sure what's happened to the Space Marine at this point but some of the old plans for the revamped Warhammer World had him standing by the other entrance. Here's hoping he has survived the incursion of Age of Sigmar. In the mean time though it's quite a big move by Games Workshop!
I reckon they'll be wanting to support this for a while now then if they've now got a new statue.
What do you think of the change?

Gold seems to be in fashion at GW HQ.
Wonder how long it’ll last.
Well GW will probably re-do their paint system again in a year or two…
…or charging a fortune for the new ones!
Until AoS tanks. Then the spezz mehrine will be back as the representative of GWs only remaining game.
Shall we call up Paddy Power or Ladbrokes?
Golddigga!
Funnily enough I really like it!
The Stormcast Eternal looks nice in all gold, I might imitate this for my figures..
Looks better than that out of proportion Space Marine!
Space Marine replaced by another Space Marine…
The Space Marine was looking a little dated, so I do like this, Although I do think the gold needs toning done a bit.
Needs a Devlan Mud wash.
I’m amazed things like this don’t get defaced by drunk people. Is GW HQ surrounded by a Wall of Martyrs to keep them at bay? I’ll admit I’ve never been.
Its just in an industrial estate far away from where drunkards would normally be stumbling around.
All the drunk people work inside.
It is not in an area roving with neds! It is an industrial estate…
So they replaced 40k Space Marine with Fantasy Space Marine. Not really change.
Must say that old one was rather out of proportion and reminded me of the old click together marines that you got in the two player starter box many years ago. You all know the ones I’m talking about, that all had the same pose.
This new statue seems brighter and lively. Even the new winged logo behind it looks more inviting. That old gray Aquila just made the place look aged and unwelcoming.
If this new release flops within a year or two, that’ll be an interesting statue to have…
I said “If”…
Ever the optimist I see.
meh, i do think the new sigmarines look like a fever dream of C3PO being cast in Gladiator.
Is this part of the re-branding from Games Workshop to Warhammer?
The (!) rumoured (!) re-branding. We’ve seen a few shop-signs change. Exact motivations, scales or future plans are unknown.
…to Hasbro!
How to sell a bad game and bad mini’s: put a big effing statue on the lawn lol. How embarrassing.
Sounds about right!
I think this a great sign that GW are really invested in the AOS and warhammer brand. Putting money where your mouth is. It’s great to see.
…you may say i’m a dreamer, but i’m not the only one…
As @Brennon and @hollowpointdude note, this does seem to be a very significant statement of intent from GW. Rebranding their HQ like this seems to suggest that they are very committed to Age of Sigmar. We will have to wait to see how that commitment manifests on the tabletop.
Just part of the hype… smoke and mirrors. How does this statue improve gameplay?
If the old WFB rules and mini’s crashed and burned, this AoS phoenix won’t be far behind.
It doesn’t do anything to improve game play in and of itself – it’s a statue, as you say. What it does do is indicate that GW takes AoS seriously enough to rebrand their HQ with a Stormcast Liberator and a winged hammer – they have made this new game a major part of the face that GW presents to the world, of their corporate image. That indicates that they have a lot of confidence that AoS will ultimately succeed, and are putting a lot of their capital (in both the literal and abstract meanings of the term) into ensuring… Read more »
Im cynical enough about the new rule format top think bi-annual expansion packs and a new universe wide crisis every 2 years, and regular white dwarf center fold expansions kinda like its the mid 90’s again ;), hell with a free mini on the cover it is like WD of old! Although im unimpressed with the new mini’s this is the first time i have been interested in fantasy since i sold my wood elves 17 years ago. If GW keep the free rules idea and just release compendium books and FAQ it hard, i may well pick up a… Read more »
…maybe Hasbro don’t like the imperial eagle/third reich look? It’s not very ‘family friendly’ is it?
How can they?!
Given how much that new gold spraycan costs, they have sunk some serious money into that statue. It would have been cheaper to gold plate it.
I like it. I agree with vetruviangeek and others that it shows that GW are all in (using a poker term). I get that some people don’t like the new mini’s or direction GW have taken Warhammer but I like a lot of others do like the mini’s (the rules I can’t say to much about other than the rules are not why I buy mini’s).
@zeker1966 not saying Age of Sigmar is going to fail but if it does it they won’t be the first ones to have a moment of madness go balls deep in something and regret it.
I do love those mime artists that dance and move about when you give them money
It’s sending a clear message AoS is not just a flash in the pan. It’s bumped 40K off the number one slot on the website, and replaced the aquila and space marine at HQ. Gives me more faith they will release more in depth and slightly less stupid) rules as time goes on. I just wish they’d bloody talk to their customers. Tell us what they were thinking when they designed this game, what they want it to play like, and where they want to take it in future. I’m sure thered be a lot less veteran players abandoning gw,… Read more »
Tbh if they wont communicate, why do they deserve my money .. theres something off putting being viewed as just a moneybag not worth talking to. I know they are a bussiness aimed at making money, but HOW that money is made is a different question. Im not calling anyone an idiot or belittling with this, its just my view of it. Since they seem intent on marketing this seriously with promos and free rules (living rules is acctually pretty cool), they should start talking to us like “by gamers for gamers” or those other efforts were just wasted, imo… Read more »
I lick it
They don’t like people licking the statues dude. You’ll be escorted off the premises by security at the very least.
@tachycardia I don’t know AoS might be a good product for people who like licking building related items 😛
I think they gave the space marine that job, statue bouncer
…what did it taste of?
Citadelishous gold
I actually think the stunty had had his day, but I do hope it has not gone to the skip. I am that old I remember many years before perry twins, ( if you didn’t know it was them as did the city walls in the hall) the last revamp I think. There was a tiny store downstairs that was once ran by a guy called Prince (that was his name) a massive character in the GW of those heady days. (I wonder what happened to the guy?). A really mad orc guy called George Dellapina (last name probably spelt… Read more »
Hi Chrisg, thanks for the kind words….
One of my colleagues linked the comment to me and I couldn’t help myself registering just to say “Hi” and “Thanks”.
I am glad that, somehow, after 15 years, I have left you with a good memory to share.
Hope you are still enjoying the hobby as much as you did back then.
Have fun
Prince
OK…. so who do I send my address to to get the old Space Marine delivered to my house?
Can somebody PLEASE make Alan Bligh the boss of GW?
